    Hi there,
    how did you build the bracket for the LED strips? Are these simply aluminum square profiles? What about the expansion in height?
    Thank you very much.
    best regards
    Martin

      Hi Martin, in this version I used a bookcase end as a base. The led support was a stick coated in an aluminium looking vinyl wrap. So a very basic build. In this case it was more so I had something to use when doing upgrades. There are some very nice led aluminium channels that can be found on Ebay now

    I am definitely going to make this soon, I've already made a similar project but that uses Processing with my direct PC output. So I'll implement that in this code with some sick patterns, keep going and thanks a lot!

    Good job I have served as a base, and made the stereo and eliminated the void Twinkle since it does not let me pass the 46 leds? . and added some more cases and working with 60 LEDs, I hope some time to upload it, congratulations from Ecuador.

    It's really a beautiful work again. I only have a small question. I've realized that you don't have the rainbow effect in this script as you did with the other scripts! Is there a reason why you've left it out? is it possible to bring it back and also put it in the cycle list? once more thank you for sharing these great UV examples and sharing it with us. cheers

    Hi and fantastic work. Thanks for sharing your projects with us. I'm just getting into the world of Arduino and 2812b leds. Is this strip your using a 144 led /m ?

    • @cine-lights

      modelmanmark Hii.. yes it is. Most of my vu meter projects use the 144m versions of the strip as they give a smoother animation.

    Yet another excellent video of my favorite Arduino + WS2812 vu meter. I would also like to have the pot for brightness and maybe a rotary encoder and not the push bottom for selecting program..?
    Must say I really love this build!💓💓💓

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  7 лет назад +3

      lol.. i was thinking of using a rotary encoder. but using the button for pattern selection, and encoder for brightness., now my coding is so so.. my issue, is i am using both the Fastled and neopixel library together, and the set brightness code is done differently. So im thinking maybe of using the rotary encoder for patterns, and push button for brightness.. but in steps. so, 20,40,60,80,100 % brightness ?.... ok give me a little time and i will see what i can do :)

    • @Padde298
      @Padde298 7 лет назад +1

      Cine-Lights My kudos to your coding abilities! Looking forward to the update. (encoder is in the mail).
      What about making a down scaled version with less programs so it will run on the Nano? I know you have some issues with digital noise...

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  7 лет назад +2

      Peter R. Poulsen Hi Peter, the arduino uno version will run on the nano as it has the same memory. I may look into that again and see if there is a way round it. maybe use the 5v on the mic instead of the 3v. I've managed to find some old encoders so will see what I can do.

  • @uktoker71
    @uktoker71 7 лет назад

    Why are you using both the Adafruit NeoPixel library and the FastLED Library? Surely it is just wasting memory and everything can be done just using FastLED.

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  7 лет назад

      uktoker71 Hi, the patterns use the fastled library. And the vu meters use the neopixel library. This has been mentioned before, my coding skills only go so far. Rewriting the code to save a little memory is out of my comfort zone. By all means your more than welcome to give it a go. Would love to see the finished product.

  • @javierpallalorden

    Very nice update, big thanks!
    Could you please add a potentiometer for a general brightness setting, those neopixels are sometimes just too bright.
    And please keep the selection button, it is very convenient.

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Javier, I agree. as i mentioned i had forgotten just how bright they were. its been gathering dust for over a year, I was looking at making a better base. The original housed an arduino uno, so had to do a lot of hacking to get the mega in it. I have had a request before about adding a potentiometer. Its something i have not looked into as i tend to diffuse the leds and adjust the brightness in the code. As i will be further updating it, i will look into a way of adding one.

    How many LED's are you using on this?

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  7 лет назад

      Hi Chris, I am using half a strip of 144 leds a metre, so 72. I have built simular using the 60 leds a metre but it tends to look jumpy. 144 Leds a metre looks much smoother. Obviously more leds equals bigger power supply. i run this on a 5 volts 5 amp supply without any issues.
      Can not believe the last time i played around with this vu meter was over a year ago, and still get enquiries about it. so main reason for the update. The build needs a little work - so i am sure it will get another update very soon.

    • @ladnekjc

      Cine-Lights Thanks, I have a meter of 144 leds and a mega on order, it's this or your flame lamp......

    • @cine-lights
      @cine-lights  7 лет назад

      The build is much the same, So uses the same mic and setup. As a lamp its pretty cool, But you lose quite alot of the detail of the Vu meter and some of the other patterns. But the fire effects look really good. well if you have a metre of 144 leds.. you could make both lol. i highly recommend the adafruit mics, i have not yet found another mic that works as well. But if i had to make a choice, i would go with the lamp. i do use it every night. I may remake it one day and try and find a taller frosted glass cover.

      Hi, thanks. Ir control is probably thr worst form of control as it doesn't work very well with the ws2812b leds, as they do not like interrupts. The more leds used the more problems you have. I have made one with Bluetooth in one.of my other videos.

      Semtex199 Hi, I'm afraid this update and any further update will be for the arduino mega. The old uno version maxed at on its memory with around 60 leds, so if using a 144 leds a metre strip then it was quite small. Also the arduino mega have dropped quite considerably in price since I first made this vu meter which is almost 2 years ago. I will be doing some further updates in time.

      Long Hai Hi, I haven't used those Leds before., unlike the ws2812b strips I use which are 5 volt and require only one data connection. yours are 12 volt and require a data and clock connection. I am sure with a little editing of the code you should be able to get them to work.

      hayden joseph you could use it in the car. If you used a converter to drop cars 12 volts to 5v it should be ok. You could use 12v inputs but arduino outputs only 2amps so limits length of leds.

    Hello , I'm very impressed how your VU works and trying to include your code in project with ESP8266 / Wemos D1 mini.
    Primary reason is that I need to add nice jQuery interface to it and to be able to command it via WiFi.
    However Uno_VU compiled and worked without a problem on Wemos , the Mega_VU did not :( And I like Mega VU's smoother performance compared to Uno_VU
    The main reason is some parts of code related to FastLED library which you declare at the beginning :
    // Modes
    enum
    {
    } MODE;
    bool reverse = true;
    And the error in compiler is :
    C:\ArduinoData\packages\esp8266\hardware\esp8266\2.3.0\cores\esp8266/core_esp8266_noniso.c:47: multiple definition of `reverse'
    sketch\Mega_Vu.ino.cpp.o:(.data.reverse+0x0): first defined here
    .......
    size of symbol `reverse' changed from 1 in sketch\Mega_Vu.ino.cpp.o to 25 in C:\AppData\Local\Temp\arduino_build_653217/arduino.ar(core_esp8266_noniso.c.o)
    ......
    collect2.exe: error: ld returned 1 exit status
    Could you please collaborate about what exactly set this boolean what is connection with FasLed library and is it possible to make it compile even if I need to set it hardcode in library itself.
    Thank you! Any comment appreciated

      @cine-lights  7 лет назад

      Hi Nikolay, Both The arduino uno and mega versions of code are almost the same. The only difference is the mega has more vu meter patterns and standyby patterns due to having more memory. most people wished to use upto 60 leds ( 1 metre ) of leds and the uno maxed out at 60 leds. So i moved into the mega. The reverse line in the code is for the Water torture pattern. Most patterns in the code will start from the bottom. in this case it starts from the top., if this is the only problem that is preventing it to compile. Then you could remove this line and also edit the menu to remove it completely .. you could remove rgb.h, rgb_operator.h, and water torture.h too as these are for the same pattern. It is defined or named "Drip"
      REMOVE The menu item and adjust case numbers:
      case 22:
      buttonPushCounter==22; {
      Drip(); //
      break;}
      AND Drip from the gpatterns list.. leaving all the rest :
      // List of patterns to cycle through. Each is defined as a separate function below.
      typedef void (*SimplePatternList[])();
      SimplePatternList gPatterns = {ripple, ripple2, Twinkle, pattern2, juggle2, pattern3, blur, Balls, Drip, fireblu, fire};
      uint8_t gCurrentPatternNumber = 0; // Index number of which pattern is current
      AND all THIS :
      void Drip()
      {
      MODE_WATER_TORTURE:
      if (cycle())
      {
      strip.setBrightness(255); // off limits
      water_torture.animate(reverse);
      strip.show();
      //strip.setBrightness(brightness); // back to limited
      }
      }
      bool cycle()
      {
      if (paused)
      {
      return false;
      }
      if (millis() - lastTime >= cycleMillis)
      {
      lastTime = millis();
      return true;
      }
      return false;
      }
      Remove The line you are having problems with :
      // Modes
      enum
      {
      } MODE;
      bool reverse = true;
      You should now have everything working. just without the water torture animation.

      @MrBahura 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the fast reply strange without this bool compile but doesn't light pixels at all. It willbe hard to switch it to esp8266 but is worthy . I thought it is some fade definition cause uno code compiled and worked but some kind flickering not so smooth I have also and Mega 2560 on it work perfect. May the different ADC in both board be the problem wemos dont support analogReference either....
