It would be nice to see these theaters restored. Birmingham, AL has restored the Alabama and Lyric theaters in downtown and they have become part of a renaissance of culture in Birmingham. Perhaps the people of Bridgeport, CT would be so moved to follow the example of their Southern neighbors. I know the foundations that helped save those two theaters would be glad to help get a similar organization started.
Awesome, majestic, amazing, incredible... It would be a dream for me to explore it. The best and most beautiful abandoned theater that i´ve never seen. Congratulations for yor video and pictures.
These are different Majestic and Palace Theaters. You are correct about the Broadway theaters with the same names but these two theaters are located in the Downtown area of Bridgeport, CT. One of the many theatres left to rot and disintegrate.
I don't think this video works to give you the true impression of how vast these images are on a compositional level. Never the less, what shame to see such a beautiful structure left behind. It seems like such a marvelous place.
With the big success of the LOEW'S KINGS THEATER in Brooklyn, cites are looking in their own backyards for abandoned 'treasures' like this. Many are in such poor condition they cannot be restored. These two palaces in Bridgeport Ct. are in far better condition than the KINGS THEATER was in Brooklyn! This could be the spark that turns Bridgeport around, excellent location, near Metro North, major highways, Ferry Service. The large PALACE is perfect for live performances, the smaller MAJESTIC is perfect for film showings. The vacant land surrounding the building is perfect for large parking garages with retail on the first floors. As in other cities business and places to eat flock to the theater area. Jobs, new taxpaying business and a rebirth is waiting for Bridgeport with this - the most unique theater 'treasure' in America - TWO beautiful palaces and a small Hotel all in one package.
This is not the Majectic Thea. It is the Palace Thea. which is next door. The Majestic is narrower and smaller by about a thousand seats and is far more ruined than the Palace. I saw movies at both of these theaters when I was a kid and toured them both extensively with their owner in 1972. They were still running xxx films then and it closed shortly after that. The owner was strapped for cash and sold me a leaded glass exit sign from the Palace. I still have it.
this is both sad and scary, this place was once alive and majestic like it's name but everything eventually has to die right? i wish that people would of cared enough to save this beautiful piece of history.
wow this place does live up to it's name even in this condition This places is very Majestic. It still looks like it could be saved. I know it woudl cost a lot of money but it looks like all the elements are still there. I hope something is done before it is to late. They will never build a place like this again
Wow, so amazing how so much work and architecture can be glorified at one time and abandoned the next! BTW, have to ask, is that Explosions in the Sky playing in the background?
I love your Video, I love the Old Theatres, I have been working on some local theatre videos I have uploaded 3 onto RUclips so far. Most of the theatres are totally in ruins or demolished. I took lots of photos about 30 years ago and I have made elaborate slide shows out of them. Not as good as real video though. Thanks Gary Smith
What a shame. I moved away in 1970. Ebvn them a lot of slums near Seaside Park but most of the rest of the city was middle to upper middle class folks. Lots of 2nd generation immigrants from Poland, Italy, Eastern Europe. They all moved away to Stratford, Milford, Trumbull, etc. What a shame. I remember walking downtown Main Street with my mother in the late 50s and 60s. I remember the fine Department Stores and the 5 and 10 cent stores.
never had good luck with this spot but glad you were able to get in, glad you made it in. i have an urbex discord server if youre interested in joining man
There is a new video of these theaters. Who ever has said that they are in bad shape are wrong. The building does need to be stableized and the crap in the Majestic needs to be cleaned up.
In Europe old buildings like this are maintained and in use for centuries. It is sad to see this beautiful theatre just abandoned and left to ruin. We have become a society that puts more value on multiplex big box theatres rather than preserving an architectural gem like this. (Yes, I know, it's all about making money.)
what breaks my heart is that this is in my hometown, its gorgeous and no one will ever see it. Every now and again I hear some asshole teenager say fuck bridgeport, it wasnt always this way.. the way it is now, but I still love it :/
One theatre, the smaller, I believe, has been totally gutted. This place is huge. The total seating is something in the neighborhood of 3,500 +. The city let us in as we had a client who wanted to turn it into a church. It would take about $120,000,000 to get it right. Parking is a big problem (none).
You serious?! We have this in our very own back yard and it's rotting?! These theaters are literally frozen in time. Too bad BPT. has some ungrateful people livin' here who won't even know how to appreciate something like this. It's sad because I love history and If I had an opportunity to go back in time, it would definitely be during BPT's birth. "I love histyory and BPT. is a treasure trove of it."
this is a beautiful movie palace, considering how much neglected over the years it beams opulance from it's era surely worth saving, COME ON AMERICA SAVE YOUR HERITAGE WHILE YOU STILL CAN , i live in the uk and will probably never see this wonderful building, but to see it 'second hand' is great on utube, wont someone in the US of A help please.
This happened because we allwed it to happen. People thought that places like Showcase and Hoyts were better newer places...offered more...how soon we as a species begin to miss the past
Great video. This theater is very similar to the Palace Theater up the line in Waterbury. Fortunately the Palace was restored and reopened. Visit Meet Me at the Palace at royo39neil
mailers to insist that all Fairfield residents donate at least 10 dollars to an established go fund me account. We could raise well over 3 million to help get this place back and up and running. Bridgeport is sitting on a neglected gold mine.
We can't maintain or create anything that is beautiful in this country anymore. America is quickly becoming the most generic, boring, bland place on earth. Very sad.
gorrila jones i love bridgeport it was a random thought and it is still a piece of shit you cant spend five thousand dollers down town bpt. unless you going to jail no retail at all you tell me its the worse down town ever
i showed this to my grand mother and she is now 76 ...she knows this place and went there she got shock

Holy shit, what a beautiful theatre, wish someone would come forward and donate some money to restore that building. it`s too beautiful to tear down
WOW,,,I can't believe how much remains of this once beautiful theater. Even the organ pipes are still there. Too bad someone can't save this place.
Awesome, majestic, amazing, incredible... It would be a dream for me to explore it. The best and most beautiful abandoned theater that i´ve never seen.
Congratulations for yor video and pictures.
Amazing! Very few could afford to build something comparable today. But there are many who could afford to restore it.....

fantastic building! thanks for this video :-)
You can Google the Alabama theater for the website and more information on the restoration efforts.

I really wish I could have lived in bridgeport about 80 years ago, all of the cities historical places have gone to ruins :(
WE HAVE THE SAME CHANDELIER AT THE MOVIE THEATER I WORK AT THE ONE IN MY THEATER IS THE VERY FIRST OF IT'S KIND! 6:15
and just to think, Phantom brought this alive
Pretty cool place to explore! Was there any old sound equipment left?
beautiful ruins - very sad
how long has it been abandoned? when was its last day?
Nice, when's it going to open again?
There is a new video of these theaters. Who ever has said that they are in bad shape are wrong. The building does need to be stableized and the crap in the Majestic needs to be cleaned up.
@TheJDuoBand at what point did anyone say that this palace and majestic were on broadway?
these two theaters aren't the Broadway theatre, they're in CT

its a shame some people cant appreciate thing like this in thier neighborhood.
great video.its a shame to se beatiful places like this abandon, its seems its happening more and more.
@TheJDuoBand you are misting the Palace Theater in NYC this one is in Bridgeport CT.
what breaks my heart is that this is in my hometown, its gorgeous and no one will ever see it. Every now and again I hear some asshole teenager say fuck bridgeport, it wasnt always this way.. the way it is now, but I still love it :/
A lot of theaters were called "Majestic" and "palace"

So beautifully sad Rob!
Does anyone know if there is a group, or office, or even just Theartre folk, dealing with this property? If so who id like to meet them, let me know.

I'm a Drama major and I've got to admit, this is the saddest video ever!
The designers of that time period are all gone. Treasure those that have been maintained or restored because in these days nothing is made to last.
its a shame to se these beatiful theaters abandon
Any news on this building ?
Could you name the music please?
This makes me lava hot, ranting angry and desperately sad
Please give the one word that caused the end of these great places.
Great video. This theater is very similar to the Palace Theater up the line in Waterbury. Fortunately the Palace was restored and reopened.
Visit Meet Me at the Palace at royo39neil
Bridgeport, the town without culture will just let the theater rot, like they did with the rest of the old city. A shame for sure.
I know the "organ pipes" we see are just non-speaking dummies but what became of the organ(s)? Very interesting and well shot vid.
I know where it is and tried to gain permission to gain access to takr pictures but no one answers their phone ;-;
oops nevermind i didn't know this wasn't the one in NYC
This video ISNT HD.
NOT 720p......
Great place for a concerts. But if the surrounding area is low-income and high crime it will never be revived.
i know ayy not HD

incorrect. wrong theater.
We can't maintain or create anything that is beautiful in this country anymore. America is quickly becoming the most generic, boring, bland place on earth. Very sad.
hes not smart he has issues

@TheJDuoBand Guess you didn't read what this was, did you. This is in Connecticut, not New York. You are definitely incredibly misinformed.
@TheJDuoBand you are incredibly misinformed.
I live down town this is a piece of shit
