I’ve studied Japanese for 10 years and this is perfect for new time learners. I still have heard 中 for during, how is this different compared to 間に and 間?
I'm not sure if this is the full explanation, but this seems to be used just after a noun and not for full phrases as in the video, e.g. 旅行中 (りょこう ちゅう) = During the trip.

Hey Rebecca! あいだ is 2 situations going on like I explained in the video, but ながら is doing something while doing another like I listen to podcast while cleaning everyday . 毎日そうじしながらポッドキャストを聞いてる。 So your main action is to listen to podcast and you are telling what you do while you listen to the podcast. 間 is used to state 2 situations like While I was shopping my kids were playing game the whole time. 私が買い物してる間子供はずっとゲームしてた。 And あいだに is something happening while a situation like 寝ている間にかにさされた。 子供が外で遊んでいる間にそうじする！ I hope it’s clear :)
I take it that AIDA NI is used when a short event takes place during a longer period. An example might be: While I was at work, someone crashed into my car. Let's say 8 hours at work. Car crash took only a minute. Listen again to 6:00

I would guess that toki and aida are interchangeable, since aida is a kanji compound in "jikan" (toki + aida).
