That's a funny story. I've always seen the Marlins on the road, but never been to a home game, but I have easy trips to see their minor league affiliate, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Many Japanese like this. In Boston we loved Okajima for a few years, and Uehara was an absolute war horse. Now we have Yoshida who is also fun to watch.
Takaaki Ishibashi a.k.a. Taka Tanaka is still top comedian in Japan. The TV variety show that Tunnels (Takaaki Ishibashi and Noritake Kinashi) hosted has continued for 35 years. Ishibashi's channel on the Internet has 1.67 million followers. Ishibashi always talks about MLB as well as NPB every Monday.
Nomo chose 16 with the Dodgers to express his enormous gratitude to Ishibashi because Ishibashi thoroughly and wholeheartedly supported Nomo when there was a fierce backlash against Nomo from NPB and Japan's public for Nomo's move to leave NPB for MLB. Ishibashi is known for love of sports, in particular, baseball and boxing. Japan's athletes, including Nomo, Ichiro, and Ohtani, grew up with Ishibashi's TV and radio shows. Nomo's been a fan of Ishibashi even before he became a pro in NPB. ( Ishibashi invites Nomo in his popular TV variety show to cheer up Nomo amid the backlash. Notice Nomo's big smiles. ruclips.net/video/iimOXbyAidM/видео.html )
This movie was filmed at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. The home of the Baltimore Orioles. You can see the warehouse in right field in the video clip.
When I watched this movie in 1993 , I thought that this movie was not real. Because, Japanese baseball player couldn't play major league in the US. Nowadays ,Japanese many baseball players play in the US. Takataki Ishibashi taught Japanese baseball kids that major league was not fantasy .
And so Hiroshi Kamakazi Tanaka, recently of the Tokyo Giants, knocks himself cold for the second time this week. Maybe in Japan that’s better than catching the ball. Personally, I think he’s just trying to get out of the lineup.
I also always liked the movie Mr. Baseball (ミスター・ベースボール) starring Tom Selleck. It takes place in Japan. I read the movie performed poorly in Japan, though. So, maybe it is not a good representation of the country.
A Japanese baseball player became the first Japanese baseball player to play in the MLB. Then, hideo nomo became the second Japanese baseball player to sign for the dodgers in 1995. There, he opened doors for so many Japanese players to come to the MLB.
I love how at the 1:30 mark, you can see that it's Camden Yards in Baltimore, but none of the other stadium shots are. It's as though the filmmakers deemed the Cleveland outfield background too boring.
Any other Phillies fans here looking for context?
Actually I knew exactly where it came from the first time I saw it but came here to show my 72 yr old father who is a Phillies fan. 😂
I already knew but... loving it. My kids jumped on the marbles train for their little league. We got parents cracking up 😂
I knew and love it!!
Yup
There it is 1:21
"You have no marbles!" My dad's favorite line in the movie. I remember going to Marlin games with him and he'd yell it at the players.
Lol that’s awesome
