The word “leading” comes from the days when printed materials were created with hot metal presses and lead blocks (the metal lead like in bullets).Varying thicknesses were used to create space between lines of text. Off-topic question, is it possible to make a 3-point (non-triangle) vector line, like the shape of the letter "L"? I've been trying the pen tool/line tool but they don't seem to work. I know with the brush tool, you can left click, then shift click for connectable straight lines...but that's all I got.
OK but please tell me how do you just Kern one letter. I've tried all the ways you explained in this video, and it moves the entire letter line is there a way to do it like (option left right) in illustrator?
What if your font, perfect otherwise, needs the letters themselves to be stretched a bit? Is there a way to actually stretch the letters? not talking about rasterizing and stretching in a straight line since the text is written on a curved path. Thanks.
Just need to correct one minor issue. "Leading" is pronounced "Ledding" and is a legacy term from when lines were spaced on the print blocks by lead (the metal) spacers.
You cannot edit text settings when its a PNG/JPEG or whatever file besides a PSD or TIFF with the original type layers. Once a text layer is exported, you lose all ability to adjust the features of that text if you don’t have the original type layer.
You give excellent advice, however you make one cringeworthy spoken error: it’s not “leading” as in to lead someone, it’s pronounced with a short-e: LEH’-ding As in the element Lead, like pencil lead. This goes back to when type was cast in lead slugs and for the space between lines of text, they added blank slugs made of lead. Thank you

Leading is pronounced as if Plumbers Lead... Leading, Printers used to add a lead strip to separate the text. Cheers.
