Well that’s good! Interesting though, my Wyandotte and easter Egger/Americaunas are the worst. My sex links - black and gold - were the best I’ve had, along with my barred rock.
real simple mama 🤔.. just starting to get a decent daylight here 🇬🇧.. sort of 6.30 am till around 6pm ish . The girls ( Marans ) started laying around 2 or 3 weeks ago regularly .. and laying probably 2 or 3 a week each , .. lovely eggs & shells , though had a couple of soft cracked ones 😏. Seemingly & not surprising , as coping with the erratic mixed weather .. 🙄sunshine 🌞, frosts , rain , and 50 mph + storm winds 😏. They’re looking great though , seem to relish the adventure & wind and njoy fluffing up , un phased , and look comfy 😀 🙂👍
hey! so another option for overhead protection is to strategically hang a couple tarps which would also make shade for the hot months. That way you could leave a path for you .
I'm so glad Gracey is ok. I have to admit when you first showed the new dog i was quite worried for the chickens. I know some breeds have really strong instincts that are hard to overcome. We had dogs come onto our property 2 years ago and kill roosters "playing" it was one of the worst days of my life. And we're always careful with family dogs. Our retriever grew up with them but doesnt get left alone, and my sisters jack russel has to wear a lead and muzzle when visiting cause her instincts are too strong. I hope things work out ok and that she can be trained to ignore them. Fingers crossed for you. Love the coop area all done the paviers make a good coop boundry :-)
Yes I like the pavers too! Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that we had to go that route. And as for Penny, I feel dumb that I didn’t even think about that. I think that I was so focused on just finding a dog who would be young and great for my children that I just assumed everybody would get along together. I don’t think she has a mind to kill, she’s just so interested. But in 48 hours she’s already better. I do feel that we need a stronger run fence anyway and it’ll give me peace of mind. Right now Penny is leash-only in the yard and I feel bad she can’t run and be silly. :(
@@realsimplemama hopefully penny proves to be very trainable :-) she does seem lovely. I think if she had kill instincts you would know by now, its the play instinct to catch and pounce and grab and shake that might be a problem. But she is hopefully young enough to be trainable. And at least she will test the strength of your boundy for weaknesses lol.
Is there a way to block off the ramp so they dont go down it when you dont want them too? My coop is very similar and the ramp is on hinges but there is no way for me to lock it up. I need to fabricate something for when I close it up at night and for the winter as I am in Maryland.
Honestly I know there are sliding automatic coop doors that would go left to right (or you can make one, my Aivituvin coop has a manual one). But why wouldn’t they go downstairs? I wouldn’t worry about a draft as warm air roses, and chickens do fine in snow and temps below freezing as long as they can stay dry and fluff up. But that’s just my opinion! ✌🏻❤️🐓
I really like the coop, but it looks like the stairs are a bit awkward for the girls. I would like to see when they figure it out, how they do it. Also, where did you get the square cement pieces under the coop and how much are they? I'd like to do that with my coop. Really nice video, thank you.
Hi! We got the pavers from Lowe’s, I think we got 20 for $30. So really cheap! Just measure first and make sure you level the ground as you go. And the girls are figuring it out, just some are not as bright as others. 🤪
Hi .. aww , I had the same worries for about a week or so with the ramp on my ark 😏.. The girls were or seemed to be struggling and seemed clumsy and no grip etc , as it seemed too steep , and 🤔, how they gonna squeeze through the hole to the upper roost 🤔🙄. But 😀🙄, after a week , hey they were up and down and doing pirouettes on the ramp 🤗😀. I sort of forgot they are birds 😏🙄. Think they just have a bit touchy feely for a few days .. to find it’s uses , probably poo on it 😀.. then yay ! . Up , down , having a dust bath under .. and hop up , and down and have peeks at the other girls on the nest box .. have a bit chit chat and that 😀🙂👍. But at first for a few days , I had to pick the ‘ birds ‘ up , and put them to bed 😏🙄. But now nothing better , than seeing the girls trot up to bed at evening 🤗. And trot back down in morning for their breakfast and check out the weather 🤗. ❤️my girls .. they’re brill 🙂👍
I do like your coop. Seems pretty spacious and I like that the house is pretty high off the ground, at least it appears to be
Thanks for the info on this coop. We just bought one and in the process of putting it together.
Oh yay! I’m still really happy with it overall and hope you got a good deal!

Put eye hooks and loops on each door. That way you can feed, water, and collect eggs without anyone getting slapped by a door, and so can the girls.

That’s a cute idea! I have a baby monitor too but it won’t work that far (and won’t work if I’m not home). Which one do you have? Does it have an app?

I will never blindly trust my dog with my chickens - we watch her whenever she’s outside and we upgraded the chicken run protection too just in case.

Good morning ladies!
Yay! Good morning! It’ll be a better morning once they figure out how to get down lolol
Since you put the stones down under the coop did you also put. Down chicken wire?
No we didn’t honestly. Nothing could lift up an entire coop and we also have rabbit wire, hardware cloth, bird netting, and a game camera.

Lol! That’s true. And predator wise it would certainly be better than nothing.
