Oh fun! I still have my old copy of Fifteen!
Im am trying to take part in this readathon too. Love these ladies and all they share. I picked a few from my shelf and have already read two! Love me somw retro books. Like finding gems in amongst all the flash of new publishing books (which can be good too) omgoodness Beverly Clarey. I love them i have bought so many for my children lol. Great choices. Thanks for sharing. Much love from Nova Scotia
I had no idea she published book back in the 1950s thats so cool. You have so many fabulous books
Betty Neels was another author that I read tons of when I was young because my mom had sooooo many. I did not know about this readathon lol but now I do so I’m going to have to read at least one lol.
Love those two category romances, all your choices look so fun! Thanks for participating!
I am also reading a Betty Neels book titled Cassandra by Chance 😁 She is one of the authors for Category Romance Online Book Club ❤️
I hope you enjoy these oldies but goodies 😊
I’m sure in England they would love your “fringe” (bangs) 😁😁😁
Retro Romance is a genre that is near and dear to my heart. The covers are so sweet, and I love to collect them. I would love to buddy read The Luckiest Girl with you! I've had bangs ever since I was little. My sweet grandma always cut my fringe bangs as they were her favorite. Therefore, at 49 I still style my hair with bangs. 💕💕💕
I read Henrietta's Own Castle back when it was originally published because I was a tween back then and was a member of the Harlequin book club which sent out 6 or 8 books to members each month. (Can't remember how many exactly.) I still have a box of my favorites stored away in my office.
More vintage romance to love, Georgette Heyer, Susan Scarlett (except for one or two), and Elizabeth Cadell. 😊
I was born in 1971, and oh the memories you brought back with the Beverly Cleary books--I need to find copies to reread!
And I'm 53 and have had my bangs since I was 11! God bless from Lisa.
😂twinsies!! Our moms probably dressed alike, too! 😂
🤣 I wouldn't be surprised!
Those vintage Beverly Cleary books are so cute💕. I found some of those vintage Harlequins at my local thrift store, they are so fun! I have read a few and enjoyed them, so looking forward to reading one for retro romance and then maybe a D.E. Stevenson :)
oh yes, always in the mood for Sevenson!
You will LOVE the Beverly Cleary books. The Luckiest Girl was published the year I was born (yes, I'm old! LOL), so I've always kind of loved that one of hers the most. But Jean and Johnny is just adorable. Cleary also wrote one called Sister of the Bride, which is set a few years later in the 60s. It's slightly different, but just as good as the others. I don't mind saying that I cried some ugly tears when Beverly Cleary died; I think in my heart of hearts I thought she'd live forever. Well...in a way, she will! 💖
Yes, I read these Beverly Cleary books when I was in middle school- can't wait to revisit.
Sounds like you definitely have a plan. I plan on reading a Betty Neels book. Oh my, born in 1972. Wow, I was just 5 years out of high school lol😊😮❤
I've got my Betty Neels book all ready for the #retroromancereadathon!
I think I might try one of the vintage Grace Livingston Hill books that I own now! I’m excited for this readathon, it’s a favorite of mine every year.
oh my goodness, have you read Song of Years by Bess Streeter Aldrich? I thought of you when I read it! I haven't even mentioned it on my channel because I just finished it last night- so good
I own those hardcover copies of The Luckiest Girl and Jean and Johnny. I love those covers and I have both facing outward on my shelves. The last two pages of The Luckiest Girl always get me teary-eyed because of the sentimental lines. It's time for a reread of both books--thanks for the reminder, Mitzi!
oh, yes! Grab them and join the readathon!
I own those same hardcovers as well, and Fifteen, too. Library sale acquisitions from years ago! And oh, my goodness, the last few pages of The Luckiest Girl! I'm always in tears by the end!
The Spinster Brides of Cactus Corner 2007
This readathon is so much fun!
so excited for it!
I love retro romance year round😂
I am going to be reading some Mary Burchell books!❤
I have a couple of her books, too! They were with those old harlequin paperbacks I found at the library sale!
I read a lot of romance but I prefer contemporary romance. I am a lover of romance books.
I read all those B Cleary books in the early 60s and hoped my teen years would be like that. Ahhh, youth...!
Maybe you are familiar with this book - Seventeenth Summer by Maureen Daly, written in the 1940s. I read it as a teenager and twice as an adult. Teen angst at its best! I think you would enjoy it.
I don't know that one!! Yay! I love discovering those old ones- I'll look for it- thanks!
Oh, Seventeenth Summer! I remember that. That is what I am going to read! It will be a real nostalgic experience!
Yes! Seventeenth Summer! I think that's just about my all time favourite teen novel; I own three copies of it in various editions. LOL! Maureen Daly was still in college, I think, when she wrote it. It's just superb.
@Melanie220 That's interesting! Quite profound for someone so young. The same with the author S E Hinton when she wrote The Outsiders at age 16.
I'm also born in '72. I love a traditional historical romance. I should think there's something suitable on my ereader.
Hope you can find something great to read for February!!
