Love this game so much. I brought it randomly and was blown away. I mean, 1st person sword fighting, able to brain jack diff. characters with different weapons and stats. And multiple choice and endings. Honestly *chef's kiss* plus music was banging
I played it when it first came out. I knew it was weird and cool, but didn't know about SMT at the time. I was in the Navy on a ship at the time, so we really just played a LOT of Spawn: The Demon's Hand multiplayer. Good times. What's your favorite Dreamcast game?
Very nicely done video essay, your script in particular was very informative while keeping a great pace and you handled analysis of the game's religious theming and symbolism exceptionally well. I really hope SMT V helps bring content creators like you into a wider audience, you deserve way more subs.
Never knew the Hakke were each associated with one of eight aspects of daoism, nor that Kitty's womb was her sacrifice, and I like this game enough that I did some real digging... Fantastic work, お疲れ様。

@@petrock4041 I hope part 2 delves deeper into the symbolisms and analysis of the game cuz I really liked how deeply woven the game gets with taoism and Chinese myth especially if you take into account the manga and Japanese version as well where their proper names are used. The manga was a really excellent adaptation that expands on the story perspective greatly and was praised highly by the original creators and builds the world a lot more considering how much is missing context wise without the original Japanese imho.
great analysis and video, looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the gameplay itself. I played this game about a little over a year ago and I'm glad I did. It somehow cemented itself in my top 5 favorites. Also, best Meguro OST imo
Sir thank you for doing this. I stumbled across Maken X a few years ago and I was fascinated by its presentation though as you can imagine its difficult to hunt down any good info on it and the game's presence on youtube is lacking significantly. So imagine my surprise that there is a video that does a deep dive into its story and brings up subjects that are definately unique for an Atlus game (and I would argue for gaming in general) You earn a like for your efforts sir.

MXA follows the games plot very loosely though it does give some fascinating background on some of the characters and what people could actually do with their Image if well trained in it. The story overall is kinda "eh" in my opinion, but certainly worth a look.
Late reply: Was going to make a video for each of the little things, but i lost my passion for video making and decided against it. Maybe one day I’ll come back and finish it, but don’t bet on it.

This is so eerie coming out now. I just started my run through Maken X on my Dreamcast. First level was pretty sweet and got me hooked into it.
