I think that we forget that these words still apply to us as adults. Sometimes being a parent and dealing with your parents can be even more 'testing' than being a teen. May Allah give us the guidance to be good parents and good children.

Our parents are always looking out for us, but sometimes their ideas of what's good for us may not always be in adherence with Islam. In my humble opinion, I believe in that case, it's important to open a discussion with our parents, provide evidence for our beliefs and see if they'll come around. If not, then my suggestion would be to work around them. Do what you have to for the sake of Allah, but still be kind to them. Don't flaunt what you're doing in their face and respect their wishes.

Nouman Ali Khan spoke about this issue...
and well, the reason why some children act so, is because, parents don't give much attention to their kids when they're young...
    and then, parents start complaining..
the thing is that , parents should give full support to them when they are small..
and when they become older, they won't have this problems with their parents..

it should be mutual respect why should i respect my parents when they treat me like pure garbage and constantly tell you you're a failure and worthless everyday screw that and you even try to respect them and show love to them they don't give a damn

sohaib ahmed : Get out of here with that nonsense. There were companions during early islam that were forced to worship idols against their wills and even they respected their parents. They didn't do it, yet they still had respect. Your parents are probably angry at your for something that YOU did wrong and its a constant back and forth now... Pettyness. Go to the Quran for answers and build a relationship with Allah for love!

sohaib ahmed Salaam bruh, I feel for you man. Maybe you have a tough situation and it may be that your parents aren't upholding their end of the deal by being just towards you as Allah has commanded them to. However, they have still provided for you and raised you based on whatever teachings they themselves had. So, there's two ways you can deal with this:
      (1) You can continue the cycle of negativity and hate by simply passing on the pain you might have received.
      (2) You can break the cycle and step outside the system by being the solution and shaping your environment positively instead of being shaped by it negatively. YOU can be the one to repair the broken relationship you may have with your parents. You first need to find a different foundation for ultimate love: Allah and your own potential and goals and purpose in life. From here, you will need to grow towards those goals, and you may face resistance from your family initially because people fear change. They are afraid of others growing, because they are forced to grow too in response. Here, you have to be patient and gentle, and this will require that you really surround yourself with good company and friends who can keep you uplifted and motivate you even in dark times.
Set a direction in your life--move towards that direction, and do so without buckling to the pressure you receive. As you become more and more successful, your parents WILL realize what you're worth. At the same time, you will be doing whatever you're doing for the sake of Allah, and by showing your parents mercy (mercy means showing people what they don't deserve -- better than what they deserve, or a lesser punishment than what they really deserve), they will learn to feel love for you too. Once you give mercy to others, while maintaining your own space and ensuring you aren't a slave to their negativity, you will be on a different level. Don't look back and keep pushing on wards.
Be the best you can be to others, even when they can't be to you---not for the world, but for Allah and because YOU will be lifted out of that hate into a much better place that you will feel satisfied with. Try it and you'll see yourself in due time.

I think you will enjoy two books in particular that you can get ebooks for free. The first is called "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by PhD psychologist on relationship management and the other is on manhood academy called the principles that govern social interactions. You can see the second one in video form on their manhood academy site. Amaaaazing stuff man and they really give you a map on what to do and where to go in your relationships.

Except christianity doesn't even guarantee salvation and the new testament doesn't fit with the old testament.
