Unsurprisingly, the time constraints EA put on the development of this game prevented McGee's studio from adding boss battles, among other things. At least the studio managed to finish the whole game, which is amazing given how EA was involved.
yeah, when i played it through it was very underwhelming to be shut down from all boss fights. At the time I thought I was doing something wrong, or maybe boss fights were reserved for greater difficulty settings. I guess at least we got a final boss fight.
The mecha boss battle was planned to be a thing, but EA rushed the developers and they had to scrap it. A LOT of content was scrapped because of this: weapons, enemies, bosses, areas, there used to be gameplay in London but it had to be scrapped too. I sometimes wonder what this game could of have been if it was fully finished.
The original Alice is 20 years old now, and this dropped a year after the Tim Burton movie. The big Alice adaptation at the time was the NBC TV movie in 1999 with Martin Short as the Mad Hatter and Whoopi Goldberg as The Cheshire Cat.
American mcgee said the EA rushed the game so one of the first thing to go was the boss fights. Sucks because they all have a set up, only to be swatted away. There is a "final" boss though, its ok.
There’s a new dress every level. And yes, the DLC dresses are pretty insane. They also have different bonuses associated with them. It’s the one time I actually bought cosmetic DLC because I really did enjoy the game and needed an excuse to play through it again.
Australian here, I've survived 37 years on this great southern land, lost many many a friend to drop bears and great white sharks. Many others fell to the insanity caused by the Yahoo Serious movies and we lost many more to Crocodile Dundee in LA. At my age, ive already passed the average lifespan of an average Australian. Every day is a blessing.
Taking a dive into the art book is /such/ a huge bummer. There was so much of the game that they had designed and actual boss battles planned and then it all got scrapped because EA. It's ripe for a Wha Happun?
It's always so weird to me when people talk about how dangerous australia is, like, we've got a few dangerous spiders and snakes but they don't really kill many people most of the actual dangerous stuff lives in the ocean, so you only really run into it if you have too much hubris and enter into the realm of poseidon. And like, you guys have moose! Moose are terrifying.
In regards to the Australian Flora and Fauna (the dangerous stuff), I live up in the mountains and the most I have to deal with are snakes, spiders and some miscellaneous insects and birds. Generally everyone knows what the "Seriously don't fuck with THAT thing" pretty early in their lives. Every now and then you come across something deadly and you take the situation a little more seriously. However having 000 ready to dial for some free* antidote is a smart idea 😅
Thank you so much for continuing this one! It really was one of the most underrated games of its generation, as was its predecessor. Well worth a full playthrough.
I'd love to see another instalment in the series. I absolutely love the twisted take on Alice in Wonderland. It makes for such an awesome setting and opens up so many possibilities.
I love that you admit your mistake with the jump hahaha. I'm like that as well though, I learn what I NEED to and sometimes overlook important stuff :) I always meant to check this game out and simply never got round to it. Thanks for reminding me it even exists. As an Australian can confirm you just don't go outside. It's safer indoors and letting RUclips raise you Buahahaha (jokes, it's fine and you just avoid tall grass out in the country)
Wow I'm shocked to see someone playing this game. I fell in love with the original game as a kid I really wish this game did better so we could've gotten the third they wanted to make
As an Australian, I feel that it is more dangerous to live in America where there are big predators and rattle snakes and other things like that. The dangerous Australia thing is just to keep tourist numbers at a manageable level.
Matt McMuscles It’s a good ol’ mix of misunderstanding, media sensationalism, and just a touch of national pride. Cows kill over twenty people annually while the number of confirmed deaths via spider bite in Australia since 1980 has been zero. Even the funnelweb has only recorded thirteen deaths ever. Most cases aren’t even serious enough to warrant the use of antivenom. www.burkemuseum.org/static/spidermyth/myths/downunder.html
@@MattMcMuscles Who wouldn't want to keep such a safe and beautiful country to themselves? In 30 odd years I have never seen a live snake in Australia and most spiders are easily avoided if you pay attention. I would caution against things in the ocean though, like the blue ringed octopus, sharks, and the box jellyfish.
@@MattMcMuscles Yeah as a well educated aussie youtuber I've watched once said "how do aussies live in australia? don't fsck with the animals". Leave them alone and they generally won't do anything. A lot of the more dangerous animals here are defensive and territorial not actual predatory types so as long as you give them the space you are perfectly fine!
I really love this game. I remember feeling frustrated with school and playing this to release my anger. This game is really special to me. It helped me a lot at that time
Shame the game isn't on the Steam shop anymore but I have it there. It's in my library, so they pulled it at some point. Looked at the community page on Steam and folks are miffed EA won't return it. Apparently it's on Origin, but not with the HD version of American Mcgee's Alice. People are theorizing it may return but the Complete Edition had never been on Steam.
We need a COMPLETE remake of this game, so the original developers can add all the ideas they wanted, like bosses and other stuff, that didn't made through thanks to EA. Well, I'm saying this hoping the developers still have the means of remaking it and aren't in anyway related to EA anymore.
I really love this game (and the first one), even with the EA intromission this is one of my favorite games, and yes managed to get the DLC because those outfits are cool.
I ended up buying this game thanks to the first video in this series. Just beat it tonight. Thanks for reminding me that it existed, this is thus far the best game I've beatin 2020. Last time I plated this was in '11 when I rented it from Blockbuster. Oh, and it got pulled from Steam by EA so they could sell it on Origin. So yeah, thanks.
I love this game so much! American Mcgee is trying to get a third out independently and I really hope he does. Both of the first two games are flawed but they are gems still and if American could fully created his vision I think it would be amazing.
This is one of my very favorite games of all time. It has flaws, yes, but I don't care. It didn't even review all that well, and I still don't care. It will remain in my collection forever.
Yes you get a unqiue dress per stage.... the best part is once you do a New Game+ you can start interchanging the dresses AND they will have a different effect each. Some actually make the game more difficult (ie. Queen of Hearts dress permanently puts you at max 4 life) and some like the DLC dresses are broken (the Flesh dress gives Infinite Hysteria use)
Yep. the boss battle was cancelled because EA rushed Spicy Horse which is one of the biggest flaws of this game. It's also the reason why the real world segments have huge plot holes in them and are disjointed. You have to do more of this game(you are coming up on a new wonderland area and a new dress).
i know how the jumps are like, I have the game for my PS3 and let me tell i had countless of times where i wanted to rage quit because i couldn't get passed the puzzle i was one, But why i made it and beat the game, the ending was so good you'll love it
I have fond memories of playing this game back when nvida 3D Vison was a thing. The game looked really cool in 3D, sorta like watching a Pixar movie on 3D Bluray.
If I remember this game got on disk dlc, or in data dlc (for the outfits and weapons only). and if you own the pc version it's easy to unlock everything as you just have to edit a text file. so yeah EA was lazy or the devs was in a rush, or both... even then people will find the dlc data in the game and say that's BS. but in this case it's a easy win for everyone for the pc ports.
I would highly suggest every check out American McGee's YT channel and Twitch, as he goes live every few weeks with information on the third game, Alice: Asylum and his new OZ game.
>~< stopped right before ya get something new! Nooooo! Ya need to do more! Youre about to reach the 2nd of essentially 5 worlds, and the later 3 in my opinion, are the best ones. The last 2 are my personal favorite, plus the story actually starts to unfold a bit more!
yeah sadly the game was super rushed so they have to get rid of a lot of stuff, theres a artbook that has all the missing content and its really enjoyable
Glad you're playing this. I wanted to JUST LAST MONTH but the CD won't verify that it's not pirated because the website is kaplooey now, I guess! :C Very sad I can't play a game I own physically. Absolutely stupid. Anybody know how to figure it out? Anyway, can't wait for the next edition, I'm pretty sure American McGee is making another one pretty soon
The upgrades definitely make a difference... The Vorpal Blade and Knight Hammer gets a buff in Dmg (hammer also gets a slight boost on AoE IIRC) and you can see this with how many swipes it takes to kill the earlier mobs once you've upgraded. The Pepper Mill and Tea Kettle don't get a Dmg buff per se but increases the amount of shots you can do b4 they overheat.
I wanted to love this game so much...but it's just not very good. Puzzles so bad the game will let you skip, bad slide sections, a lack of cohesion with its art design. It feels like they tossed everything at the wall and hoped people wouldn't notice the mess.
Exactly, EA just gutted this game halfway in development. EA just doing what it always does.
I hate ea. Why do they do this. What makes them think this is a smart idea.
And if it wasn’t under the grasp of EA
@@X_Blake AMR, Sims 4, how many other game have to be gutted like that by EA ?
The original Alice is 20 years old now, and this dropped a year after the Tim Burton movie. The big Alice adaptation at the time was the NBC TV movie in 1999 with Martin Short as the Mad Hatter and Whoopi Goldberg as The Cheshire Cat.
I do love how American McGee is actually his name, and he's openly said its cos his parents were hippies.
i think he has a normal middle name though
American mcgee said the EA rushed the game so one of the first thing to go was the boss fights. Sucks because they all have a set up, only to be swatted away. There is a "final" boss though, its ok.
The mech boss fight falling to pieces could have worked as a joke where they're parodying a stereotypical boss fight only to pull out the rug.
@@Hellsinger89 Ha. Yeah i could see that

Ever since i was an edgy teen, I wanted to dress up as alice but was too lazy. Kinda thinking of finally doing it this Halloween???
Please do a What Happened to American McGee's OZ.
I don't think that has enough information to qualify as it was a failed kick-starter and never got past the art design stage
He's actually restarting work on it.
Years later and there still on 3rd sequel yet. And yes I do Infact 2 copies of the Artwork Book It was based on along with both the games! :D
