I'm sure everybody here is hoping there is a setting that automatically focuses on the fly, but unfortunately not on the T3i. The hardest part is when you are not standing behind the camera and say shooting yourself. you get done shooting, and you are happy, then you look at the footage on your computer and its all out of focus and then you end up frustrated and dont finish the concept at all. TechMindBlow: - Great job on explaining. I didn't know about the "stay under 50 rule".
Your shutter speed should really be approx double your frame rate. So if you're shooting 24fps you should have your shutter speed around 50. This will give it a more film-like look as our eyes are used to seeing something similar. If your shutter speed is too high it's going to actually look too clear and it'll look strange to the eye.
Your instructions are excellent and I'm all set except for my shutter speed adjustment. I try to set it to 1/50 but it flashes between 125th and 160th, then settles on 125th. I than you in advance for your help.
Amy Macedo if you are up close use manual focus and and focus on your subject. The auto focus in my opinion still leaves it out of focus when you zoom in. turn switch to MF and turn the focus ring. hope that helps
I just bought this camera and I'm confused with the focusing. Whats the best option to have it on for good unclose focusing? Do i have to turn the switch from AF to MF? (manual focus) When i press the shutter button half way down, nothing happens.. Help?
You began in the middle of the story. And you assume that your audience already understands what you are talking about. Put a card in your camera to be rid of a distraction. Great video, and a very nice speaking voice . . . I subscribed.
thank you for your good tutorial . can someone tell me please -- on which canon camera possible to do the TRIMMING AND EDITING RIGHT ON THE CAMERA , REAL TIME ON THE SPOT ? no one SHOW it on youtube !!!
noise are purple and green dots on your image, it is not really good, but if it's low it can be corrected. Aperture is like the iris of the camera, the higher the number, the smaller it is allowing less light in and having more in focus. Shutter speed is how fast the camera register the photo (or video) the higher the number, less light is registered and it results in less blur.
i just got my first camera and yes it's a little old but nonetheless i want to get good with it before i move up to get a better camera later on down the road. i have a problem and i really need your help well i have a canon ds126151 400d it's 14 years old iy came out 2006 and it's a 10.1 mega pixel camera i charge the battery for 2 hours and put the battery in i took 4 pictures and it said to recharge the battery and i just put that battery in so does that mean i need to get 2 new batteries from amazon cause these batteries i have now are no more good cause i want to be able to take pictures for a very long period of time instead of a few minutes please help me out
Thanks so much for the video! I understand you are shooting the video in Manual mode. However, I am unable to change the aperture settings on the screen and when I change the ISO settings, it throws this error "this function is not available in auto expo movie setting". Would really appreciate if you can help me fix these issues on my Canon. Thanks a ton!!
Looks like the kit 18-55 lens. Good for beginners, cheap, but after a while you will get dust under the glass. Its common and hardly affects the image, but if you have a sun flare it will be noticeable
This is a really good tutorial. I have been having some issues with my T3i but the one I wanted to ask you about is focusing. How do you make sure your subjects are in focus when shooting b-roll? You can manually focus before you start recording but when they move and are no longer in focus; you can't use the plus/minus zoom options to make sure your subjects are focused again. How do you compensate for that?
+Lena Hale Pulling focus, especially when also operating the camera, is the hard part of filming. In productions you actually have one person just for the focus pulling alone. Always use manual focus, and practise focusing while moving a lot. You can always use a higher f-stop, but then you will need more light, or higher ISO.
But if the frame rate is the same how does shutter speed affect motion blur? I understand that it's letting in less late the faster it's going because overall there was more time with the shutter closed. But the frame rate is still the same. The subject was still move around the frame the same amount of time. So why does it affect motion blur?
Is it possible to record video in M mode? or shall u be in the (Camera symbol) mode?? :D! My Camera will just shutdown + turn on the Little red light when i hit the record button. I call it red light shutdown! it´s when i try to record in M mode!...? thx
+Jerome Cat M is only Manual pictures. Only mode that shoots videos is the Video mode on the dial. Also, a common problem on T3i's is when you hit record for a video, it starts, then staops and says "recording has been stopped automatically". Happens to me once in awhile, then i just hit it again and it works. Or, make sure you are using a Class-10 SD Card. Lastly, you can shoot in video mode with Manual Focus as opposed to Auto Focus if you wish.
Excuse me i use the same camera but the video quality seems to be downgraded when I import it onto a video editing software I can see the pixels and all that can you give me suggestions on why that is. I was thinking maybe its the SD card.
Ugh everything is still blurry on my camera ☹️ I’ve had this camera for years, video mode always blurry but it will focus for pics. Really need it as a webcam now😞
my camera screen doesnt look like yours when I turn it on.how do I get my camera screen to look like yours at the beginning? at :35 how do I get my camera to show those iso numbers my camera tells me it cant show that in movie shooting.
Kari Turner If you go into Menu the first wrench (idk if thats the right word lol) or the second to last settings box should have a list that starts with "AUTO POWER, AUTO ROTATE, FORMAT, FILE NUMBERING... etc" If you click "Auto Powder" It is probably set to like 30 sec or a minute or something. If you click that, you can turn it off.
+V-Way Hmmmm....Misread question & you getting your life from it??? Clearly you know what increasing your F-stop does since you commenting. So for you NOT to interpret the the fact that the inquiry was misread and took the time out to comment has got to be the most ignoramus thing I've heard in the new year! FUCK OFF! I'm NOT the one!
Thank you. I purchased a Canon EOS T3i, both body and lens, case and charger, with a basic lens, for 200 dollars. It seemed like a great deal, until I saw the "No card in camera". I am hip to aperture, ISO and shutter speed but I didn't know how to change them in movie mode on the Canon T3i. Good video.
saw this comment so I know this video is worth watching. I'm trying to figure how to adjust those now in video. Its clear when shooting photography.
I appreciate you jumping right into it. Left a like!

awsome tutorial. helped me a lot. Thanks
Thanks for the helpful video. I've used my t3i for all my videos. Thanks for helping me learn how to do that better.
Your instructions are excellent and I'm all set except for my shutter speed adjustment.
I try to set it to 1/50 but it flashes between 125th and 160th, then settles on 125th.
I than you in advance for your help.
This is WAY above my understanding- can you recommend any tutorials created for complete novices?
+Angela Schans I'm with YOU! Have you found good beginner videos yet?

I wonder if she "is" still using this camera? Her videos are awesome!!
Omg i love you 🥺
Great tutorial. I have a question, when video recording, does it auto focus? How would you set it to auto focus?
just touch the shutter button, it will make a lot of noise and focus in and out for at least a whole second before focusing.
SeanDaPaulSeh thanks. I'm slowly learned more about the camera over time.
Understood everything completely. Thank you good sir!

lol i dont know anything of photography. words like iso, noise, aperture, shutter speed are alien to me :(

omg nevermind
Emily Corveas I had the same question. Why didn't he show which button is movie mode.
Lol
How do you though
Trust me I need to know how to get onto movie mode too
The shutter speed should be double the frame rate, also don't over-expose using ISO.
What lens were you using?

So, for 24fps the best shutter speed is at 50. How about for 30fps? 1/60?
Yes Double the FPS
Why does my camera (same as yours) always say 'movie stopped recording automatically" whenever I use 1920 24fps?
Jess T what is the best HD settings for canon 600D. Thank you. Please reply
It's your SD card. upgrade your SD card
When i film myself my face gets blurry if im far away.. How do i keep it clear?
+HelloChany This has to do with the focus of the lens. You'll have to refocus the lens on your face.
