@@adetXfoto I decided to make entire video on it shooting it now. I do need to add the links also. Hope to have published by Sat. Been absolutely insane week.
Very thorough as always. Chris. I’m glad you mentioned how important the USB cable is. I have been using the paid LR plugin for a couple of years and when I upgraded from an X-T3 to X-T5 I thought the tethering just didn’t work on the X-T5 because I used the same USB cable that worked with the X-T3. One day I tried a Thunderbolt 4 cable and the X-T5 connected very quickly. I didn’t realize the old USB-C cable was working but it was so slow that I gave up and assumed something else was wrong. Unfortunately the price of these cables is not cheap, but well worth it if you are going to do tethering. Thanks for putting in all the time to test and document these issues. You are a wealth of information.
Thanks so much for making this video. I was asked by a friend to take actor headshots of her son. I normally do wildlife and landscape photography so portrait photography is outside my comfort zone. By tethering the camera to the computer we were able to spot errors (clothes, hair, lighting) and work in a very collaborative way. Your video gave me the confidence to try tethering and therefore create better photos. Thank you so much for all your efforts in supporting the Fujifilm community. You are a wonderful resource.
Not sure I understood, before watching this, what tethered shooting was and I doubt I’ll be using it. I’m also not an Adobe user. Given those two issues why did I still enjoy the video so much? Thanks, Pal2tech, always good.
Thank you. An nice illustration of how Fuji views software development. As a digital designer it plain to see how poorly this app is designed. Features before UX, a guaranteed way to below par software. What Fuji need to realize is that users do not interact with cameras via hardware. We interact via software. You are a software company now. Hardware is becoming more and more standardized.
Awesome video! I also had to ask you about the wireless tethering for Capture One also on Fuji, but this time with the GFX system please! (precisely with the GFX 100ii) I've been desperately looking for info about it but I couldn't find any... If you have some answers you will become my guardian angel! Thanks for your awesome tutorials as always!
I am baffled by how Fujifilm always makes these apps half-broken. It doesn't work on Windows, only Mac, and it doesn't match market expectations for a tethering app. There is no native live view and slow import, It just baffles me.
I’ve used XT-5 and Fujifilm X app on the 12.9 m2 iPad in the field, that has a live view option, was as sluggish as a mule but it did the job I suppose. One thing I say the app is 100 times more connective than with my older version of camera/app which is with the XE-3
Outstanding info as always. Think you could do a lil summary of all the different Fuji apps? There's so much more than I realized, and I've never really understood the point of many of them. Feels like I'm missing the full potential of my camera by ignoring most of the apps.
IMPORTANT, SEE THIS VIDEO BEFORE INSTALLING: ruclips.net/video/8tF88ZBYyl8/видео.html It will explain how to find the correct Windows or Mac installer file.
Like every 1st version of anything, confusing and lacking however, it might be a step on the right direction for Fuji, that being said, unless you don’t have the possibility of buying it, C1 offers a more stable platform. Thanks for taking the time to explain!
Thanks Chris- I don't shoot tethered often, but when I do, I think I'll stick with Capture One for tethering. It's just easy and I'm already familiar with tethering with it.
Another great educational video. Tethering has been a huge bugbear for me because when using the previous version of the paid for software I experienced lots of windows opening each time I shot an image. This was super irritating. However, I will try to follow your suggested set up and see how that works. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great tutorial !!! I like it much better than the X Acquire app. I shoot portraits in a studio and like the subject(s) to view the photos as I shoot them. One thing that would be nice is to be able to go into full screen mode from the tethering app, because it is a bit slower to have to wait for the photos to show in LrC.
Does it work with the xt2? I’m on the fence of switching to the Nikon zf, but if this works with the xt2, I most likely will stay on Fuji and get the xt5 for my assistant and keep using the xt2 for my personal work.
I finally got round to installing the Fuji tethertool on one of my machines and would love to have the liveview function -- but that requires the other plugin! How can I get that plugin, when I don't have Lightroom? I don't want to install CaptureOne on this computer, I just want some quick tethered shooting solution for occassional use, but would appreciate having Live View. Anyway, I can live without it. I'm just wondering, that if I don't have Lightroom, how am I even supposed to get that functionality for my Fuji X series cameras in the first place???
The cable speed difference is definitely intriguing… My guess is that the slow one is not the same spec as the camera max transfer rate. My GFX 50S II has a USB3.2 Gen1x1 port per Fuji’s specs, capable of 5 Gbps (gigabits per second), or 625 MBps.
Hi, I need some help with my Fujifilm X-T30 II. I've tried a few apps, but I haven't been able to connect it successfully. Is there any way to do tethering with the X-T30 II? Thanks in advance :)
Thank you for the in depth explanation. but still it doesnt have a live view mode. i just wanted to ask, i currently have capture one, but it only allows me to shoot manual mode when tethered. is this really the case? you cannot set it to AF for capture one?
Tried loading the app onto my (fairly new) MacBook Pro and it keeps giving me the "Failed" warning, and that I have to contact the manufacturer (good luck). I own the GFX 100s. Any suggestions?
Does anyone know why, after buying and installing the Lightroom Classic plug-in, all of the full features that should be in the Fuji Tethering App, such as the Live View button, still don't appear?
Hey Chris - Great video. I'm only left with two issues. 1. I cannot get the app to focus by clicking on the live view screen; and 2 after I take a photo, the app tells me it cannot move it to my watched folder because it is not readable. Using an XT3, and M1 iMac, all with latest updates, and I have the Fuji Pro app also installed. Grateful for any insight.
I have the Fujifilm Plugin Pro but having a hard time installing it. Doesn't seem to work. Any videos on this that may help? Creative cloud installs but doesn't actually do anything
I wish the X-App smartphone app was better. It lost connection easier than the Canon app I used to use, and it wouldn't give me a preview after I shot, as well as being incredibly difficult to view the image after I shot when going into the playback menu. I'm working on getting a Camranger but it's a bummer it didn't work that well because Camranger is a little overboard for most of my shooting.
and if you use regular Lightroom cc not classic? I still have the issue of multiple versions of the app opening when I put in LR as the linked software on the tether app but on lightroom theres no auto import menu option once I open my version of LR.
Gaaahhhh. Set up the wifi network, but 'Wireless Tether Shooting Fixed' doesn't appear in my Connection Mode menu. Not even grayed, just not there. Anyone got any ideas?
Thought maybe my XT30 would work but not so. Would it be a good idea to tell folks that any camera body with a *4 in the Fuji Tethered App Compatibility Chart does not tether.
The app downloads a .PKG file which is not opened by any native Windows programs so it would not seem to really be available for Windows users. Even on the Fuji UK website it only lists the Operating Systems as MAC.
Hold on. I see a MAJOR problem. I'm actually going to make a video about it right now and it will be available in the next hour or so. You are not doing anything wrong.
There is a spot on the download page that says windows and Mac. It wasn’t obvious to me, but click on the word Windows to change the download to the Windows version.
@@aristotle_4532 What I am really hoping for is the ability to shoot video while using an editing software to monitor, so as to be able to add or make LUTs in real time or pull up exposure tools such as waveform or false color. That would negate my need to buy or rent a monitor specialized for filmmaking
I hope someone will set me straight if I get this wrong. Many FUJI cameras have a wifi connection, but there's no way to transfer images from camera to my Windows PC other than using a USB cable. Ideally the camera should show up as a drive on my PC, allowing me to move/copy files at will via the wireless connection. Please...someone tell me how to do this! BTW I have no interest in "tethering" as I understand it.
They need to stop developing apps and start developing continuous AF that works for the XH2s firmware. At this point firmware v1.03 was better than the train wreck that is v7.
