I agree on the need for a ballast that prioritizes portability. I shoot a lot of corporate interviews and reducing setup time and the amount of gear on set really helps with my work. I would love to see an Amaran 4x4 mat that breaks down into a compact case and won't take up too much room on my cart.
At first glance of pricing, it makes more sense to get two 2x4 instead of the the 4x4. It's less expensive and the ballasts are smaller. I don't know if they are quieter. The advantage of the 4x4 is not needing to buy another ballast if you upgrade. A 2x4 seems feasible for smaller production companies if the added convenience makes sense.
I've been a big fan of flex LED lights over traditional bowens lights + modifiers due to their massive reduction in foot print - but this price point seems really challenging. If you're looking at a permanent setup in a studio - a Fotodiox Skyfiller gets you a round 36" light like an octobox but with the same depth as a flex mat LED light and it's just ~$700 right now - the RGB version on sale is sold out so it's only available for 1.2k but still 36" RGB for a quarter of the price. It'd weigh more because it's a solid back folding LED vs. a mat - but the ballast seems much more manageable.
at 11:10 I was surprised that the entire studio is purple but the light itself is still so white. I mean, that must be so bright that it saturates the sensor, I guess
Thanks for making videos about lights! Aputure are producing brilliant equipment… these Infimats are an awesome alternative to extremely expensive LiteTiles and LiteMats. I’ve been progressively shifting away from ARRI, Rosco and Astera and going in 100% with Aputure’s alternatives. They make a better, cleaner package with a simple and brilliant app for fast lighting changes on set. So good.
I think it makes way more sense to get some Intellitech Mega 3.0 Litecloth’s. I think their Mega 8FC that’s 3x5, full RGB, and also has G/M correction, and it’d going for about $2000? You can get two and save $1000 in comparison to the Infinimat. I thought this was a great product until you said the price. $5000 is wild.
I think you could use a spotlight on the floor and then use the CLRS Lightbridge, Dedo Lightstream, or Godox Liteflow systems to get the same look. Maybe even better looking due to the inverse square law by having the light source further away with a smaller footprint. It might cost less too!
@@Cinegavo Yup. I picked up the Godox 100x100 with flightcase on sale for $2250! Also, you could do the Hard bodu Soft face look with a single light too.
Led or fluorescent tube panels are also very flat and soft. And rugged. So the only advantage to these is they’re lightweight? What happens if it’s punctured? Can you sleep on it between takes? Can you fill it with helium and float it over the set?
Dude, the light is basically in the same spot as the previous 600, since the height of the space. That size of Infinimat is not really a handy space saver. :) That said, I like the new Aputure concept for a narrative shoot in certain situations.
Gerald is the most based youtuber when it comes to paid content. All the other RUclipsrs need to take notes instead of whining and crying when they get called out.
Hey Gerald. Can you start with one panel and then add more as needed? 4x4 is great but I might like to be able to break up that configuration into 2x2’s or 1x1’s depending on the gig. Also, if split, can I plug the lights into the side of the ballast with additional cords? Thanks!
No the four panels velcroed on to the back of the mattress are all stitched and wired together as one piece. That makes them all powered by one power cable to the control box.
So the 4x 4 uses (up to) 800watts. But you said the 8 x8 would only be 1600 watts - or did you mean 8x4 and I only assumed the square dimensions? Because an 8 x 8 square should be 3200 watts if the 4 x 4 is 800. Yeah, you must've meant 8 x4..
No, the 8x8 is only 1600. Four 4x4s would require 2x 1600w ballasts. Not sure why they did it that way, but that's how it works. So two 4x4s while smaller have the same output of an 8x8.
Can you make a review of that lightmeter? Or maybe a range of different lightmeters, because this one is rather expensive and I'd be curious if it's really necessary. I'd also love to learn about the different features in an undone style. ✌🏻 P.s. Great video!
That big old soft box looks really, really good. If that old set-up has fit in your place for this long, I would get your money back from this expensive thing and keep the better look of the old light.
godox makes an excellent flexible panel light of the same size. 600w with a more powerful one coming. Its heavier and more like a litmat 8 head. bi color, 1200 bucks
Godox F600Bi is good alternative for this one. I used it in my studio for exaclty the same reasons Gerald switched to the mat. Although I wish Aputure included me in this campaign :D - Infinimat ...
I discovered the 20x20 infinimat a few weeks ago and showed it to my film class and now everyone is trying to figure out how we can get 80 grand to buy it (as a joke)
Very nice! GodoxF600bi is a lot cheaper. Very similar profile. A little harder to setup I think. I was running into the issue of wanting a really large softbox but needing to implement it in small spaces. Plus I can't get through doors with the COB and softbox. Can't wait to use the Godox F600bi on my next shoot.
That is a great light probably the best i seen but $4,000.00 i can think of better things to do with $4,000.00.. I have a portable light system that i use to shoot indoors and it works great and i think it cost me around $600.00 or so. But it's not s good as this one, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles... But it's great for your setup you can justify paying $4,000.00 for that because you make money off the RUclips so that makes sense, then i would probably spend the money yes, if i could make it back, Hell i would buy 2 of them, or maybe get the $18,000.00 light if justified.
He's sponsored by Aputure, he didn't pay anything for it. So it's either use it or pack it up on a shelf. I still think a 300c with the SE Softbox or 30oc Flatpanel with softbox would do fine for Gerald. I think he's overthinking it. :)
It's $5,000.
Apparently their target is rentals….so challenging ARRI…not creators.
$5k on an inflatable, you better handle that with care.
you can find the godox f600bi for 1400
Thank you
the 20x20 is $80k
7:47 Now you need to buy Alexa35 to recover those highlights 😂

4:40 4x4 light is 800W, 8x8 (4x as "grids") is only 2x as much power at 1600W?
Correct, the 8x8 premade is 1600w. If you made your own with four 4x4s, you'd need 2 1600w ballasts and it would be twice as powerful as the 8x8 unit.
@@geraldundonenow that’s a bonkers idea. I love it.
Holy Sh**sticks, i was shocked at the control box size, but love these mats.
hey everyone! Relax a bit. Renting this for 3-5 days will cost around ~$500. Not bad when billing equipment to client

Used those ballasts on the XT 26, not a fan but the water proofness is nice.
Just ordered the 20’x20’
Card was declined.
Guess I’ll have to use the sun. 🤷♀️
What about a 1x2' directly above? Could give you nice soft lighting. Still more spendy than a lantern, tho.
This gives me ideas on how to re-use my recently damaged airbed!

Godox has it too.

That banana is an art
Hey Gerald, are you planning on doing a review of the C80 or C400?
It is probably not safe, but I wonder if you fill the mattress with helium woudl it be possible to have a floating light?
Hydrogen would provide a higher peak illumination
It’s not sealed perfectly enough to retain helium. And it wouldn’t float because the mats are too heavy for that amount of gas.
Didn't Godox just release something like this also?
Have you ever gotten to play with a Hudson Spider?
needs a grid...
What arm are you using to put the infinimat on the C-Stand?
It comes with it. 👍

not at all underrated, more like. Sometimes not known

wouldn't an 8x8 be 4 times more powerfull than a 4x4? 🤔
so the power station could be 1/4 the size
Interestingly, no. The 8x8 is only 2x the power. So if you made your own 8x8, by using four 4x4s, it would be twice as powerful and need 3200 watts.
@geraldundone whao, strange. Probably a true 8x8 would need a much bigger power supply for a small increase in light output.
