    I don't understand why took the knight not the rook. If taking the rook, you are up a queen for two minor pieces, you paralyze the bishop and remaining rook and also will probably triangulate to win the knight anyway. Never mind, engine agrees with the check and taking the rook so be it!

      @@christobobbo5575 They know the position is winning no matter what, so they get "greedy" and look for a mating net rather than just gobbling up material. Taking the rook takes the queen somewhat out of play and makes a quick checkmate less likely.

    Doesn't seem like he was tricked by the elephant gambit, seems like he was tricked by a tactic that as a 2200 player he should have spent more time to find.

    • @Aperson-kq7pt
      @Aperson-kq7pt Год назад

      I just checked with stockfish and yes there is Bxe3. Originally I thought the move after Nxc6 was Bf4+ but, which wins 3 minor pieces for the queen, and according to the engine white has to give the queen back for a rook and a bishop, but Bxd4+ is even stronger.

    Considering this quest to win with every single Gambit, I've just realized he will eventually have to get to the "Ross Gambit". (Which is 1.Nf3, e5)
    It's fundamentally bad but for some reason a LOT of people have been playing it against me on lichess recently. I'd love to see if Jonathan can eke out any thematic concepts that make sense.
    I don't know why so many people have been playing it. Either someone I don't know did a video about it or maybe someone has been using it against them with good success. I don't mind though. I win about 85-90% of the time when people play it against me. The only annoying part is I can't premove my second move anymore.

    • @rolettuce9654
      @rolettuce9654 Год назад +1

      Yeah, I had someone try that against me the other day. I wonder why it's suddenly become so popular?

    • @SumNutOnU2b
      @SumNutOnU2b Год назад +1

      @@rolettuce9654 right? I have no idea. Best I can think of... I did get a couple bad games when I was pre-moving 2.e3. Black could then play …e4 and white gets a space disadvantage. So I learned the hard way not to pre-move the second move, which is a slight issue in bullet, but other than that it's a terrible gambit. I wish the site had the tools to trace back and see who started playing it and how or why it got so popular.
