I hope they become zealously protective of this beach as the best way to preserve as much of its original characteristics for future generations. It will be the only way to keep it clean and pristine. I remember Sosua beach next door, before it became popular. In man respects it was similar to Bahia de Aguilas. It was quiet, serene, clean and pristine, with a clear deep blue turquoise waters and white sandy beach. However, as time pass, its became somewhat over crowded during most times of the year, the water is no longer as transparent as it was and the sand went from a very light beige to a darker sandy yellowish-brown color. I remember it distinctly before and after. But I am afraid to say that history always repeats itself.

Here's s a Dominican who still has his original Chrono Trigger snes cartridge in a trophy glass box and I bought it in Puerto Plata back in 2003 right acrossed from UTESA. I remember when this phenomenon happened, we all jumped into the campus bus from Puerto Plata to Sosua, good all days 😀😁😂🤣
Well done video. Some minor errors; the "Playa Chiquita" attributed to this beach is incorrect, that beach still is in existence and it's further down the coast, the whole region there is called "Playa Chiquita" because of that beach. Also "Alicia" didn't appear overnight, the sea bottom was "coming up" so to speak, as sand was deposited over a period of time which went inadvertent until it became obvious as the sand showed when it broke to the surface. It was then that things proceeded faster with the sand becoming more and more abundant. It was then that the "news" spread and gave the impression that it was "overnight". As an afterthought, let me add that some sand was lost during the recent hurricanes "Irma" and "Maria", but there was a lot of sand there to spare, it still is a wonderful beach.
Thanks for the pointers! I lived for years in Sosua and didnt know that about Playa Chiquita. And yeah, you're right about the gradual emergence. I recall seeing the sand bottom coming up. We did play the 'poof' a bit for hyperbole. But I do remember that a day or so before the 'big event' there were still a few good feet of ocean. There must have been a big push one night for all that sand to come up...
Yes, i remember the news circa 2003 about an "strange fenomena" in sosua where an "instant beach" was formed, theoretically by a "strong marine sand movement", as the Defensa Civil saw at that time.
That's crazy because what happened to this beach is the opposite of what's happening in barahona where the sea is pretty much eating the land according to my mom.
I enjoyed your video about the jewish settlement very much, could you do some about other inmigrants in our country, like the pakestinians, syrians and lebanese refugees or the spanish, hungarian or japanese settlements?
De las bellezas de mi pais...

Someone told me that the sand might have come from Cabarete, where extra sand was artificially added
