- Hey everyone, back with this song that I recorded a while ago.
This is the first song that Guns n' Roses wrote as a band and it is definitely one of the best ballads of all time. It holds a special place in my heart too as I played this song live almost a year ago and sang terribly. I need to make up for that loss in this video I guess. I am dedicating this ballad to all of you who are trying to stay strong at the worst of times and feel like things will never change. But trust me, they do! :)
This song has notes as low as G2 and as high as D#5, no one can sing this song half as good as Axl does. It is a testament to his colossal vocal range. I AM NOT A BARITONE! But I've tried my best to sing those low notes which are almost out of my vocal range.
I haven't spent much time mixing the song. I chose two different guitar tones, right one for arpeggios and left one for chord strumming. Panned them hard left and right.
For vocals, I have used this new condenser microphone called MXL 990 (can't thank you enough Anugrah for lending me this beauty) which isn't available in India. It is 100$ microphone but is way too good for it's price. Just a compressor and some reverb, nothing fancy.

This is the best solo work of Don't Cry that I have heard so far. I have been listening to this song for over 30 year now I think... ever since it was released. You are good at it though you can't take it that high a range. Great work within your vocal range. Awesome.

why did you switch to the 990 from the cm25
I haven't switched exactly, the 990 is a gift from my friend and was lying around with no use so I thought to put it to test in this video. CM25 is a really awesome mic though.
