Excellent video. Thank you for showing the ENTIRE process from collecting the vines to finishing. Thanks for taking the time to create this video! Much appreciated
Here to use vines from Roger's Red native hybrid, a wild type hybridized from wine grapes. Small red grape, tiny seeds, makes the best jelly I've tasted. Thanks so much for the instruction, I'm going to try this!
That's really neat, MR. Nice basket! It's a great skill to have in a SHTF situation. Thanks for the demo. Now, I just have to find me some grapevines. :-D
I have only known reeds and willow used here in the UK as weaving material, but when you think about it, using vines makes real sense. I have 3 grape vines, a bit young yet, but in time they will need pruning in order to control their advance along the perimeter fences. I would certainly cut those prunings to suit having seen this. I would try and make a support obelisk as well for some of my fruit plants - I've got to get competent first though! Thanks for a great idea! That basket looked great. Take care, Vox.
Baskets and real brooms were sold to people with money in the old days. Looks good. I guess soaked split ash will be the next video. We won't be getting Easter baskets from China next year. Might want to save this years to put eggs in when you walk to the market.

That is a useful skill to know. Thank you MR. So many people overlook a lot of natural materials.
HootOwl Holler yes very true, not everything has to come from a store.

Sunny Belisle thanks for watching.
If you give each segment a twist until it “pops” the vine acts more like rope while still green, makes it easy to work with.
Would love to know what this take means (demo)

Vox in Tenebris thanks!
A woven obelisk would be lovely in a garden.
What a good video tutorial! It is exactly what I needed to know. Function vs. Cute!
Nice! Thank you for sharing this! Shalom and Blessings!
Paula Jo Davis thanks for watching, and blessings to you!

My great grandma planted grapes in my yard, which still grow today. I want to make a basket, a wreath, and some jelly😊

You are a jack of all trades!
That's nice that you showed us what you did, but you didn't show us how you did it????
I will have to do another video on this. I need a smaller basket for something anyhow, and this is a good time of year to start to collect grapevines.
A basket is a great idea,I remember my girls making wreaths out of grape vines in 4 H.
I can definitely do this with the amount of grape vines i got here. They are literally everywhere
Great job :-)
Mary Gallagher thank you!
Well done brother
Stay strong
Jehohadek Maccabeus-Off Grid and Everyday Survival take care my friend.

Terry & Nora Turner making a broom would make a good video.
@@ModernRefugee Built a broom press and making a winder to wire on the broom straw. Good useful video. More useful than most realize.
My bf makes baskets from reeds. Do the vines shrink as they dry/ age and pull apart? Wonderful skill. Thank you for the video.
Cecil BeMee in my experience they just harden down and take the shape permanently.
@@ModernRefugee Awesome, thanks. Neighbors have some I may ask for them.
When is the best time of year to harvest the vines themselves?
Emily Pickering before the leaves come out in the spring.
Ontario?
Michigan
Cool.!
Although would have preferred to see you ACTUALLY MAKING it than stop, explain, stop, explain, etc.
Still love you though !
Sun Set sorry about that, this video was difficult with my camera.
