    Sharon Paige was the singer's name.She was my wife's cousin and the niece of one of my co-workers. She passed suddenly a couple of years ago. R.I.P. Teddy was originally the drummer for HM&TBN until Harold discovered he ecould sing, but as you pointed out, Harold's ego got in the way when Teddy started blowing him off the stage! Harold was not paying the group members and he basically told Teddy that it he didn't like it he could leave! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 He did.....and you know the rest! Cocaine is a hell of a drug! 😂😂😂😂 💯

    Rarely were there “live “ performances on Soul Train. You had to really be able to “sang”. The female artist was the late Sharon Paige.

    • @elisageorge2261
      @elisageorge2261 Год назад +2

      No....All our Artists back in the day could sing live,and better than the recordings. My understanding was Don Cornelius didn't want live performances.. But Luther Vandross was the one that said something to the fact.. if he can't sing live he wasn't gonna sing at all....well wasn't gonna perform at all on the show.. I heard this years ago maybe true maybe not .But I tell you what that live performance on Soul Train of He and Cheryl Lynn singing," If This World were Mine"...is golden...

    Backstory: #ShawnandMel ... Teddy P was a Drummer, he didn't sing at all when Harold found and discovered him; Teddy P was kinda shy at first... They together with he Blue Notes have some Great Hits...
    So what Happened? Teddy P tells the story that he went to Harold for a Loan because he was having problem make ends meet... Harold when up stairs, not knowing that Teddy had followed and was watching through the crack door. Teddy says that Harold pulled the bed up and there were Millions in 100s Bills; Teddy goes down stair and Harold comes and says, "this is the best I can do for you brother" and then hands Teddy $100 .... That was all he valued Teddy...
    Two Weeks later Teddy P was a Solo Act!

      He did a song called I Miss You, but then David Ruffin also recorded it and blew Teddy out of the water with his version.

    Just found out that this was originally a song Gamble and Huff recorded with Dusty Springfield. It was called Let's Get Together Soon. Gamble and Huff rearranged it and then recorded it with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. There is no male vocalist on the original version. Never even knew this before today. Safe to say they took this song to another level.

    Teddy Pendergrass started out as a drummer for Harold Melvin & Blue Notes until Gamble and Huff, owners,and founders of Philadelphia International Records, heard him sing and encouraged him to sing with the group. Harold Melvin was a descent singer, but Teddy Pendergrass really stoled the show. Then later, Gamble and Huff made Teddy Pendergrass the new lead singer, and Harold Melvin wasn't too happy about it. Of course Harold was hating on Teddy, and that jealousy started cause a riff between the two performers. The Blue Notes weren't big enough for both of them. That was the main reason why Teddy Pendergrass went solo, but it was great that they finally squash that beef before they both passed away.

    Slow your roll. The group is owned by Harold Melvin, and Teddy is the featured singer. He is not the first featured singer of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Further, after Teddy left, Harold Melvin hired a new featured vocalist, in fact 2 of them. Yall need to stop that remote unsophisticated analysis. this is the music business and the art is to sell records, which they did.
