    i think its so unfair to put all the negativity on Reason. him being signed to TDE at the time that he was really unfair, because nobody was releasing from the label. everyone we wanted to hear form was quiet for so long he became the punching bag. and unfortunately he didn't have that stand out factor that made him distinct from the group like everyone else did. i wish he would had been signed to Dreamville instead, i think he would have fared better and faced so much less hostility.

I feel tempers flared and they got outta line a lil bit but I agree he shoulda signed to dream like idt he compatible with TDE. When I first heard him I was like he okay but I didn’t get that same feeling I got when I heard Zay. I think they been tryna tell him he has to be more of him to be the artist TDE fans love. Facts! Because SZA expressed similar sentiments as Reason prior to dropping CNTRL. There has been little to no push from TDE for anyone in their line up. Now are some critiques of REASON are valid in regards to the lack of either replay value for his singles. But he has some of my favorite features as it pertains to the wit and rawness of his bars. EOD TDE hasn’t been handling any of their artists well as of late. Dreamville has done more with half the artist of TDE from quality, to promo, to roll out. The only hiccup they’ve really had was mishandling Ari Lennox’s marketing in like 2020-21. TDE has gotten lazy with their artist and your can’t blame REASON for that.

      @@IAmWizdom1000 I agree with you. I really think Top Dog be lookin for artist who are self sufficient. I think Kendrick and the OG members (even Zay) spoiled them cause they drive to make the music they wanted was beyond any other label. Ab Soul said in a song “I love indo but Due Dog love endorsements”. lol I think AB know his stance in the game. He know he not mainstream catchy but for him it work cause he spit that scientific, deep thinking shit. And soul can just flat out spit. So I’m thinking Top want his artist to find a way to stand out like Zay. Like bro said in the video Zays southern drawl and swag just appealing cause it’s fresh just like Souls intellect. Look how Jay Rock style evolved. He always had bars but just was missin somethin. Now he rappin with that Vice City style and it fit him. Hey, another long time fan here. I just wrote another comment but you probably won't see it. My theory is that Kendrick was actually the creative engine behind TDE the entire time like he was basically the one coming up with the material for all of their albums and singles, or at least 75%. Then somewhere after DAMN he starts changing directions musically(we hear him trying out the Baby Keem style on the track Big Shotz) but Top probably didn't like it and thought they were gonna lose money going too experimental so instead of trusting Kendrick like he always had. They ultimately decided to part ways and that's when Kendrick starts putting out music through baby keem. There's been a few leaked reference tracks of Kendrick doing songs that are from even older Keem projects like Sound of Bad Habit, so this is stuff Kendrick was coming up with after DAMN. and The funny thing is that even sounds like a Kendrick album title... Sound of Bad Habit reminds me of Habits & Contradictions by Q. So yeah that's my theory and that's why all those other artists output has pretty much dried up and their new output is mid , because Kendrick was the creative engine for all of it and that's irreplaceable

    This is a TDE problem. They've always had a problem with promoting music. They lost the whole family environment that seemed to hold them down for years. They no longer collab. SZA was crying about no one on the label getting there verse into her in time and you barely see them featured on each other's music anymore. I understand the whole getting back to your own life and am very patient with waiting for music to drop but it has always been the promotion that is lacking, and roll out for their projects. Tde never really proved they could make an artist big anyways.
      Tde was an underground label that happened to sign one of the best artist of a generation.
      The other rappers success was off the back of Kendricks superstardom.
      Who would know what a black hippy was if Kendrick wasn't a part of it?
      Rashad Joined at a fever pitch where Kendrick was huge and the other rappers were at their peak.
      Rashad was introduced to us with a schoolboy feature at the height of schoolboys popularity.
      Another thing I'll add is their rap artist ray Vaughn.. his numbers aren't that good.
      Then look at the numbers, longevity, etc of the new ab soul. Crash talk by schoolboy. They all went.. i don't wanna say downhill, that might be extreme.. but there wasn't the same hype excitement and push of those artists and it showed in the numbers and how well the albums stuck around and are mentioned.
      Tde was empowered by raps true core fanbase for being the last beacon of real rap in the mainstream. That they were a group of rappers who would be making this music if they were homeless. They got on and moved away from that aspect and it was never the same since.
      No more black hippy. Barely on each other's songs. No more random freestyles.
      It's a shell of what it was. What tde meant to hip hop is no longer. It used to be the place ppl pointed when they wanted to demonstrate excellence while remaining true to the craft.
      Now what is tde? Bbl's, leaked sex tapes, numbers going down, artists complaining, co president talking crazy.
      Not every artist is going to be Kendrick. No longer will the artists have the opportunity of Kendrick to feed from just to get eyes on their stuff.
      Go look at the tde RUclips page. Look at the numbers there.
      There was a time where anything dropped on that page went up.

This is when the label felt like a family to the fans and you could hear it in the quality of the music because they appeared on each other's projects, making each other better, developing chemistry and genuinely supporting one another. SZA and Sir made sense to me too because they brought something different that the label didn't have already and they could develop them the same way.
    I still LOVE what the label brings to the game and I give all of the newer artists a fair spin because I trust the TDE machine. I think the root of the unfair criticism Reason and many other artists get on the label is because the bar is set so high when you compare them to the ones that came before them.
    Additionally, I think the label has too many artists on their plate to develop them in the same way they did with the founders that came before them that are successful enough now to not require as much label support like Dot, Q & SZA.
    For some, the label just isn't a good fit, Reason being a prime example. Like so many others I think him being on Dreamville makes more sense.

Whoever was up next, every artist/management made sure the fans were aware. The fact nobody even knew that Porches was dropping shows how little the label actually cares for REASON. It’s sad because he really is one of the most talented Emcees out rn. Il ride with TDE to the death but they’ve gotta do better. I was die hard TDE fan and it’s sad to see the label falling apart. I’m going to be honest I don’t think TDE will ever find artists as big as Kendrick, Q, Soul, Rock, Zay, SZA and SiR. When TDE added Reason, Zacari, and Doechii I wasn’t moved at all and can’t get into their projects. TDE is terrible at promotion and dropping singles/albums in a timely manner. I always joke with my sister that once someone drops (Zay, SZA, Rock, Q, etc) it’ll be another 4+ years till we get another album 😭 Ngl tho I’ll wait those years because I know for a fact that whenever Kendrick, Q, Zay, etc drop it’ll be worth it.
    On another note let’s be real Moosa shouldn’t even be Co-President, only reason he’s in that position is because of his father. Moosa is hurting TDE more than helping. What Co-President trashes their artists publicly on a platform?? He could’ve sat down with Reason and had a genuine discussion about everything but nooo he wanted to be petty and use his label status to humiliate his artist. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Kendrick and Dave left for a REAL reason and I’m pretty more TDE artist will follow suit once their contracts have been fulfilled. Reason needs to either join PG Lang or find another label who respects his artistry. It’s f’d up that only one label mate supported his release party.

There’s no way that a rapper on the same label as lyrical heavyweights that understand song structure, should struggle to put together an album with solid 3minute tracks. With TDE’s line up, he should be able to brainstorm and produce an album with at least 5 bangers. It’s the label’s fault that no one can name 10 songs by Reason. So I have kind of a controversial take on this, but my running theory is that Kendrick was actually the creative engine behind pretty much everyone's albums and output during that whole 2010s era. It's not that Kendrick was necessarily ghostwriting in the traditional sense. I'm getting the impression that Kendrick is so creative. He comes up with so much different ideas for songs and choruses and verses that don't necessarily mesh well with his particular sound and career, but is great stuff nonetheless. So he finds other artists to basically perform it for him and put their own little spin on it together and then paired with a team of really good in-house producers with good chemistry, That's why every album that was coming out of TDE for a few years was pretty damn good. Especially the schoolboy q albums IMO are pretty underrated. And if you go back and listen for the Kendrick undertone in most of it, you'll probably hear exactly what I'm talking about and I mean it as a good thing. I mean it sounds amazing. But the way I started to catch on to this especially was when it became clear that Kendrick had written a lot of baby keem songs and hearing the leaked reference tracks from baby keem projects that were actually a couple years old like back when he was taking a break after the DAMN album... And I started to wonder is this stuff that Kendrick is coming up with but wouldn't want to release under his own name because it would throw off his career image? Then one time I was listening to a track called Big Shots that Kendrick did with Travis Scott around 2018 I think and I noticed Kendrick was experimenting with a very different style on that song and I had never really noticed it before. But this is basically the baby keem style and I started to realize oh he was experimenting with the style on here but probably decided against it and decided to maybe find another artist to work with on this new style. Kendrick is very forward thinking musically and he is probably already been thinking ahead trying to figure out what the next iteration of hip hop or what the next genre that is really going to take over is that he is going to want to be able to release music as and still maintain his image .... what I'm guessing probably happened is that he had a disagreement with Top Dawg about this.... Kendrick probably was saying that he was thinking about switching the style up and moving in a different direction musically and Top probably didn't like the idea and thought maybe they were going to lose money going too experimental instead of trusting Kendrick like they always had, and Kendrick probably ultimately decided to drop one more album and then split from the label and go their separate ways and then he established PG LANG to start working directly with Keem and a new cast of artists. The other thing that really convinces me this might be the case Is that all those other artists output has pretty much dried up since Kendrick started working with Keem. Not much going on with Jay Roc and especially Schoolboy Q(pretty sure the chorus from Studio came from Kendrick)... But when I listen through most of Baby Keem's music now I can really tell. Especially if you pay attention to how Keem talks about a lot of mature and complex subject matter in some of his songs that doesn't necessarily seem like it would come from his life experience. In fact, sometimes he even riffs on about problems that come from being rich and famous and especially like a couple years ago Keem was very young and unknown and looking back on it now It just seems kind of strange some of his lyrical content but when I put it through the filter of it being something that Kendrick wrote it actually makes a lot of sense. Just as one quick example, and there are many, go listen to the song " No Sense" by Baby Keem and then tell me do you think the lyrics sound like they came from him or like they could have been written by Kendrick? Also helps explain how he had access to such good producers on his very first projects....One of them is produced exclusively by Cardo. Also take a minute to imagine the insane amount of instrumental production Kendrick must have access to, I mean probably for several years he has had all of the best producers in the world sending him stuff, he probably hears tons of stuff that he likes that he's hearing before anyone else that he could totally have dibs on. And maybe he's even having ideas of how to flow on this song, but he knows he could never actually release a song like this under his name... You start to see how this would work for him to have other artists to feed material to. And really stop and think.... Do you think Kendrick really let everyone on the roster write their own verses for the BET cypher? Or do you think Kendrick could have written the whole thing or at the very least, gone through and heavily edited and modified everyone's verse and establish the order he wanted it to go in before it got to him?
    in conclusion, Kendrick is on another level entirely. Creative genius.
    Thanks for reading

      Kendrick also wrote all of Goosebumps.
      But whenever I remember them I try to point out lyrics that don't seem like something Keem would say but Kendrick "it's a lot of sponge around me, raps sons around me, get the fuck from round me"

    They feel like they established themselves with the success of their original roster and their days of developing artists are behind them but they fail to realize that’s what people gravitated to them for. Their touch and curation was a breath of fresh air in hip hop but their too ahead of themselves to realize that.

    What made TDE legendary was black hippy. Some of the most talented artist in the game with all different approaches to music working together on songs. Not even just there collabs q talked about how they all listened and critiqued his music. They lost that "we all gotta eat" mentality and its sad that reason and sza was the only one who still wanted to eat. Reasons best used his talents in lambotruck, when he finally had other great mc's he was working with and off of.

    Porches is a major AOTY contender for me personally. The major problem is what Reason said… he hasn’t been allowed to drop. Either that, or simply TDE is promoting him and engaging with him enough to get him heard by more listeners, which is a fact. Porches was announced one week ahead of release and people barely knew. I follow a majority of TDE artists… outside of Soul, Isaiah and MAYBE Q, no one reposted or announced his album. They just simply don’t put in enough work or support for their artists and the cracks are showing immensely. I personally love Reason, and I hope stars like him and Doechii leave TDE soon, before their careers start to crumble due to lack of care and poor execution

    TDE is the problem. As of October 2023, Schoolboy Q hasn't dropped since 2019, SiR hasn't dropped since 2019, Jay Rock hasn't dropped since 2018, SZA took 5 years off before SOS, Kendrick took 5 years off before Mr Morale, Ab-Soul took 6 years off before Herbert. They have this quality > quantity mindset that worked really well in the 2010s but isn't doing what it needs to do for their newer artists in this new music landscape

      I like quality over quantity when it comes to music, but 5 years for any artist is crazy. The internet will forget about someone within the year. That’s just how it goes and they are all talented for sure, but at this point it’s becoming wasted potential more than anything.

    Reason obviously has great talent. I love the what he was since the very beginning but I was already open to using new people at the time. If other people are like me, then majority of the time you listen to new people when you here other people play them over and over and you become curious or an artist you already like features them. For Reason, I can only think of AbSoul and SZA jumping on a song with him. If they aren't helping each other, then fans of the others probably won't hop on the bandwagon until their ready to try something new

  • @Steezyjo510

    Honestly their problem is treating their new artists like they did the dream team. Dot, Q, Soul, Rock, are just in a league of their own. Their music was so good waiting 4 years between projects with minimal marketing was nothing to fans. The new guys just don't have the juice to drop off the radar and then drop an album expecting it to do numbers.

    • @topbackpodcast2615
      @topbackpodcast2615 7 месяцев назад +5

      I would disagree slightly. I don’t think they focused on Kendrick’s success, their problem was that they were relying on Kendrick’s success to keep them afloat. Although I respect the quality over quantity mentality they have at TDE, they’re also not pushing their artists to keep up their momentum. It took 6 years for Ab-Soul to drop a project. That’s career suicide for an underground artist like Ab-Soul. Kendrick and Lamar and SZA were able to successfully drop an album after a 5 years wait because they are established artists with a huge fan base. But Ab-soul is different, and although his album is great, the buzz that he had has died. Ab-Soul at this point in his career is not gaining new fans, and if he is it’s so minimal.

  • @KhidrJoseph

    Dreamville is J. Cole's record label, which isn’t attached to his identity. All his artists can be themselves and grow in their lanes. TDE identity is connected to Black Hippy. When you hear TDE, you think oh, KDOT, AbSoul, Schoolboy Q, and J-rock. Their brother and underground come up built their story. They all had amazing mixtape runs before they ever had a debut album. SZA and Isaiah also had an amazing mixtape run, and we’re still allowed time to grow. None of these artists are attached to TDE like that anymore. There’s an immense amount of pressure for anyone to come into their camp to carry on their legacy. Also, hip-hop as a genre is dying, making talent much more challenging to find. TDE NEEDS TO REBRAND. They need a clean slate that isn’t attached to their past. Reason never stood a chance.

    • @BigLBadman
      @BigLBadman 7 месяцев назад

      Why do you think Hip-Hop is dying?

    • @KhidrJoseph
      @KhidrJoseph 7 месяцев назад

      @@BigLBadman It's been alive for 50 years. There's no other music genre that has maintain it's popularity for that long of a time span. Jazz had it's moment, Soul Music, Disco, EDM, Rock, Punk rock, Alt rock, etc etc etc. They all had their moments and died out. HipHop is in need of an evolution or better yet we need a new sound. I think across the board every creative genre is suffering a bit. Everything is oversaturated and social media is ruining things. The thing that made all those sounds special was they all had time to develop their sound. Today, as soon as you make something that is slightly creativity that machine that is the industry swopes you up.
