- Meet Sakurako, an 18-year-old Japanese student with a strong passion for art and fashion. When going through difficult times in life, Sakurako found confidence and inspiration through a supportive teacher, and from a group of fashionable friends she met on the streets of Harajuku.

We first noticed Sakurako when she was a Tokyo high school student featured in the Japanese teen fashion magazine HR. Sakurako ran with a group of colorful Japanese teens whose street styles and lives were chronicled in the magazine. Sakurako is not a tall girl, but her personality is very big, and that was apparent even in the first photos we saw of her.
After meeting her in person on the streets of Harajuku, we immediately became fascinated by her bigger than life personality mixed with a quiet introspective side. She told us that she had confidence issues when she was younger and both art and fashion had helped her to grow as a person, with Harajuku being a big part of that growth.
In 2017, HR Magazine shut down. Around that same time, Sakurako graduated from high school. After graduation, she decided to attend one of Tokyo's most well known art schools, Tama Art University. Sakurako and her friends from HR continue to visit Harajuku, and their colorful fun styles are evolving as they all age.
Sakurako is increasingly focused on her art, and finding ways to mix art and fashion. She told us that she plans to be an artist for all of her life, and probably to teach art to young people in the future. After having her life positively impacted by a supportive teacher, Sakurako wants to pass that support on to the next generation of creative young people.
