    good tutorial! the bit about the Proxmox OpenVPN documentation helped me with my unprivileged container. One thing to note is that since WireGuard uses UDP, the default port is typically acceptable since it will not respond to unauthenticated requests.

    I made a test of wireguard in a kubernetes cluster but was not super happy with that, so I tried in an lxc container and was struggling with the turnkey template when I watched your video you saved my day :) I put the turnkey to the garbage and start from a fresh vanilla os with the script of Nyrt, it works well. Many thanks for your content, I enjoyed it :)

    Thanks so much for this mate. I have been re-organising my homelab and wanted to get Wireguard up a level into an isolated Proxmox LXC and out of a docker container in a Linux VM. I was stuck until i found this video. Sorted me out a treat. An easy to follow, well structured video. Cheers

    Why did you select DHCP when setting up the container?
    And why did this work for you instantly? I'm pretty sure I need to set up port forwarding on my router, which I would expect is easier with a static IP.

    • @homelabd
      @homelabd  9 месяцев назад +2

      @@JspectraX I'm guessing you didn't port forward. You have to port forward the specified port for Wireguard. This will allow incoming connection requests from the internet to go straight to WireGuard (so sorry for the extremely late reply, hopefully this can still help someone).

    Hi, normally don't comment but wireguard has been the bane of my homelab journey. Always had issues with not being able to access my local apps. I had it working in a VM but I'm trying to use LXCs for everything.
    This video solved all my problems. Very clear.
    You mentioned asking for feedback. I'd say your layout worked great and adding chapters is a HUGE plus for me. I think I'd just say improve your lighting and maybe try to project your voice a bit more. I've heard people do this alot cause they're using their indoor voice like being in discord with friends. For clarification you speak very clearly but I feel improving in this area will give your videos more personality. That combined with your concise explanations and straight to the point explaining is what I look for in these sorts of videos.
    Thanks alot!

      Thank you for the kind words!!!! I'm glad I was able to help. Also, I greatly appreciate the feedback. Its interesting, my voice changes the moment there's a camera in front of me. I think its something I still have to get used to if I want to continue making these types of videos (which I do).

    This worked great for me on Ubuntu 23.04 lxc container image, thanks. Initially i couldn't get it working because it turned out i was port forwarding to the proxmox host, not the vpn server, as i did not realise the container appeared as a separate client within my routers client list.

    Really nice video. I followed everything just link you did. I didnt change the port to avoid any port forwarding. But after creating tunnel in my phone, I am not able to get internet.
    I tried with default DNS server and the google DNS server on different phones. But same result.
    About my setup, I have connected one LAN cable from my ISP modem to my mini pc where proxmox and wireguard are running. My phone is still on the ISP modem wifi. The second LAN port on my minipc is not connected to anything.
    Can you please help?

      You have to port forward. You have to port forward the specified port for Wireguard. This will allow incoming connection requests from the internet to go straight to WireGuard. You cannot avoid port forwarding. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

    Excellent video. I'm a very old neophyte. Now that wireguard is installed in proxmox and on my phone. What do i do next?
    I did port forward my port inputted during the configuration to the jellyfin port in truenas
    Now how do i access the port when i'm away?
    I think you could add an example of this to your current video for completion sake.
    Thank you for the excellent presentation

    • @homelabd
      @homelabd  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hey William! On the wireguard app within your phone, you can create your connection via QR code. You can then scan the QR code that is shown within your wireguard installation on proxmox. Then on the mobile app, all you have to do is toggle on the tunnel and you should be connected to your VPN. I showcase this towards the end of the video. Also, thank you for watching!

      @@homelabd Many Thanks for your time and prompt reply. Didi all of that.. when i open WG on my phone i toggled the icon to the right. OK. Now i'm away what IP address i insert in my phone's google?
      I did the port forwarding on my router
      Again thank you for your help

    • @homelabd
      @homelabd  8 месяцев назад

      @@williambravin1254 Sorry, I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. You don't have to insert any IP address into your phone's web browser. Once you are connected to the VPN, you are done. No further steps needed.
      You can, however, test whether or not you are successfully connected to the VPN. By typing in the IP address of your proxmox server on your phone's preferred browser, you see if you can access your homelab hosted within your network, while you are OUTSIDE the network.
      For instance, while I am abroad I can simply activate my wireguard VPN on my phone, and access my proxmox virtual environment. I would not be able to do this without direct access to my home network.
      This is just an example as there are many use-cases.
      Hopefully that clarifies things.
