  • This is a silent film made by Mr. Arthur David 'Cowboy' Kean that he shot for the town while on location for his feature film in Fort Macleod, Alberta in 1924.
Fort Macleod was celebrating their 50 Year Jubilee on the founding of the town in 1874 along with the establishment of the NWMP in the west. Kean took the time away from his feature film 'Policing the Prairies' to shoot this 12 minute piece for the town.
This rare footage shows early cowboy and native life, a parade and features film of the RCMP playing a game on horseback with a huge 'earth ball'.
The feature film was released and shown only once and the film was lost. A group of men at the end of this short piece were actors from the feature film.
The cowboy riding in and looking at the poster is Jack Downing a.k.a. Jack Boyd one of the actors in Policing the Prairies.
The First Nations people are from the Pakinii Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy I believe.
