    Great job on the van build. And you have to take time off every now and then. Can't wait to see the finished product. Ride Safe

    It will all be worth it. My Dad was “ that’s good enough “didn’t work with him. 5th grade education but he could do most anything Smartest man I ever knew.
    Looking forward to the finished van. Keep on keeping on.

    My thought was also to trim off the top of the vent instead of trying to notch the underside of your flooring. Brian, dude you need a carpenter, but then again it is not the same satisfaction as doing it yourself. This is getting to be more of a "what NOT to do" video. I do admire your determination.

    • @LifeontheBlacktop
      @LifeontheBlacktop  Год назад +2

      Unfortunately the vent needs to spin to direct the airflow. I was able to kind of chisel out the lid and I'll do the same to the flooring probably. I'll update this weekend probably.

    I totally get where you're at- you've got over analysis paralysis or FOMO. You just want to make sure you are thinking everything out and placing everything in just the right places so you don't have regrets about the placement later. Stick with it! It is turning out really good and you know you are gonna love traveling in it when it's done. just think about relaxing outside the van at Sturgis later this year. It looks really great, and makes me want to get a van too!

  • @hookdog8640

    Trim the vent. It doesn't need to rotate. Set it in a fixed position.

    • @LifeontheBlacktop
      @LifeontheBlacktop  Год назад

      Unfortunately it does need to rotate. I trimmed the lid and it went well, gonna have to do the same with the floor but you shouldn't see it when it's done. I hope haha

      It's definitely starting to come together. Every project has its own "ugh, I have to do this before I can do that" scenario. It's starting to get warm here so I'm hoping to use my new AC soon 😎

    Brian...let me give you some feel better info- you guys arent alone...my wife and I have been building a tiny shed/cabin for 7 years, yes thats right ....7 YEARS and we STILL arent finished! So I FEEL your pain....I have personally built 2 homes over my life( hired 70% of the labor) and they were WAY easier than this small off the cuff cabin! AS with you guys...there are MANY learning curves and designs/redesigns for almost the entire build ESPECIALLY the solar and electrical plus plumbing! BUT...the biggest culprit of it all was the room to work!!!! SMALL = PAIN, FRUSTRATION AND TIME!!!! Of course money did play into it as well....built out of pocket so limited on the cash each year and that hindered as well....BUT when you are done, and you will be one day....chalk it up to an ADVENTURE!!!! lol.....keep going you WILL WIN!!!! And the laughs will be with you guys forever...the pains will fade....at least most of them...LOL...Steve

    Shoot some brad nails into the last piece you showed with the glue and tape. And Also I would consider putting a small piece of rubber between your aluminum framing and your water tanks because once you fill the tank it's going to expand and be rubbing on the aluminum framing. Other than that you're doing a fine job

    For your 5/8 id hose , could you not use automotive heater hose? Flexible and rated for heat in case the relief pops.

      Ultimately I decided I wanted it to be potable in case I over filled the tank and water got up into the hose.

    I love how Brian has given himself a date to finish.......and then didn't share the date 😂. A pin nailer would have made life a lot easier to hold that mitre while the glue was drying. kinda surprised you're using titebond II instead III, the III also sets up a bit quicker in colder temps.

    • @LifeontheBlacktop
      @LifeontheBlacktop  Год назад

      Yeah that date has come and gone lol. New one set though! I went out and bought a brad nailer and a finish nailer after this. I don't have many wood tools and don't really want to buy some but the rest of my cabinet work is gonna need em. I used 2 on this cuz it sets up quicker. Mostly I've been using 3 for the water resistance. Welp, back to work so I don't miss another deadline lol.
