Being there/here at the start of Age of Sigmar is a uniqiue experiance. The more and more the realms get fleshed out and more lore gets added and expanded the better AOS gets. It's the feeling the first collectors and players must have felt when GW started back in the mid-seventies. I'm loving every moment.
Good analogy about the sandbox that can become a desert, because I seriously struggled with that during the early days of Age of Sigmar. It's turned me around to loving this setting that GW has addressed this with stories, battletomes and design recently (and I hope they keep that orb aloft). I will look out for Hammerhal, thanks.
I've been meaning to get the Hammerhal book for ages. Your videos are the best place to start when getting into AOS lore. I loved all the stuff to do with Nurgle can't wait to see more form you
City of Secrets is great, it's the book that actually made me care about the Age of Sigmar lore, that being said I really wish that GW would just put out a book that pretty much maps out each faction and how they interact with each other. In the old rulebooks for Warhammer Fantasy they had a bit of lore on each faction so you could get a basic understanding of each race. I still feel like a lot of factions are in some kind of Limbo with regards to how they fit into this world. And while a sandbox is great, people loved the old world because it had a distinct identity and feel, and I think Age of Sigmar needs more of that (the books and battle tomes help a lot though). I hope we get more books in the future, especially for the factions that don't have a lot of stuff going on at the moment.
I think they have slowly gotten better with making the lore in the battletomes feel like an actual world. But yes, they are still a far way from making the world come truely to life, but seeing as there is a Age of Sigmar RPG in the works, I have hope that it will flesh out a lot of the details.
9:55- Speaking of a human we can really relate to… I’m 100% a new subscriber! I’m really digging your content as a new player. I just started collecting and can’t wait to get my army to the board!
While I wouldn’t suggest it as the first book you pick up, Spear of Shadows by Josh Reynolds does a good job with world building and showing how people from a lot of factions interact with each other.
I listen to the intro and I hear 'AoS lore books.' Of course I had no idea what they would be. It's not like I have ever heard of 'Nagash Undying King' on this channel ever before! Awesome video, thanks Doug!
I started at the beginning; with Gates of Azyr and followed that with War Storm. I actually love The Realmgate Wars and think it would make a great animated series! I haven't made it to the ones you mention but I'm looking forward to reading them.
Thank you for recognizing the interest we fans have in the free guild. I will make sure to look into city of secrets now. As always great video and keep up the good work my man.
Hi Doug, great suggestions but about Hammerhal, except the first story all the others are in different places, for example the 2 with Mannfred are in Shish, and there's another 2 of Stormcasts invading Ghur, etc.
Playing the game on p.c. is a lot of fun and I believe it would be too daunting to pick up the table top version and do the stats and keeping track of everything and the math seems a bit too much. Does the p.c. version hold well to everything else? Is there a video you made that goes over this? Why hasn't some one made a table top app that keeps track of character stats for the player across multiple table top games?
Hey man! Amazing channel! Everyone at my store recommended you and you’re absolutely amazing for doing these. I’m new to sigmar and I want to watch your videos. Where should I start in your videos? I know nothing about the lore of those universe.
Hey Andres! Welcome to the hobby! I did a video just a few weeks back that aimed on getting folks caught up and pointed to a few playlists to help get you all set, here it is! ruclips.net/video/RZKYQfcVoLQ/видео.html
All the books from GW are only in english....that sucks when people like me maybe don't know that much english to read a fantasy book with all the descriptions and weird words haha

Battletomes and the Realmgate wars were where I started. I'm on book 4 now! Soooo good.
I bought Nagash: The Undying King primarily because of your enthusiasm for that book.
Cody Bailey such a good book

This video was just what I needed! Also definitely looking forward to more lore about the order cities!

Just purchased Nagash: The Undying King as the special edition so I'm looking forward to reading it after watching this.
I don’t play any of the games but I’m starting to dive into the Warhammer novels, both 40k and Fantasy. Great big worlds to explore.

Thanks a lot for that! It’s such a great and much needed video!!!! I was really lost in the Black Library content, but not anymore :)
Outstanding review of the way to get into lore!
I'll be looking for a Tzeentch book.
Thank you for this, it was really helpful.
Good book recommendations Doug. Might be worth while having a link to the Intro to Mortal Realms video that GW put out with Malign Portents

Thanks for this video. Came in from the Morathi video, fascinating stuff.
Awesome! Welcome and I hope you enjoy the channel :)
I love love loved Nagash. I also really loved The Realm Gate Wars audio dramas. Tentative alliance between Stormcast and Manfred? Count me in.
So gladyou enjoyed that one ;)
Plague Garden was great! Maybe not the best to start with but I liked it alot, also by Josh Reynolds who is indeed very good!
yes! I forgot about Plague Garden!
I'm heartbroken sir. No mention of Spear of Shadows? Such a fun party adventure tale.
Spear of shadows is pretty great, I just like these more as an entry point. I do plan on doing a "Best of..." video and SoS will be on there for sure!
2+Tough Lugash in Spear of Shadows is my spirit animal. Cant wait for more from that story.
Audio books are awesome I highly recommend them
Bought both Hammerhal and City of Secrets, only $5 each for the paperback versions. Thanks for the vids and suggestions
Thank you so much MindsAblaze2! So Glad you enjoyed it!

How many pages does a book consist of in general? Love your channel by the way!

Was wondering what is everyone's opinion about the book Plague Garden. Would that be a good start as well?
Great video Doug, you should work for GW
Hey Doug was wondering how factions work now? especially with all the sub-factions.
Huh. When clicking the Hammerhal link, its saying the book wont be available until July 10th. Is it me?
Awesome video, as per usual (y)
