3hours that's a long film especially pre LOTR & Hobbit. Nice review Rob. Never seen it. Didn't Steve McQueen (close friend of Garner) make his own race movie a few years later and that was long too. Frankenheimer made great movie 'TheTrain' around this time too. Cheers Rob.
Actually 3 hours movies were kind of common at this period. Look at My Fair Lady, Ben Hur, Sound of Music, and Spartacus for example. I think it was also because studios were looking to compete with TV and offered longer "important" movies. I think they eventually died out until Harry Potter and LOTR came round. McQueen made LaMans. I read McQueen wanted Garner's role and was ticked when his friend took it. Frankenheimer made some great early TV dramas some on youtube I recommend like Days of Wine and Roses and the Comedian.
@@RandBreviewsrandbreviewYes I guess they were fairly routine in 60' come to think of it. Thanks for that Rob, will look those up re. Frankenheimer. Thanks again Rob.
I saw this movie at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood when it opened and haven't see it since. I just remember liking it. You make me want to see it again. I just may have to pick it up if I see the dvd or blu-ray in the wild.
Thanks for giving the video a chance. I imagine this was great to see on the big screen back in the day. The shots were great here and so was the music.
I Agree, Grand Prix (1966) While Not A Masterpiece, It Is A Great Film. I Really Like The Cast In This Like You’ve Got, James Garner (Who Was In, Toward The Unknown (1956) And The Great Escape (1963), And Many More. The Best Thing About This Film Is Definitely The Racing Sequences. The Racing Scenes Were Shot By Using A Radio-Controlled Super Panavision Cameras, Microwave Viewfinders, A Helicoptering Cameraman And Daredevil Drivers. The Cons I Have With This Film Is That It Drags A Bit During The Monaco Race And The Circuit De Spa-Francorchamps Race And I Do Think That It Is A Big To Long At 2 Hours And 55 Minutes And There Is Barely Any Racing Sequences. 8/10 Here Is Another Great Racing Film That You Make Like. Steve McQueen In Le Mans (1971)
Thank you for coming back to comment on the movie. Don't remember which race was which but I didn't think any of the races dragged for me. I do think the middle of the movie did and agree that it was too long. You have to imagine you are watching it on the big screen. I wish I had known how they did the racing scenes when I did the video. I also thought Nino's girlfriend was bland and didn't add anything. I get they wanted Nino to come across as a bit of a ladies' man but I felt like it was under developed. My library has Le Mans. Now that the Holidays are done and my personal stuff is out of the way, I will have to take a look. If I do it as a review, I'll respond here.
Nice review. I hadn't heard of this movie either. Btw did you hear the news about Geoffrey Rush playing Groucho Marx in an upcoming movie? The movie will based on a memoir by Groucho Marx's manager and will be set later in Groucho's career, that's why they got an older actor like Geoffrey Rush to play him.
@@RandBreviews Yeah it should be interesting. I'm hoping that after it comes out Joe Ramoni from the channel Hats Off Entertainment does a fact or fiction video on it since he already did fact of fiction videos on Stan and Ollie and The Three Stooges biopic.
I recently discovered an interview with Seth MacFarlane where he was promoting A Million Ways to Die in the West, it was an interview he did in the UK. In that interview he said that he's always been a big fan of British comedy and said he's a fan of Monty Python, Benny Hill, The Young Ones and Blackadder. Rik Mayall was in both The Young Ones and Blackadder so Seth is definitely familiar with Rik Mayall as an actor. I think Seth MacFarlane always cited Rex Harrison and David Hyde-Pierce as influences for Stewie but its long been rumoured that Rik Mayall and Noel Coward might have also been influences for Stewie. I can see the similarities between Rik Mayall and Stewie as well as similarities between Noel Coward and Stewie but I'm not sure if Seth actually based Stewie on them because he's never officially said so. I think maybe he might have subconsciously based Stewie on them which I think is pretty interesting. What do you think?
I figured Seth was. I had heard that Stewie's voice was based on Rex Harrison. The alien in American Dad is based off of American comedian Paul Lynde. I saw a video where you are making a short film. When I have a moment, I will watch that announcement.
@@RandBreviews Could you please watch the video called "Some projects I might be working on with my friends" first before you watch the video called "Update on a short film I said I might be working on". That update one is kind of a sequel to the earlier video I did on it. I think it will be a while until we make it but I will be getting my teeth straightened soon so hopefully my teeth will look better when we get around to making it. I would prefer for my teeth to look better in the film.
I've seen this movie now and really enjoyed it. I realised that in the UK it was released as a part of the HMV Premium collection so I bought that edition of it.
@@RandBreviews It's not in a box set, HMV Premium editions are exclusive to a dvd and Blu ray shop in the UK called HMV. I picked up some more Premium releases recently and this was one of them. I did do a video on my HMV Premium collection and you commented on it. I might do an updated version of it now that I've gotten more of them but I might get some more of them before I do an updated HMV Premium collection video.
Hey I've just done a video on my Harry Enfield collection and in the description of that video I linked playlist of some of my favourite Harry Enfield sketches. I have shown you some of my favourite Harry Enfield sketches before but could you please check out my Harry Enfield collection video and check out the playlist I linked in the description then tell me what you think of those sketches? Harry Enfield is a really funny British comedian. He's mainly known for sketch comedy but he was also on a sitcom called Men Behaving Badly which was also very popular and very funny. There was an American remake of Men Behaving Badly starring Rob Schneider but it wasn't very popular.
Excellent Review Rob :) .
Thanks, Chris.

I found the DVD release for me. I enjoyed it but it is one that I don't see myself revisiting often. You may still like it more than I did.
I normally watch reactions. But this works. Saw this in the theater with my Dad. Fantastic music by Maurice Jarre.
