I always wondered what this song was about. I came up with a lot of different theories and then one day it finally hit me, so here is what I believe the song to be about: Lemon boy is a part of him. It's the part of him that he always thought would be hard to love because it's cynical, depressed, and "bitter". But one day, instead of trying to deny this part of himself, he embraces it and shows it compassion and thus becomes friends with lemon boy. But his friends don't seem to understand and they leave because they haven't learned to love the bitter parts of themselves. And he also worries about whether or not he will always be able to love the bitter parts of himself too. But he acknowledges that it's inevitable that there will be tough days, and times when he might not like lemon boy so much. And that's okay. In the end he realizes that it is better to befriend his own inner flaws and demons because ultimately, they are every bit a part of him as all the positive aspects are. And it is better to love your flaws and accept them, than it is to constantly hate yourself for them 🍋

This song in my opinion is talking about depression or that inner self that is mean to you bad thoughts etc. In the beginning you try to get rid of it but cant so you grow on to it and see it as a second self a second insecure you. It may be hard at first but you get used to it and like having a friend always by your side even through he can be mean sometimes. In the end of the song he is afraid that lemon boy might disapear and is sad about that because if he loses him he loses part of himself. And in the last lyrics he says that he and lemon boy are going to live forever. I believe lemon boy/ depression can get better from time to time and learn to be happy. Similar to your explanation, I think that lemon boy is depression, and at first we try to get rid of it, but get accustomed to it. And later on when the singer tries to show, or let out their feelings about depression to their friends, they leave. And so it's only lemon boy and the singer left. The singer sees their depression as just a part of them, and like you said, are scared to see it go away, because if it goes away so does a part of them. And so the quote, "lemon boy and I are gonna live forever" shows that the singer hopes that his depression and him will always be together. Truly a sad, but relatable song to jam to.

I refuse to think of a deeper meaning to this song, because on my darker days, daydreams of a literal lemon boy and a human boy (could be Robin, could be anyone) looking after each other and going about their day together warms my heart. This song in my opinion is talking about depression or that inner self that is mean to you bad thoughts etc. In the beginning you try to get rid of it but cant so you grow on to it and see it as a second self a second insecure you. It may be hard at first but you get used to it and like having a friend always by your side even through he can be mean sometimes. In the end of the song he is afraid that lemon boy might disapear and is sad about that because if he loses him he loses part of himself. And in the last lyrics he says that he and lemon boy are going to live forever. I believe lemon boy/ depression can get better from time to time and learn to be happy. Its like the sad part of us that we have to confort and see as a friend. Thank you to anyone who read this lol hope you all doing great♡

Similar to your explanation, I think that lemon boy is depression, and at first we try to get rid of it, but get accustomed to it. And later on when the singer tries to show, or let out their feelings about depression to their friends, they leave. And so it's only lemon boy and the singer left. The singer sees their depression as just a part of them, and like you said, are scared to see it go away, because if it goes away so does a part of them.
And so the quote, "lemon boy and I are gonna live forever" shows that the singer hopes that his depression and him will always be together.
Truly a sad, but relatable song to jam to.
