    When I upgraded my screen and sonar to the 32 I asked an online retailer that did trade ins what my entire 22 with screen setup was for a trade-in and they only wanted to offer $250-300 for everything, so I kept it as a beater/spare setup. That was a few YEARS ago. This is ludicrous of Garmin to be offering this tech/bundle in 2024. For the money, get the 32 or 34 kit, its worth the extra resolution.

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад +1

      I agree. Granted I have not used this 'yet' but the benefit of no-pole while nice I don't think it that big of a difference maker when actually in practice. Plus the step back in detail and clarity on the screen and smaller screen (7" vs 9" & PS22 vs LVS32) is pretty significant. The weight savings is nice, but I think Garmin has some opportunity with an improved lvs32 hole hop setup they could do rather than leaning on the ps22 tech.

    The 7ah lead is included. We have already discussed the battery size in this with Garmin. It will not fit the larger size lithium batteries. The ideal battery for this setup will be our 19ah NMC battery. It will be the largest battery to fit this kit and cut out 3lbs.

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад

      Nice! Thanks for commenting and already figuring it out! A 19ah NMC will run this thing for a solid day (almost 24 hours based on the specs I am seeing) vs that 7ah lead acid for MAYBE 5 hours. Plus that is like a 20-25% weight reduction 👀

    Lvs34 has 5 beam on foward facing, I picked up ultra 126sv and summit shuttle and lithium battery 32amp 14.8vdc it runs 10 plus hours . Love it and set up for open water and ice .

    So can you run a clear vu open water transducer on this unit?

  • @joef2504
    @joef2504 6 месяцев назад +2

    for your 15 lb Livescope setup, what screen, battery and shuttle are you running on it? Those are the only variables that you can change to cut weight...I built a LVS12 with a 106sv hole hopper shuttle and it weighs 12 lbs...

    I think Garmin dropped the ball on us ice fisherman ! $2K for this old tec , $2600 for the icefishing lvs32 at scheels , and $3200 for the lvs 34 at cabelas ! The ability to use a unit for summer and winter fishing is a must ! And using a lead acid battery is just nutz nowadays ! Wouldn’t buy this unit for any amount of cash !!!

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад +1

      I could see it as a unit intended to kill the flasher market (MarCum, Vexilar, etc.), but it needs to be significantly less expensive. I agree with your points though

  • @cjharmon6176
    @cjharmon6176 6 месяцев назад +1

    I was lucky enough try this unit last winter although it is the ps-22 technology it’s a great unit to pair with the lvs34 or 32. Basically you use it as a vexilar or marcum flasher. You find the schools/fish with the 34 or 32 then hole hop/sharp shoot with this unit. I found it to be very beneficial and easier to get on fast moving schools with.

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад +1

      Shoot! I'm envious!😊
      Interesting way to use it, I also thought of it as a product intended to compete and kill the flasher competition. Using it in conjunction with an LVS34 (or I guess a 32) could make sense, but that seems like a lot of $$$ for multiple setups when most fishermen use 1 much lower-priced setup today. Maybe this is a niche product? Maybe an introductory product to get people to jump from the flasher over? Either way, $2000 for this setup is at least $500 too high in my opinion. Without a bag, you can buy a secondhand screen make make this setup for ~$1400.
      Thanks for commenting and your feedback & thoughts!

    What’s the beam angle on the livescope options? The 50 degree beam angle on this panoptix catches my attention a little bit as a potential substitute for my mega 360.

    Sorry I missed the live but not a fan of price point can land a Black Friday deal on an lvs32 bundle for same or less. I appreciate the concept though for hole hopping I would love it for that if price was less. I currently use live scope then hole hop with 6” uhd with gt10

    • @AlexTimm

    While I think the idea of a lens to change from wide to narrow is neat, I don’t see this product doing well at this price point. I also don’t see a a dangling transducer working well in current based lakes like Erie. You think they would have went with lithium for actual weight savings. Feels like steps in the wrong direction. I’ll stick with my lvs34 on the summit shuttle that gets year round use with my larmac and dock in the boat.
    I’ll take a few extra pounds so I can drill one hole, scout out over a hundred feet find fish then drill less holes.

  • @joef2504
    @joef2504 6 месяцев назад +1

    it seems like the "lens" idea should be applicable to the LVS32/34... so does it just block out the top & bottom portions of the PS22-IF transducer face and only allow the middle portion to scan with?

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад

      Great question! I don't have a definitive answer, but I'll find out for you. My current understanding is that the lens works similarly to a magnifying glass or a pair of glasses. It essentially focuses the sonar beams into a more concentrated area, rather than allowing the beams to spread out over a wider area without the lens. This focusing effect helps to improve the resolution and accuracy of the sonar readings in the targeted region. However, I'll try and get confirmation on the specifics of how it functions this week with Garmin at ICAST and put out a video with more details.

  • @tomp3146

    So here it goes. This technology transforms Ice Fishing into something else... The unit takes over and fishing comes second. No way anything on the ice should cost 2000 dollars or more. Except of course whatever vehicle you use to get around. I've fished with guys that have similar units and they are nearly 100% focused on that alone.

  • @EDOD1144
    @EDOD1144 6 месяцев назад +1

    People forget the PS-22 does not need a black box and is still very useful when in down-vu mode. Especially if you fishing lake trout, the 22 is way better than the 32 and still better than the 34 when fishing deeper water which in turn make it a versatile transducer. From a compact hole hoping perspective this is defiantly an excellent setup. To write off PS-22 as old tech or not useful I think is a mistake. If you have a 73sv or 93sv, you can buy a $4-500 transducer used and be in the Panoptix game, instead of a more substantial investment in livescope. That said, I don't like the price...... the PS-22 is a gateway drug..... make it more affordable to get people hooked on Panoptix and in turn LVS eventually... its how they got me! Lol

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад

      No black box is VERY nice to have! Very good point about lower price point to enter using ps22 for forward facing rather than the more expensive livescope systems - if only it was 25% less expensive

    • @AlexTimm
      @AlexTimm  6 месяцев назад +1

      I would have appreciated a livescope version, I just don't know if they solved for no black box yet for livescope so they decided to start here?

      I have the UHD 93 SV… i’ve never fished with a live scope before… But always have wanted to for ice fishing. I just don’t know whether getting this PS 22 transducer would actually be worth it or would it be better to stick with the LVS 32. Like I wanna do this once. I’m just worried about making a mistake and not being happy. I hear the clarity and the separation is like night and day between the PS 22 and LVS 32??
