- How are British male mindsets changing? Nine men came into The Future Laboratory to share their views.
In the wake of all the toxic masculinity headlines and social media posts, we wanted to know how real men are feeling and talking about their gender in 2018. So we invited nine males of different ethnicities, ages and occupations to The Future Laboratory to debate the changing role of masculinity.
Discussing everything from workplace behaviour and relationships to self identity and mental health, the film provides a snapshot of how these men feel the male mindset is evolving.

being a man is being able to provide for the people around you and prioritizing others. it consists of three things:
- physical strength and mental resilience
- ability and willingness to take risks and fight for others
- mastery of a craft
stop allowing yourself to be weak. stop letting yourself do nothing. come to reality and be better.

Pause the video at 0:41. Body language speaks volumes here. The only men that are sitting up straight, chins up with their shoulders back are the two older men. The younger guys are all sitting slouched, chins down and hanging their shoulders inward like timid and defeated boys. The older men from a different generation who endured much harder times, mantled the responsibility to persevere and became strong men as a result. These younger guys are used to coping their way through minor inconveniences, mentally remaining as children while blaming someone else for their problems.
I used to sit slouched like that to, because no one ever told me to fix my posture.
Part of me agrees, another part thinks its because masculinity has been brow beaten and demonized. Its hard to sit up straight and be proud when you think you are inherently 'bad'.
