- Thanks for Linksquest NL for uploading the DVD footage ( • Gamecube Cafe E3 2005 ... ) and Foulowe59 for telling me that it had NSMB demo footage. And yeah, there are a few things I will need to update in the recreation to match this footage.
It's so weird to hear the desert theme without any "bah!"s
0:49 That Jump Animation Looks Amazing!
2:25 I kinda wish this was the normal overworld music for NSMB. It’s got a nicer energy than the overworld music we got in the final version
Honestly I like both themes. They could’ve been in the final build as 2 banger soundtracks.
it may not be the overworld music, but it ended up as variation 1 of the Mario vs Luigi theme, so that counts for something!
Is there any way to play this on a real ds or 3ds via homebrew???
@@Einfabio No
@@ensndkdndne-Eusjsnsns yep there is a recreation. Just played it
Bruh the fact that the underground levels move to your bottom screen is such an amazing mechanic
But that also happens on sub zones under the ground
I really liked how varied mario's jump animations were. I wonder if removing them has anything to do with hardware limitations or not.
almost certainly not. you can see that they got it working in this very footage and New Super Mario Bros. definitely has the RAM to spare for some extra animations
Most of those animations are still in the final game, they're just repurposed for when you chain jumps off of multiple enemies.
definetly not, before this they even had 3d koopa troopa's and goomba's, Mario's animation here is way more expressive like his hat going up when he jumps, and had different wall jump animations, jeez I mean I just dislike very much they got rid of that, when they couldve easily kept the animations in
They probably scrapped 3D Koopas/Goombas when they made higher-quality models for 'em (the early ones were re-used from SM64DS which were lower-poly and had low-res textures), and considering they're always loaded during the game, they could've occupied the VRAM space required for other enemies and the characters' other forms (shell, star etc.)
I think that is the same animation used for the mini mushroom jumps
Simply fascinated at the fact that Mario’s hat would come off as he’s falling. Should’ve kept it imo
Seems like it’s back in Mario wonder
@@HeyNaviIt actually is apparently, it honestly makes me so happy they finally repurposed it ;v;
nah I’m pretty sure that’s just screen ghosting
@@ensndkdndne-Eusjsnsnsnah. 1:50
@@ensndkdndne-EusjsnsnsNo it's actually true his hat really moves you can see his hair
This is some very clear footage, nice to be able to see a lot of this easily
Mario's animations look more fluid in this demo. Something the actual game could have used more of.
This is the demo of my favorite new Super Mario Brothers game ever
damn, this is interesting!
it feels very strange not to hear the bahs...
I liked how in the beta that Small Mario looked a lot more realistic. Small Mario is supposed to be normal Mario so the beta makes his bodily proportions more human like. The Small Mario we have now looks ugly to say the least.

2:29 That's the same jump animation when the toads to a triple jump in wii
Also 00:49 is almost the same in wii but the animation was flipped from the torso down in the x axis
@@smtonyanthony4227 yeah they seemed to have re-used a few unused animations in later games
I like that mario didn't freeze when he got power ups, some fangames do this
Yeah that and Mario's movement seems to give the game an interesting "loose" feel.
it's a shame that these animations didn't make the final cut
ok so theres an new map, full gameplay of the underground stage, and thats all new i could find
yeah, main thing is more levels parts shown, and the audio. but there's probably a few smaller things.
there's no new map, pretty sure the thing at the very start of the video is some advance wars or fire emblem thing
@@poudink5791yeah advance wars dual strike
1:34 could have been the best move in the game
i think i remember seeing this gameplay back in 08 or something
Yeah possibly. The title says "new", but really it means "new to obvious youtube searches/tcrf/me".
why would they change the yoshi island aesthetic???/ it looks so much better!
Do you think the audio channels are reversed on the clip? Obvious examples are the piranha plants shown on the right outputting in the left ear
that is weird... nice catch. its the same when i listen to the video straight from the DVD ISO.
it might be spoiler and maybe a coincidence but sometimes when mario jumps his hat comes off and that his similar to super mario bros wonder trailer in a scene i saw, this might be re used idea
Maybe, but Super Mario World was the first game to do this. In SMBW, the perspective the playable characters are shown in is also similar to SMW.
Jump sound is way better.
It's from Super Mario Bros. for the NES you know. 👍👍
no, in that one final sounds better
Since this is "a New Super Mario Bros Topic" I want the series to return because I've been waiting 11 to 8 years for the Series to Return and I want Nintendo to make the game more unrushed than Wonder because I hate when Fans complain about a Perfect 2D Mario Franchise
Also let Bowser, Classic Toad, and Pre-Odyssey Pauline be playable
i think we can all agree that the final version is better
2005年のトレーラーに比べたらだいぶ製品版に近づいてますね。ここで止めておけばよかったのにとずっと思っています。果たしてジャンプアニメーションも減らす必要あったのだろうか…・
Nice
0:00 beta world map
Ah, that's just footage of the Advance Wars DS demo, I'm afraid.
The section at 2:55 is another something different from the E3 trailer (which happens to be a slightly earlier build):
ruclips.net/video/WaOJEReEhIo/видео.html
Yeah, there's a couple of things like that which show its an earlier build.
Imo, the BG and FG here (desert, grass, and cave) looked way better than in the final... why would Nintendo gradually make it more generic? :/ Your thoughts? For all I know, it's probably because Nintendo wanted the Mario landscape to be similar to the other SMB series, but that theory is weak
Yeah I think generally they wanted the whole game to resemble the classic games more, rather than a kind of 2D/SM64 hybrid.
@@mariomadproductions My thought exactly! Though of course, some unique graphics would've always been better. At least NSMBU sorta went in the right direction as far as that's concerned, as although the themes are the same from the other NSMB series, the overall atmosphere is far from generic (i.e., instead of mushroom hills, you have acorn trees, instead of pyramids, you have moai & melted ice cream...)
@@Anas-gz4my Yeah Nintendo has seemingly gone in a less generic direction. Not sure if it feels quite right yet to me though.
@@mariomadproductions Yeah, exactly!
2024 Anyone
Glad they removed the 8 bit jump sounds. Takes away from the immersion.
What immersion? It sounds way better. Fuck the flimsly little whistle sound they've used since SMW, the 8 bit sound is way more powerful sounding, and even has variations for small and big mario (soulful detail).
@@blueyosh43 The whistle was what the jump sound was always intended to sound like. It only sounded the way it did in the 8 bit games because of sound limitations. Now that we're out of the 8 bit era, it would just sound unnatural.
@@mariobroultimate1808 "the whistle is what it was always supposed to sound like".
There's no reason to believe that's what they intended it to sound like. Not even mentioning they sound nothing alike, the 8bit version is way longer and also has variations for size. They could have made a similar sounding noise to the whistle in 8 bit if they wanted to but they didn't.
Also they use 8 bit sound effects anyway, the death music, fireball, item coming out of a block, probably more I don't remember.
They didn't use 8-bit sounds that much in earlier builds, E3 2004 being one whose the jump sound is re-used in the final (without the character's voice however) (and the fireball shooting sound there being a lot similar to the one from SMB1 SNES, plus the enemy killing sounds being re-used from SM64/SM64DS)

That jump sound is gross

@@user-onyxobsidian999 Doesn't sound the same to me. Not sure.
yea, I agree it was fine in the older games but whoever was playing was jumping constantly
