what an inspiration you are....just make this....but instead of bananas...used home made sweet bean paste....then substituted water with coconut milk and palm sugar....and followed the rest of the tapioca recipe and steamed it....it was absolutely wonderful....Happy New Year
I'm eating this right now! Bought in a grocery in Orlando, FL that has a lot of snacks and pastries and to-go foods. I've been going there for years and still haven't tried everything. SO, I'm eating this cake, and I don't quite know what it is or how to eat it, and half way through I thought this seems like something that would be on Helen's channel. I guessed that it was made entirely of bananas, actually. We grow this kind of "cooking banana" here, and I'm pleased to see that this looks easy to make. Thanks again, Helen!
Hi Helen! Looking at your face in the video is like looking at a very beautiful flower. Listening to your voice is like listening to beautiful music. I can just sit and watch and listen to you all day long. Nothing in this world can be as beautiful as you and your voice. Thank you for sharing your sweet heart with us.
I just finished making it. I have a second one steaming at this very moment. Waiting for the first one to cool will be the hardest. I kept eating the cold batter due to lack of willpower 😄 I don't have a steamer currently so I used a colander and set it inside of a pot with some boiling water. I also have no round baking pans *face palms* .... so I molded some foil into a baking dish and filled my batter in it. Then I set that inside the colander and covered it with a lid the way you demonstrate in your video. The dessert came out lovey 😊 As a side note, I did order a silicone baking pan on-line last night but could not wait to try this. It just looks so yummy 😋 For the sauce I surprisingly did not have any coconut milk on hand. I had Cashew milk so I flavored it with coconut extract. Though the color is not white, the sauce will work just the same. Thank you for making this video and giving such clear instructions. I'm really excited to try more recipes from you 🤗

This is really delicious amd chewy! It goes great with the coconut sauce! Also, it's very easy to make! However, it is super sticky and it took me a while to get it off the plastic wrap and cut it.
Cám ơn chị. Em cũng rất thích món này. H koi mới biết làm á chị, mà nước dừa mình vắt lấy nước cốt r nấu lên hả chị Helen, nếu muốn nó sệt sệt tí thì đổ bột vô nấu chung luôn hay thế nào v chị??? :D
I love this cake! What else do you recommend I can use instead of yellow food colouring? I find turmeric changes the flavour too much. Would annatto seed oil work, or would that change the texture?
Hey Helen, great video as usual :) May I ask you to make video of Banh Chung? And maybe add a vegetarian version? I used to eat Banh Chung in my childhood but that was when my grandparents made them ^^ i tried to look up for some recipes, it seemed that it is hard to make, is that true? I hope i can eat Banh Chung sometime again ^^
Chao Helen! You are awesome!! I love your cooking and what type of steamer do you have & where did you get it? I've never steamed a cake and really want to make this.

Richelle, Turmeric IS a natural, plant based color. And the taste is easily masked. I used turmeric just two weeks ago in a butter cake I prepared from scratch. And I use it in rice to give it a nice, butter looking appeal. It's all about how you use it. A little goes a long way. And it's just as the other commenter said- it's the Chili, cumin, coriander, cloves, Garlic, onions, and cardamom that make up a curry (Indian food). Turmeric is just an added ingredient. And in this case it's used to help color the dish.

Hello! Thank you for this recipe, I can't wait to try it. But though is it possible to replace tapioca with some flour corn (also called Maïzena)?
Probably won't be so chewy. Tapioca flour is very common in Asian markets if you have one.
YUM!!! this looks so good!!!
Thanks Helen.

I wanna try it
Tumeric will make it taste like curry. Just use a natural plant base food coloring.
Richelle, Turmeric IS a natural, plant based color. And the taste is easily masked.

Pls help! I use the tapioca starch elephant brand and fresh bananas didnt add food color but after I steam it for 30 minutes it comes out not clear. Is it supposed to be clear?
how big is your cake? it's not supposed to be clear but quite translucent. If you see white color of starch, you might need to steam a little longer
