0:02 The tragedy is that these solar reflector dishes are arguably Ganymede's most precious instillation. Ganymede already gets precious little sunlight just from how far away it is from the Sun and without these reflectors dishes Ganymede effectively loses all ability to grow food. They are literally the lifeline of the entire colony. And here they get destroyed as a result of a pointless skirmish. Not even a target, just a causality of crossfire and trigger happiness
we see it a lot in the show. The reason you could also here the Earther guy talking when he walked away was because they were on Ganymede’s rocky surface, it can also conduct vibrations.
I don't think it becomes clear until she's already given the orders and with comms out it might be difficult to do anything about it. If any of the marines have concerns its too late to tell anyone.
They are trying to portray the martian marines as so heavily indoctrinated they refuse to see anything other than an attack. It makes it more stunning when Bobbi defects.
To be fair they just witnessing their own fleet and the UN fleet battling it out right above their heads. So it is quite natural to assume the UN is also attacking on the ground.
Strictly speaking it was suspect when she recall the event but in the moment of action, it wasn't a 'scenario' that ever cross their minds, because they have an assume 'scenario' they focus on too heavily. It's not even indoctrination so much as you see what you expect to see. Someone once told me (in a 2nd amendment argument) how he would deal with 'intruders'. The problem is that it involve shooting stranger in the leg if he found them in his garage, where the target might not be an intruder at all. I had to ask him have he ever thought of not firing first and ask some question since he already have the shotgun trained on his target. It's the same problem... they already have their preconceive scenario so fix in their mind that no other option ever comes up.
I just realized that it was Travis who asked who fired first. It’s because he was born on Earth but raised on Mars, so his loyalty was always questioned, even by members of his own squad. He’s panicking because if Earth fired first, then he’d have to worry about the bullying getting worse. But sadly he never had to actually worry about those fears.
There were a LOT of UN ships there. The first scene had 4 MCRN ships running away. The Sirocco was an Assault Cruiser and she got riddled by PDCs in minutes.
I am a bit sad that we did not get the full scene of this part. Would be amazing if we got the same battle from the books. Though budget constraint most likely made it hard to do so.
Awesome battle. But to he honest she could clearly she they were engaging something, and she didn't bat and eye. Not saying her course of action was incorrect, but she seemed quite oblivious.
It’s worth remembering that while highly trained, Bobbie and her squad were still green troops who had never been in actual combat before. Combine that fact with the fact that tensions between the UN and the MCRN were very high at the time and it’s pretty easy to see how inexperienced soldiers can panic and start shooting before they start thinking (especially when, at first glance, they see weapons fire and the UN marines seemingly advancing on their position)
Martian propaganda worked on her all she saw was enemy troops or blue icons charging her screen cause that’s all she wanted to see and what she chose to see.
Loved the show like hell but wish we got to see the books version, mech and all with a line of Martian marines fighting with the UN marines that were left.
Bobbie's ship accelerated towards the surface to cut through the jamming and gain a signal, the UNN ships in the vicinity saw this as an attack course and started firing, then shit went south from there.
In the books the battle between the Hybrid and the Marines happened first, resulting in the ships in orbit opening fire as they believed that one side had engaged in hostilities on the ground.
I could never take her seriously when they called her "Gunny." She's way too young to have that kind of rank as enlisted. Unless the Martians promote fast or something.
She was top of her class by a country mile, got one of the coveted slots to train with the Goliath power armor, and had been serving for 12 years by the time of the Ganymede incident

Are we not going to talk about how Bobbie used the connection of the helmets to talk via vibration?
It's a thing all astronauts are taught in training in case their radios break.
No oft mentions this detail but it’s sick as hell

This show has a lot of depth. Lots of details are into it
They had already done it a couple of times by this point so I think ppl take it for granted.
Can clearly see the UN marines are running from and shooting at something chasing them.
"They're charging us."

@Karm G in the show it was unclear wtf happened

1:01-1:09 These two ships shot everything around them except each other.
The Scirocco and that gunboat were multi-tasking targets. Every ship in orbit was firing at more than one target.
Probably some sort of jammer or ECM system since they are in so close.

I love that the UN PDCs sound different than the martian ones we're familiar with hearing on the roci.
Too bad we didn't get to see the marsian battle mech deployed :P
I was really hoping we'd see the mech too....
I wouldn’t have been prepared too see a full martian garrison die on TV though so better this way.
WE ARE ENGAGING IN ORBIT
Terra Nova, I miss that game. The best depiction of power armor combat ever.

Jacob Baumgardner and the other is the space fungus was physically larger and slower than the marines
I didn’t notice it when I saw it for the first time
Yeah but under adrenalin you realise something like That Later and the Chaos of the Sudden combat is a Huge problem too

This video is cut short. It doesn't show Bobby Draper Superior officer getting killed.
Hi, this was posted on my other account.
I purposely left out those scenes for fear of spoilers and copyright for overextending the footage.
"Who fired?"
"... yes."
Damn i love the Music in this scene
I wish I knew the name of the song for this action sequence they played it again I believe two episodes after this one
I'm pretty sure it's "Heat Her Up"; it was played during the Rocinante's assault on Thoth Station: ruclips.net/video/V44uJKyS5LM/видео.html

YES! Those drums are epic.

Avasarala's son died at the Vesta Blockade
In the books, he died in a skiing accident
@@haffls
And as a result she often had nightmare of her husband, Arjun, dying unexpectedly. Not sure if that was intentional foreshadowing or not.
so the UN best troopers were pretty much starship troopers with barely any armor?
So who and why started the shooting on orbit?
Bobbie's ship accelerated towards the surface to cut through the jamming and gain a signal, the UNN ships in the vicinity saw this as an attack course and started firing, then shit went south from there.

In the show it's kinda clear that the UN fired first in the confusion. You see a Leonidas class open fire and then everyone else does afterwards
@@will2brown50 They aren't leonidas-class ships, its some kind of UNN cruiser or destroyer.
I thought it was one of the secret ships, the same ones that attacked the donager
shame about the sounds of breaking glass in space. only unrealistic issue here.

@alexalbrecht5768 I think his point is the actress was 23, so if she had been serving for 12 years by this point she started at 11 ...
@@DoddyIshamelmaybe they do an Enders Game thing on Mars 😅
