Here is the Limited Edition of ”Alice in Wonderland” published by The Folio Society. The book is limited to 1000 copies and it’s illustrated by Charles van Sandwyk.
    ABOUT THE BOOK:
”Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, or shortened, ”Alice in Wonderland” was written by the English writer & mathematician Lewis Carroll in 1865.
The story follows the young girl Alice and her extraordinaire experiences in Wonderland.
”The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.” [1]
I was absolutely amazed when I first read this book and buying this limited edition copy was not a hard decision to make after reading it. It really plays with your imagination and the dreamlike, nonsense state which this fantasy novella takes place in reminds me a lot of dreams and how the lack of logic makes things a bit wacky. The writing is simple and flows nicely. I highly recommend it to anyone, big and small!
    BINDING & PAPER:
    From the book:
"This edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been composed in Founders Caslon types at The Folio Society and printed on Ambassador Cream Twin-wire laid by Smith Settle, Yeadon, West Yorkshire. The plates and the scraps have been printed on Olin silk paper by Napier Jones, London. The limited edition etching has been hand-printed under the artist's supervision by New Leaf Editions, Vancouver, Canada, on Somerset velvet buff 100% cotton mouldmade paper, and mounted on Hahnemühle Bugra Butten.
The endpapers have been printed letterpress on Bugra Butten by the Logan Press, Wellingborough, Northants. The book has been hand-bound in vellum blocked in 22-carat gold, with vellum tips and Freelife Merida sides, by Smith Settle. The edition is limited to 1000 copies, signed and numbered by the artist on the etching, and thirty copies numbered in roman numerals, which are hors commerce."
That sums up the book very good. The quality is of course absolutely top of the top. No doubt about that. Same with the wonderful illustrations by van Sandwyk.
    The size is 13" x 9¾” or 33 cm x 25,5 cm.
    CONTENT:
This book is lovingly illustrated by the Canadian artist Charles van Sandwyk. It has eleven coloured, tipped in plates and a bunch of other black & white illustrations and coloured ”scraps”.
It also contains notes from the publisher (Folio Society) and notes from the author. The book is of course divided by chapters.

Wooh… I have spent lots of time the past two days to get this video finished for today. I’m happy with how it ended up, and you can probably see that I have ”experimented” with some new style and editing elements. I wanted to give this book a fair treatment so I really went all out. I really hope this video was enjoyable and helpful. Please(!) like and/or comment! Any feedback on this video is HIGHLY appreciated (since I don’t know if it’s worth spending hours on one video like I did on this one).
If you haven’t subscribed and want to see more Folio Society videos in the future, then make sure to subscribe!

I want to order one, but i don't have the cash for it. I don't think many people realize that books can be so much more than words on a page, that they can be things of beauty, in and of themselves. I'm planning to do "book care" videos in the very near future! But otherwise, if you are planning to store the book only to preserve it, then I would keep it out of all sunlight/and other light, and keep it in a dust-free space. The room temperature should (optimally) be around 16 - 20 C (around 60 - 70 F) with a humidity around 40 - 50%. Hope that helps! :)

Incidentally, the newest Lovecraft LE which is available for pre-order now (going live on the website tomorrow, I believe), is bound in artificial leather precisely because the artist who worked on illustrations and binding design is a vegan objecting to use of animal products.

I've only recently learned about the Folio books after finding YT videos featuring some artists who have created illustrations for some of them. So naturally I am "late to the party" (a mad tea party, it seems). Many of these books seem so lovely and striking, like the Lovecraft one ... it leaves me with a sad feeling because things like this are simply yet another little treasure in life that I can only covet. :) Plus, I think I am mildly fussy because as I watch this video unfold my mind is blurting out "Why isn't he wearing white gloves to handle this fantastic item?" :D Yes, a bit extreme, I admit.
It appears that a lot of these books have vellum included in them, and I wonder if this is rendered from actual young or even unborn calf. It pains me to think that such ugly processes are still in use-- that is, if I'm correct in my assumption. Surely there are other supplies that can be used as a substitute. And, I know, I am on a soap-box here; this is something I rarely do but I felt compelled.
Anyway, I do appreciate your videos sharing what these fantastic items are like. It really is the next best thing to getting a genuine look at them myself.
    Best regards from USA.

Thanks for watching! :-) The best thing about limited editions is that they usually don't drop far below their original price after they have sold out. This of course depends on the supply and demand which depends on limitation, artist, how many books that still are in good condition, how popular the author is at the time, etc.
Books like these could possible rise in value over the next years also, just like the LE of The Wind in the Willows, which was also illustrated by van Sandwyk.

Thanks! The thing is that I only purchase books that I personally want and never books that I think others would want (because then I'd only buy Harry Potter and LOTR books! Haha :-)) My channel is very niche and very centered around the Folio Society and deluxe editions do tend to be more expensive than "non-deluxe" editions. My main goal with the channel is to help others make purchases; and books that are more affordable tend to not need that extra description of a video review.
BUT, that being said, if I buy a beautiful book that I think deserves a video review then I will of course share it on my channel. I hope you understand! :-)
