I'm 44 years old and into metal. My son asked me to take him to a show a couple years ago. I was thinking it would be a waste of time, not my thing. These guys got me hooked. The stuff they said to those kids and the love I saw in that crowd was incredible. Scrim specifically talked about not feeling alone and I saw people crying in the crowd. As shocking as the imagery and subject matter is and may turn people away. It shouldn't. They talk about things all people think about, but never have the balls to discuss. Glad to see them on the show.

Ok, I'm 70 and I can't believe I just sat through 2 hours of a taste of New Orleans. Don't hate me but I have no clue who the s boys are but I love Theo. Now, I am blown away with the honest kinship they all have. Theo kept mentioning that the boys created their own world, when actually, they all had a bond that was their own world, too. Never knew anyone from Louisiana but there is a connection, a drive and a type of honesty you don't see often. Best of everything to all of you.

I also lost my BFF in a car crash. It was intoxicated driving, and it was my friend behind the wheel…….. I think that the only thing that kept me alive was not wanting addiction to claim another soul. I hated my demons for a long, long time… but it took nearly 7 years after losing my bestie to finally get sober and stay sober. 16 1/2 years now sober, and it honestly gets harder the further away from the desperation that I get. Suicideboys give me that desperation back though, some of those bars are real fucking life to me, and they’ll remind me that it’s a long, hard fall down… so I gotta keep my balance.
Couldn’t be more grateful to them and their music, and this interview kind of rounds out the picture for me now. I’d love to catch a meeting with these cats, but just because they’re real people and not some of the fakes you see in a meeting, trying to play up like they know everything and have it all. Scrim’s right, they don’t punch down and to me they feel like an extension of my crew.
Keep up the great work on staying grass-side, you never heal entirely but your friend never leaves you all the way either. Your testimony, every testimony humanizes recovery and mental health and strips stigma away, thank you so much for sharing!

But this is why we are drawn together, in their music we hear a sympathetic and understanding voice, and it feels like a safe place to go while we try to make sense of something that seems utterly senseless to everyone else.

Its the life Story of many people in this world and the "Why" is so easy explainable and still people treat addicts as monsters or people that need to be locked up for years (Im not saying that no addicts needs to be locked up for their actions)
The "Why" is easy, because we all want to be loved in some kind of way and want to feel comfortable in our own skin
Some people have different and harder life paths than others and its so easy to take a pill, for example and feel like you actually like yourself for that moment
And that is all we as humans are doing, all can be fixed with a bit of self love and people that love you and have your back, literally everything, because the meaning of life, to me personally is.. just be loved and give love.. and thats why people can relate cause we all want to fill that hole with something that makes us feel good and alive... and sadly in todays age that are drugs and we all need to adapt to that as people
Hang in there, for everyone that needs it, you and me are not alone in these addiction and drug times, there are always people that suffer just like u, just remember that.

I'm a social worker in addiction care and also have a history of what I would characterize as hazardous use in my youth. I hear this sentiment a lot.
For me a lot changed when I was realized I had ADHD (non-hyperactive type), even before diagnosis and meds. Depending on the study, 20-50% of ppl with substance use disorder has ADHD. Growing up with ADHD, you are 1) constantly understimulated (except when doing stuff that fully captures your attention), feeling like nothing's ever enough, 2) impulsive and deviant tendencies, and likely to 3) feel like an outsider, like a circle in a square world. This will at times make you feel special, more creative etc, other times like a failure, which often fuels a rebellious identity and/or social anxiety.
Given all this, it makes perfect sense from a neurological, psychological, and social-psychological standpoint.
It also makes sense in that many ADHD meds are basically or literally amphetamine, i.e. when used in a controlled manner drugs actually can help you function & feel better.
But on your own, you are quite unlikely to use in a responsible way, which will of course lead to addiction, and a spiral that makes you feel like shit and not function at all
