“Super-Fridge” is one of my most-loved and easy to implement sustainable habits (learned this from BJ Fogg’s book “Tiny Habits”). This task involves cutting up fruit and veg, and then storing them in clear ready-to-use containers in the highly visible area in the front of my fridge. This reduces food waste and encourages me and my partner to eat plant-based healthy snacks and meals. It’s super practical when our garden and green house are thriving 🌎🌿🥒🥕🥬Ⓜ️ary
And also save some money! I always budget myself for grocery everyday (I do daily grocery in small amount). The old me would always buy carrot judt because the recipe for that day calls for carrot without remembering I still have carrot leftovers in the fridge. Today, I would look at the fridge and cut up the budget in half because I only buy things that empty.
@@adizmarine YES… excellent point you have raised here!! We do save money (as well as preventing waste) using the “Super-Fridge” technique because we can see immediately what’s in the fridge and what needs to be replenished. Thanks for sharing your perspective on this and have a great day. PS - greetings to you from the wilderness of Northern 🇨🇦 where we grocery shop every 2 - 3 weeks. I was unfortunately born into a working class family which, with their somewhat narrow horizons, just didn't fit me as a person. I tried but in my teens headed off to travel started in Greece and working my way through southern Europe. Not having money has taught me to understand sustainability. I have lived through charity shops, upcycling and generally making the most of all material things I could find, hoard or buy. I find myself living in rural Shropshire in a tiny cottage I bought. I had to settle and put down roots. I'm looking to set aside a good part of my garden to growing food. Veganism has become an important and functional building block along with it's intrinsically kind and mindful view of our fellow creatures. I just couldn't go back to city living although I have experiences most British cities.
I've repaired my 9 year old watermelon leggings so many times. I don't care that printed leggings went out of style ages ago, they are my jam. That being said I think they will be going to legging valhalla this year. You will be missed my melony friend
My son collected last years left over school supplies to get ready for this years school list…he told me he didn’t need new things to be a good student. My heart!!❤️
It’s interesting how the “old me” used to consider habits as being “bad habits”… but the “new sustainable me” now associates habits with desirable actions… aka - “good habits”. I’d like to thank-you Immy (and also BJ Fogg) for this positive transition in mindset and lifestyle. It’s very empowering!! 🌎🌿Ⓜ️ary
That's a great point about habits, Mary! It's always good to have a positive outlook on everything we can in our lives. ♥ I watch so many youtubers and sometimes feel it's a bad habit, yet I have learned so much from people like Immy, Gittemary, and many more, so I will now think of it as a good habit. :)
@@jemma50 Hey Jemma, it’s nice to see you here in the comments again, and thanks for your positive feedback. YES… I agree 💯… we need to look for the positive spin on things in our lives. This video brought me so much peace. I was feeling particularly bogged down and overwhelmed today. Thank you for sharing, you've inspired me. One of the things I'm trying this year, to make it myself, is peppermint tea. I drink it all the time and have a peppermint plant so I thought why not give it a try.

In my hometown Graz (Austria) you get some money back if you repair an item professionally ✌🏻😁 // e.g. the phone screen of a friend of mine broke and she had to pay 100€ to get it fixed - the town gave her 50€ back 🥳🥳
That is an amazing concept!! It encourages people to repair their items, and it emphasizes the need to have skilled crafts-people and repair services available to the public. Kudos to Graz, Austria… be sure to spread the word far and wide!! This practice needs to be adopted globally. Have a great day, and thank-you for sharing this. 🌎👍Ⓜ️ary

My husband and I are just starting our journey into living more sustainably, we've started by changed our disposable baby wipes and nappies to reusable one's. I think we've likely not started in the easiest way but we're excited to start making change, especially given everything that's going on with the climate right now. Thank you for your videos, they've really inspired and motivated us and you have some really useful tips 👍
That's brilliant, good on you. In terms of eco impact and reducing waste, especially plastic, one child wearing reusable nappies actually has a greater effect than an entire neighbourhood shopping in a bulk / zero waste shop. You and your family are making a huge difference :)

It gives me so much inspiration to create, instead of enabling me to buy more stuff.
I’ve recently been hearing you, Shelbi, & other activists emphasizing the importance of corporate change over individual lifestyle changes. I think that is such a great point to emphasize since so many new activists seem to concentrate exclusively on personal change and trying to “convince” friends and loved ones to change their own lifestyles. I think those convos are great bc obviously supply & demand can influence change, but it’s really not worth squabbling about--especially with so many unique situations and perspectives to consider. Often, it can lead to pushing people away. I’d love to learn more about how we as individuals can help change the system, influencing greater change. Banking, voting, groups we can join, who to write to, what to say, etc. I know you’ve been touching on this in your videos, and it’s been very helpful !
This is literally so random but I was watching this while editing my own video and noticed I had the same song picked out for my video (the one you used in the beginning). I was like, why does this sound so familiar haha? This video was awesome! I've been trying to make things myself at home too like tortillas, hummus, and even just coffee and tea. It can be so much fun! Thanks for sharing :)
Not throwing things out is huge, I think. Not that I'm advocating hoarding or anything, but lots of things can still be used if they're not in perfect condition. (See, e.g., our entertainment center, which is structurally sound but has a big hole where something fell on it in the back - but you can't see it because it's behind the TV) And, especially if you live in a big city and try to buy things that are of at least reasonable quality, there are often local small businesses where you can get them fixed. You can get the broken zipper replaced in your favorite dress, or new soles on your favorite shoes, and it's almost as exciting as getting something new (at least to me). And usually a LOT cheaper!
I'm moving to Bristol, UK for 1 year and I couldn't be more excited to be able to be much more intentional with my lifestyle and home (since I currently live with people who don't particularly believe in climate change). Your videos are wonderful and inspiring!
I am not where i want tp be sustainable. I do however reuse glass jars for food/ leftover storage etc. I stopped buying plastic lunch boxes. Use wat u have or re- puprose jars or other containers. I try tp buy in bulk wen i can. Purchase second hand as much as possible/ or support local small business
I'm trying to shop my fridge & pantry before I do weekly shop. Most of the time I buy things without realizing I still have some. I'm trying si hard to avoid palm oil, as Indonesian, I realize how bad the industry is. The argument revolves around how the palm oil will be beneficial to the community in fact only higher-ups of the companies that get benefit from it. Leaving people who live in the area in poverty. Beside the damage that palm oil plantation done to the environment.
I was severely malnourished as a child so one of my biggest hurdles is undoing the fear of not having food. After leaving home I was overwhelmed by the availability of food and I kept "saving" it. I had to feed so many people so it didn't go to waste. What a nightmare. There was also the ingrained perception that only rich people could afford meat and fresh veg. That's a complicated mental cycle to break. For anyone out there who is food insecure, hang in there. Don't be embarrassed to access help or eat what is available to you.
Your skin is so glowy and lovely! Could you do an updated skincare and makeup routine please if you feel comfortable sharing it? I know you mention some products in other videos, but it’d be great to have a dedicated video to it as I find it hard to remember which videos have which information in sometimes.
Wow. I'm getting more into sustainable living. It's hard because I still live with my parents but it's so exciting to do more and more. You are teaching us to be more mindful about our purchases, etc. Loved the video. 🌻🤗

I'm happy you decided to just let your hair be curly like that! I think it looks great on you! I agree with a lot of the points you made. I started making bread at home a year ago (I think it's way better than bread from the shop and definitely healthier, with a lot of oatmeal and sunflower seeds) and recently started making liquor and jams as well. I rarely buy new wardrobe, this year I only bought couple of items once, I just don't see the need of it. I also accumulate glass jars (and wine bottles) so that I don't have to buy containers for the stuff I make.
The county I live in, and the surrounding counties, stopped recycling glass several years ago, I still choose glass over plastic, but the glass jar hoard is reaching critical mass now. I contacted an artist, he is willing to take all the glass, but I have to ship it, trying to figure out which is less damaging, 40lbs of glass in the landfill or shipped 1900 miles.
I love your videos and your energy. And this topic you just brought to the table got me thinking. I’m often so focused on what I new changes I need to make, that I don’t realise and celebrate all the things I’m doing already 🥰
YEASS… sing it Jette. My partner deliberated over his recent purchase of a wetsuit for two years. He’s only had it a few weeks and already he’s been out sailing, paddling, and taking a dip with our doggo. It was such a great purchase and I know it will most likely last him 20 years too. Great comment, thanks for this one 🌎💦🏊♀️Ⓜ️ary
I do wonder about the sustainability of making certain things myself. Eg I love baking bread, but I suspect making one bread in my oven uses a lot more energy than a bakery does per loaf. Also I can't buy flour in bulk, which I suspect pretty much makes up for the saved packaging of the finished bread.
Love all your content. I could not agree more about lifting each other up versus being competitive. Such an important message to spread. And haha about the sourdough. I make a no knead basic bread because sourdough takes more time and effort than I want to put towards bread making but man when they're good, they're good!!!
I found that many things I do that are sustainable, I also do because they are cheaper; like darning my socks, covering the elastics around some food you buy (like spring onions) in fabric from old stretchy shirts or completely broken socks, making pillowcases from miscellaneous fabric patches, propagating my house plats and swapping/selling them on ebay, making veggie stock from food scraps, collecting wild herbs and drying them to make herbal tea, etc. I do all of these because they are cheap, sustainable and fun. This way I can spend my money on organic food too. However I realised all this decluttering people are talking of doesn't work for me because I hold on to so many broken things to make other stuff from. Heck, I even keep my used toothbrushes to clean hard-to-get-to areas in the kitchen or bathroom. I always wonder how hardcore minimalist people sustain either their hobbies or their bank accounts.
Lot’s of wonderful points! Thanks again. Could you share more about the recycling of glass information you mentioned please? As far as changes I have made, well it has been a long time transition for me. LOL. But with now having a busier schedule I am having to rethink a lot of my DIY habits for lack of time, to keep myself on a sustainably active lifestyle that I prefer. But Composting has been constant. And using my own bags for shopping fairly consistent. I have become acutely aware with the pandemic and other life changes presents new challenges to navigate. And would love having gleanings from others that navigate around the variables life throws. I have tried to go with 2nd hand clothes, but during the pandemic was not allowed to try things on, which became a deterrent for me personally, I hate buying things that turn out to be a waste of money! Like you I love choosing good basic classic clothes made of natural fibers that work in multiple settings and interchangeable where possible. Which has helped my wardrobe stay simple to manage and interesting. I guess, that would count as a change in habits I made years ago 😉and have stayed consistent with.
I recently switched to the shampoo bar from Trader Joe’s …yeah Trader Joe’s and it’s really helped my frizz/waves so that I actually get some curls now! Such a good 2 for 1: better for the planet AND my hair lol.
I love your hair as well!! Buying things on a whim is something I’m working on!! I’m looking for a camera for nature photos; any recommendations? Anyone?
Perfect timing! I also recenlt realized that there are things that used to be ‘starting behavior’ but now is a no-brainer for me. Just like keeping all the glass jars and reusable package 😹 (writing this with loaded cupboard full of glass jars)
Good content and nice video. I like your chilled vibes. I think it is really important to stay somehow relaxed and not always overthink. You got yourself a new subscriber ;-)
Do you have a hair care video on your channel? I think we have similar hair types/curl patterns and I really struggle to get curls I like with low waste products so I'd love to know what you use xx
Could you link the video about recycling that you mention here? I'm not familiar with that youtuber and I couldn't parse the name as you said it. Thanks!
I have not bought ice cream since I started making my own. It just does not compare in flavour and I don't even need an ice-cream maker, just a freezer.
Your curls are beautiful! What are you talking about? BTW I wish if you could talk a bit slow , it would open the door who lives in the non -E English speaking country questioning circumstances of the world , so that it would be more understandable for non native English speaker.
I agree with you on the sustainability community front. However, not all of your friends are as accommodating. I won’t name names but a certain content creator went on the record trashing sustainability TikTokers and created a lot of offence in that community.
I need help with my need to buy clothes 😭 its one of the main things preventing me from being mostly sustainable and low waste....i have a clothing addiction....
That is wonderful you communicate with other like Gittemary. It is my dream, to know more people and have them around me and have a chance to talk about sustainability.
Me too. I would love to meet someone who is into sustainability as well. I myself try and live a low waste lifestyle, but it’s tricky having people around you that are either ignorant or just don’t care. People like you, shelbizleee and gittemary inspire me to live this lifestyle. Thank you
when i was young, i was thinking about the death penalty - Thatcher wanted to bring it back in, it was a big debate, but the vote failed in parliament - and i decided, it exists because the public demand it. Otherwise it couldn't exist. So since then, i believed the market demand creates the sale of things: buying lard is less bad for animals than buying cheese, because lard sales would not be profitable, but cheese is. So i shop like that, what demand am i creating

I contacted an artist, he is willing to take all the glass, but I have to ship it, trying to figure out which is less damaging, 40lbs of glass in the landfill or shipped 1900 miles.
Thank you for sharing your learnings with us. I love watching these chill sit down videos. Learning is super important, agreed! 👍🏻✌🏻
I love your videos and your energy. And this topic you just brought to the table got me thinking. I’m often so focused on what I new changes I need to make, that I don’t realise and celebrate all the things I’m doing already 🥰
I would definitely invest in a wetsuit! My husband's has lasted over twenty years (with proper care).
Great video 😊 I’d be really interested to learn more about the impact of making things like nut-butters/nut milks at home compared with buying them
"LEARNING IS GROWING"..Nice message🥰🥰🥰 very informative content..
Love all your content. I could not agree more about lifting each other up versus being competitive. Such an important message to spread. And haha about the sourdough. I make a no knead basic bread because sourdough takes more time and effort than I want to put towards bread making but man when they're good, they're good!!!
Great information that is easy to implement...and your curls look great!
I’d love to see a video of the recipes you use for bread. I’m ok at making loaves but would love a reliable flatbread and tortilla recipe.
Cheers to building more sustainable habits! 🎉
Thanks Immy for the video. I like your curls. We all need to embrace ourselves just the way we are❤
Hi Immy, do you have a recipe for peanut butter please? I make my oat mylk to your recipe so I know it will taste nice! Thanks. x
I recently switched to the shampoo bar from Trader Joe’s …yeah Trader Joe’s and it’s really helped my frizz/waves so that I actually get some curls now! Such a good 2 for 1: better for the planet AND my hair lol.
Absolutely enjoy your channel and Gittymary. Beautiful Ladies.
I love your voice so much! Will you consider doing a podcast?
Great content in this video, Immy, as always. :) ♥ Thank you for sharing.
Can someone give me the link for the separate video on recycling glass? Thanks!
My biggest habit developed by living a sustainable life is trying my very best to never waste anything. Especially food.
Good content and nice video. I like your chilled vibes. I think it is really important to stay somehow relaxed and not always overthink. You got yourself a new subscriber ;-)
Yes! Thank you!
me, watching the Buying on a Whim section: I really want that mug
Very helpful vlog 😊
I love the "Will I wear this when I'm 40" mindset, but Im just so messy and stain and rip everything😅
Thanks!
At min 5:58 what video you recommend?
Wow!
May I ask how tall is tall? I am 5 feet.
Do you make tofu and seitan? Its almost always wrapped in plastic 😩
I didn’t understand who she says has the recycling series. I would love to learn more, so if anyone can share her channel, that would be great!!
Gittemary Johansen
I love your hair❤
I agree with you on the sustainability community front. However, not all of your friends are as accommodating. I won’t name names but a certain content creator went on the record trashing sustainability TikTokers and created a lot of offence in that community.
Immy who was it you said that does deep dives into materials and recycling? I didn't catch it...
It's Gittemarie! Sorry forgot to link her channel
Gittemary Johansen :)
@@SustainablyVegan thanks! i'll look her up
I had no idea you were tall! As a 5'9'' girly I now love you even more :)
I need help with my need to buy clothes 😭 its one of the main things preventing me from being mostly sustainable and low waste....i have a clothing addiction....
So inspiring 🥰
That is wonderful you communicate with other like Gittemary. It is my dream, to know more people and have them around me and have a chance to talk about sustainability.
Me too. I would love to meet someone who is into sustainability as well. I myself try and live a low waste lifestyle, but it’s tricky having people around you that are either ignorant or just don’t care. People like you, shelbizleee and gittemary inspire me to live this lifestyle. Thank you
@@votablejaguar9 Exactly
when i was young, i was thinking about the death penalty - Thatcher wanted to bring it back in, it was a big debate, but the vote failed in parliament - and i decided, it exists because the public demand it. Otherwise it couldn't exist. So since then, i believed the market demand creates the sale of things: buying lard is less bad for animals than buying cheese, because lard sales would not be profitable, but cheese is. So i shop like that, what demand am i creating
Hey Immy, I always appreciate your insight on what has (or has not) worked for you. I consider you to be the voice of intelligence and experience (and fun!!). Looking forward to the Premiere and the Live Chat… WHooP! WHoop!! 🌎🌿💦Ⓜ️ary
Would you need a wet suit still if you're moving to the US eventually? I guess for other bodies of water and diving or scuba. Just food for thought.
How tall are you?
5"8
@@SustainablyVegan I never thought as my self as tall😂 I am 5’8 too but I am around people who are 5’8 plus
We are tall queens 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Who is this other person you reference? :) Would love to know the proper spelling of her name.
You look so beautiful and radiant
haha, work in outdoors store, there's one time to buy a wetsuit: in the sales
❤️🙌❤️
I like the big curls on you!😘
