If you don’t have fingernails, you will develop calluses on your finger tips that will produce a more pronounced tone. I prefer to grow my nails, but this is another way you could approach Fingerpicking :)
It doesn’t really matter you can hold a gu pic just like you can a flat pic and use the same technique I’ve been doing this for many many years I’d rather use my fingers and alternate them because it’s more faster rather than alternating a pic then then I still have my thumb to play guitar well so that’s highbred highbred I’m a highbred Fingerstyle guitar player myself and you say thumb pick and hold it like a flat pack so in reality there is no difference
Mark Brown, are you saying you hybrid pick by holding a thumb pick, like you would a plectrum with your index finger, and then use the other fingers to pluck strings? So then you can alternate between fingerpicking and hybrid picking?
Tablature for examples presented in this lesson can be found here: acousticguitarlessonsonline.net/hybrid-picking-guitar
I do not have fingernails... quite hard to match the volume of the pick..

@@acousticguitarlessons thanks for the response. I've not had an issue with volume using only fingers.
Guess I can not anker my pinky anymore??
@jasper_north, no, you should still be able to use the pinky for support with hybrid picking :)
