I only wish I had the opportunity to hear and see this music magician at work when he was alive. I had the pleasure of meeting Dextor Gordon Panama when i started playing in high school. This is the sound i try to emulate. Art, you are truly missed but never forgotten. I easily listen to you 2 to 3 times a week. Rest easy brotha. I know my mom and dad can hear you now. Amen
I was taken by this man and his horn playing, and all so sad when they announced on the radio he pass away, I couldn't believe it me and my husband had just seen him in concert like two months before.a very beautiful horn player God bless your soul and rest in peace.❣️❤️❣️❤️😍
Thanks so much for uploading this incredible performance of Art. He undoubtedly IS art🎷. Whenever I listen to his CDs, I can sense that his music is composed from the depths his heart, and it feels as though he's playing just for me. I saw him in concert a couple of times, and I had "personally" never, and still haven't, ever seen anyone blow two saxes simultaneously. There are several jazz musicians who rank high on the list (John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Grover Washington, etc), but Art Porter, Jr had become my ultimate favorite. I had even become a member of his fan club. My heart was broken when he passed away. He is truly missed.
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST CLARINET PERFORMANCES THAT HAS EVER BEEN RECORDED, AND I'M 73 YRS. OLD! ART PORTER IF YOU WERE STILL HERE WITH US.....YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN NOMINATED AS ONE OF THE GREATEST CLARINET PLAYERS IN THE JAZZ WORLD! YOUR STYLE IS SORELY MISSED IN THE PERFORMING JAZZ FIELD!!!
Yvette. I get your message. However, as a friend in music. Art played Soprano sax, easily mistaken for a clarinet. That was my hardest sax to learn due the small mouthpiece and precise embossure required to play it. Be blessed.
OMG, what a ballet, what passion! He just pours his heart out. Now I can see why he was truly respected by his fellow musician's for his incredible ability. R.I.P my brother.
Arthur was a musical stylist and rounded entertainer who always gave above his very best. He seemed to have had a most gracious and friendly personality which manifested itself during his musical performances. Herein, Art gave not a little; he never held back despite the hymnodic and pastoral nature of the piece. With notes ascending and descending jubilantly in repetitive deliberation during his extemporaneous conversation, Arthur treated us to a taste of Circular Breathing for which Rahsaan Roland Kirk was famous. As Arthur Porter, Jr. rests assuredly in the sacred and sanctified bosom of Almighty, we are gratified to have known and loved him - many on account of the wonderful legacy he left us through his great musical performances and presentation.
Such a beautiful comment. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you & to the family of the late, great unsung artist, Mr. Art Porter Jr. He left us music that we'll cherish forever. Bless you and all
This is a bittersweet video because it's one of his best performances, but it's also the year he died in a boating accident. He died a few months later.
I remember Art at Schaumburg Denai Alexander WNUA this guy made me fall in love with him. His artistry his beautiful looks and figure. I was crazy bout this man. He could dance his butt off too! He was too much (chuckling). Honey when he would be playing as he went off stage oh lawd! Chicago in the House! Love you baby!
+Christy Dillard You can download a free software package online somewhere which can filter the music out of the video in mp3. Just try to google it;-) Cheers. Jur
rickames he drowned i a over turned fairboat in Thailand. Didn't know how to swim. I was listening to KBLX in the bayarea on the road when it came across the radio. I was so so sad of such a loss for all who listen to jazz. I'm tear as I write this.
