Great reaction. It's hard to respond on first hearing. On top of the voice he's such a storyteller, such a top notch arranger, so many details. He's taken a song that was fairly monotonous and made it fixating.
I've watched lots of reactors, but you, my friend, are becoming a favorite of mine. I usually only like to watch first time reactors who have never heard of Geoff or Voice Play, but I keep coming back to yours anyway. I love your transparency, analysis, and heart-warming and funny comments as you listen - being a bass yourself is also cool - so you know what you're listening to. Keep it up man. Thanks for this!
Due to all the venues being booked, this was done in the basement of PattyCake Productions studio which is co-owned by Layne who is the beatboxer for VoicePlay. It isn’t nearly as empty as it appears. They were surrounded by “stuff”. This was a shoestring operation: Kathy, his wife, was the entire crew. He used the same tools, borrowed from his dad‘s tool shed, that he did in 16 Tons . At the very end , the second Geoff picks up his pickax and pounds it on the ground just like in 16 Tons and the camera wavered just as it did in 16 Tons The original singer was Jimmy Dean of sausage fame. And it is entirely spoken except for the chorus of “big John whoa whoa big bad John.” The last part where “ghost Geoff “is speaking has a lot more impact than the original. I grew up hearing that song as my grandfather worked in a coal mine and narrowly escaped being caught in the cave in. But this is a far better rendition, at least in my opinion. By the way you were missed. You have a lot of catching up to do!! I don’t see that you’ve done a reaction of their Dragonborn comes,/Skyrim. It’s another epic one! And it was followed up by Layne’s arrangement of We don’t talk about Bruno. Typical of Layne, there’s a lot of humor.
Glad you're back, I really enjoy your reactions to Geoff and to Voiceplay. Hope you are well soon, and the internship goes well! In your spare time (like you have any, right?), please react to more Voiceplay. Their work gets more and more amazing!
I have seen literally dozens of different reactors assess his voice. To a person, each reactor almost loses it when first they hear his astounding range, especially his lower spectrum. You are wonderful. Your earnest reactions are much appreciated.
Loved the Jimmy Dean show. Yes, I'm showing my age. Also, love how Geoff tweaked it just enough to make it his own. Just like he did with Sixteen Tons.
So happy you're back, we missed you! I love your reactions, especially to Geoff and Voiceplay. I for one would be interested in hearing about your internship. Again, glad you're back!
One other bass singer I have to suggest is Tomi Pizúr. Some of my favourites from him are My Mother Told Me, Lullaby of Woe, No Time to Die and much more
I grew up with the original song.........if they have the food product in your country,...look for 'Jimmy Dean" sausage products.........SAME Jimmy Dean, that recorded this in '61! His recording is more 'spoken' han 'sung', his voice was in a different range, an he focused more on the story of the song with the empotion in his voice,........I love Geoff, but he needs the 'emotion' in his vocals.......listen to the original song, compare the 2 versions. Geoff focuses on his Musicianship, and his vocals, more so possibly than the emotions, and what this particular story means....great job though, but as always, 'life' is a work in progress.....>^^

This is one of those days where we say he could be reading poetry and would be enthralling. Geoff is a special case.
Glad your back. Missed you. Don't forget new Home Free and Tim Foust solo stuff!!!

I’m hoping the next Voiceplay is The Dragonborn Comes-I don’t think you’ve done that. You’re going to love it.
This gem was released in I believe it was 1961 by Jimmy Dean. Geoff's cover is fabulous. Absolute ear candy.
He's amazing, I've never heard a voice that deep before.
Great reaction with Geoff you got a new subscriber yay keep going with Geoff and voice play love it
Thanks. Nice reaction. :)

C.Jay.. Very good! Thanks. )
You have no right to miss the cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song". Make us happy, please. )
if I had see big bad john I would have had run for the hills
In the original by Jimmy Dean he was mostly talking In the song.
You may like Tim Foust and Home Free also. I love them and Voice Play and Pentatonix.
wait till you see the contrast between this and voiceplays latest!❤️🏴
Check out the original, Jimmy Dean 1961 hit #1 on the Country and #1 crossover rock and roll chart and he told a story instead of singing.
If you like Geoff, be sure to check out Tim Foust, bass singer for Home Free
Hey there sir.. where you been?? Missing your reactions!!😔😔
Busy days lol (soon though) (hopefully)
Awesome. Was hoping you were okay😉😉
Check out Little Jimmy Dickens- Raggedy Ann
I use that same vocal app!
Could I ask what vocal app you use?
Vocal pitch monitor by TadaoYamaoka. Have fun!
you like bas try home free ring of fire i thank youll love it or try his version of the headles hunt
Love your reactions but if you have a chance listen to Geoff Monster Mash
Please react to misty mountains from the wellermen with so many bass singers actually best version imo
The original by Jimmy Dean was a speaking song just like this - with even less musical backing. Geoff's version a bit better.
Please do a reaction video of " Voice Plays Promotional Video" it is awesome. Thank you for all your great reactions.

I prefer a Paul downing or jd summers, who's natural speaking voices were c 1
I'm a big fan of the original recording, so this is somewhat disappointing.
