Doc, in regards to the lava blade that cooks the beef: I've found that if you place a sign in the side of the block where the cows stand (at their feet) and allow a lava blade to fall from above, it provides the extra one or two points of damage necessary for the cows to die from the fire and ensure cooked steak. The sign causes the lava to sit at head-height for an extra tick or two, which removes the need for fall damage or beating the cows before-hand. Great design as always though!
Thanks, Dobsonium, for the idea about the ladders. The pictures didn't work, and neither did signs. Next up was going to be trap doors until I read your message. The ladders work like a charm.
Two optimizations: 1) you only need 2 powered rail per cell, both of which are toggled by the pulse (so powered-powered-normal-normal, rather than powered-normal-powered-powered) also saving a lever or two. A button pulse is long enough to get the cart over both rails. 2) By offsetting each row slightly, you can reuse some glass (putting the holding pens adjacent to each other, thus sharing a wall).
I gotta agree with you there. The cows get out of the system on my SSP and the server I play on. Wish i knew why because i took this design here and made it more compact and vertical on top of that. had a blast designing it, but once the chunk with the cows is unloaded they get out once its loaded again. Really wish it worked consistently like it does in the video. People shouldn't downvote this, as it actually is a problem.
I want to add a few more to this tutorial: 1. you could have just the one button that calls the next cows and triggers the pistons; this will prevent you from calling cows when you have one pair already in the breeder; 2. for the cooker... you can put 2 repeaters on 4 ticks which can extend the period the lava stays out and they will die for sure (i would put the dispenser on the ground in this case).
1.4.7 - with little modifications still usable! :) I used trapdoor instead of pictures (minecart can't be stopped in falling down by pictures anymore) and few pistons (when the minecart stops on trapdoors, small cowies don't fall down through it as they did through picture). So I put there some sticky pistons which extend blocks on which the small cow jumps when you hold wheat (2 block above the first powered rail) and four more sticky pistons which push the cow to the water stream.
Hey doc, first of all - luv ur tutorials :) I ended up with several cows in the same cells and them dropping into my cooker with carts when i sent them back too fast.. quite annoying in survival.. so i added a detection rail in front of the last cell, took the signal to my breeding box with 3 repeaters on max delay and into a torch.. this way the light turns on when the cows are back in their cell and Im fine to get the next cows :) cooker: added sticky with button to crush them 4 a sec greets
Dont know if ppl have said this yet... but your mic is AWESOME!! I remember the first time you used it you were asking how it was, and you had the settings alittle off. But even with bad settings I could hear then good it was. Now you got the settings perfect and that is the best mic EVER! lol
Dude don't criticise Doc for that not every design in the game is 100% reliable and things can go wrong but I'm sure Doc spent hours testing and preparing the walkthrough, It worked fine for me...
Nice design..thanks for the tut. One thing you could do, is place the lever on the bottom of that raised block (the one between the two rails)...that way nothing "stands out" ;) Keep it up, Cheers!
I had the same problem - I'd made the catching platform (red wool in doc's vid) in the wrong place, one block out, so they were landing too far into the water and not far enough onto the powered rails. It's hard to explain, but double check the positioning of your catching platform.
You need to elaborate on the third step you listed. The baby cows are held up by the fencing, when they move off it they'll drop down the same place the minecarts are supposed to drop. How do we adjust them to keep the baby cows going into a holding area and the minecarts going onto the tracks?
Thank you very much docm77 :-) This is an amazing contraption - the tutorial was easy to follow and you explained things very well. I look forward to the day I can build this for myself in my single-player world. Much love doc :-)
I just made this *non creative mode mind you*, and it works great :D, found one problem though, while its on a server, the sheep will glitch out of the minecarts D: so that sucks but other than that great machine :DD
It happens for videos that people watch so often. it loads them and also check what he said. However it always takes numbers between 301 - 310. This is a RUclips thing.
Yeah, the glitches in singleplayer still differ a lot from SMP. I think it's funny that the mine carts will call forward and appear empty but when I break them they fall down into the meat grinder hehe. I used to only play single player and I'm tempted to do that again :(.
I built this in creative mode to test it out and to find out if I was building it correctly and had no issues with single player. However, when I made this exact design on my multiplayer world, cows would stack onto eachother or even worse cows wouldn't appear to be in their minecarts until i broke them.
awesome system. works perfectly for cows. sheep are 1.25 blocks high, should it work for them? they broke my motherboard when i attempted to add sheep instead.
Hey Docm77! One improvement I see for this design is to start the holding bays closer to the exit so that when you press the button that calls out the next set of cows it doesn't cause unneeded malfunctions such as having 2 cows in each bay (or 4 as you call them up). I loved your tutorial however I was able to figure out how to build this from your previous video showing off the design and found that to be a problem. I was wondering if you found this build to work in SMP. I tried, lag ruins it.
Someone might have a bot to give them tons of views when nobody has actually watched the video, youtube makes sure people don't do that. It takes time to make sure, hence the apparent lack of views.
Finally got it working, and it had nothing to do with it being 1.4.7; just me being an idiot. I had several sections of tracks running right next to each other. I didn't realize the minecarts "bump" and bounce and screw up the order. Also I was missing a repeater. Derp. It works perfectly. Adding the update from @phatixus would make it even more perfecter :)
Will that matter though ? I tried on 1.2.5 and on tekkit but just using vanilla stuff. I also used mooshrooms instead of cows. Unless the changed the hitbox of paintings or something like that in the 1.3 update.
you said that you could use nromal blocks instead of half slabs to stop the minecart but you have to use a half slab if you use cows otherwise they would take suffocation damage
Just a question, will this work on a SMP server? I did a test with only a pair of cows but when I load back into my farm, the cows leave the minecarts and start walking around the breeder.
I've found a few fixes and I've managed to get the exchange working - the place where you feed them the wheat, but I'm still finding that some of the cows escape from the minecarts when I log out and in again, and some of the carts end up in the wrong place. Are you going to redesign/fix this when 1.5 comes out, DocM?
yep same here, but unfortunately mobs can still glitch through in SMP, now I have a basement full of wandering cows and i nifty minecart storage system
Hey, I like your idea, and it sort of works for me, but im having trouble figuring out how I should position the water for the babies to fall into it, and the minecarts for the parents to fall on them. Is there any way to further explain how to do that? Video, go on a server to show me, better explanation...
any suggestion how to make this work for pigs? as they are shorter than 1 block they seem able to walk out along the track on server restart when they get out of the cart
I think etho figured out that the game will only allow one or the other, In one episode on the mindcrack server he was hitting cows with crits to avoid the fire aspect so he could get extra meat.
I've been working on this for a day or two and it's just not working well. The cows don't always make it to the next track so the bunch up and I have to run around and fix it. Very frustrating. It's dodgy in 1.4.7 :( I did the fix in the video response and that part is working fine. It's the Motherboard itself. I don't really see a way to improve it, either.
1.4.5 fix! 1) Extend the dropholes by one block 2) Replace the paintings with fence 3) Ajust the tracks a bit so the minecarts fall on them 4) Enjoy you're MotherBoard 3.1 Like so evereyone can see!!!
so i made mine with 8 cells in each row, cause i wanted to be able to breed endlessly, so by the time i bred all the cows, they would be ready to breed again but will 6 cells do that?

DOC! I have literally been waiting a week for this tutorial! I'm so happy to be able to build one in my world now!

I'm not gonna make this thing, I just love to watches doc's videos and listen to him! :D

Doc does the best tutorials.
This is a great tutorial! I'm still a newbie at redstone after 3 years but this tutorial was very easy to understand :D
Doc! Can i just say that you're actually a minecraft genius! Thank you soo much :)
Dude don't criticise Doc for that not every design in the game is 100% reliable and things can go wrong but I'm sure Doc spent hours testing and preparing the walkthrough, It worked fine for me...

Hey Doc!! Just wanna say I made this on the server I play on and im having no problems at all! Its perfect! Thank you :D
I feel like Doc doesn't just make a tutorial without testing EVERY possible outcome.
As always one of the best tutorials
Lol, motherboard sounds a new name for a DJ equipment~ cool stuff
I had the same problem - I'd made the catching platform (red wool in doc's vid) in the wrong place, one block out, so they were landing too far into the water and not far enough onto the powered rails. It's hard to explain, but double check the positioning of your catching platform.
nice tutorial, Doc !
really looking forward to the world tour :D
G'day Docm77, great stuff you crazy German,
1/2 heart after lava damage?
COW XP FARM GO!
lolol, nice tutorial Doc, as always
I have a supper simple fix for this build:
Replace the paintings with Trap doors. Open the trap door so it is open on the wall under the piston. Done.
Thank you for the detailed tutorial, doc. Very much appreciated ..
You need to elaborate on the third step you listed. The baby cows are held up by the fencing, when they move off it they'll drop down the same place the minecarts are supposed to drop. How do we adjust them to keep the baby cows going into a holding area and the minecarts going onto the tracks?

thanks for the tutorial doc, i built mine inside a giant cow :D
I have villeger trading machine already created and will be sure to make the moderboard also
tnx docm XD
yes it is very easy to do, and it can be done to look clean
I have villeger trading machine already created and will be sure to
tnx docm XD

i like how he says power tracks it sounds cool
This has taken you years doc xD
Mother Board 3.0 for DocM's new new world toor or world toor version 3.0 :D
I built this in creative mode to test it out and to find out if I was building it correctly and had no issues with single player. However, when I made this exact design on my multiplayer world, cows would stack onto eachother or even worse cows wouldn't appear to be in their minecarts until i broke them.

Nice tutorial doc really like it and just started build it in my world ;-)
Doc, please we want your next world tour.
Cool tutorial doc!
built it 100% block for block as he did to see if I had in fact messed up. It still lets cows out once the chunk is unloaded/reloaded.
Hey Docm77! Hey Doc do you think you could upload a world download for this one? I need to know the exact size of everything so I can put it perfectly in a corner
Did you put the blocks to keep the cart from over-shooting? They should land square on the painting.
Someone might have a bot to give them tons of views when nobody has actually watched the video, youtube makes sure people don't do that. It takes time to make sure, hence the apparent lack of views.
I think i have to fo this for my library cause since 3.1 you need leather for books l. Danke docm ;)
1:08 "-and the babies will be...over there...where they'll be sent to a killing set-up."
Me: *laughs maniacally* MOO-HAHAH!
man you a boss, you talk like gangster in youtube comments
Yes!
I have been waiting for this :)
Thank you doc!
why dont put the lever between the powered rails under the block so its prettier when you look at it from above?
The storage is unnesasery big, but the thing is amazing
i really like the sound quality.
Im tempted to build one, but is it that much more effective than a fenced off thing? im thinking tome more then resources
Finally got it working, and it had nothing to do with it being 1.4.7; just me being an idiot. I had several sections of tracks running right next to each other. Awesome design!
Cheers for the informative tutorial Doc, rated up! (:
Is there any way to make it so you can't mess up the system. So a more automated version with only one button, I get confused with two.
listen carefully, thats something docm suggests
Will that matter though ? I tried on 1.2.5 and on tekkit but just using vanilla stuff. I also used mooshrooms instead of cows. Unless the changed the hitbox of paintings or something like that in the 1.3 update.
Doc what do you think about the new snapshot? The carrots and potatos are awesome right? :D
hey doc - why not use a tripwire to auto bring back cows who already breeded? that way you wouldn't need to be as carefull when logging out ;)
DOCM77 VIDEO!
yeah, that was working fine, but they were glitching through the glass and getting free. Might try another material on the sides to see if that helps
I love the way he says 'track'
you said that you could use nromal blocks instead of half slabs to stop the minecart but you have to use a half slab if you use cows otherwise they would take suffocation damage
Herzlichen Dank für dieses - wieder mal - SUPER Tutorial :D
thx for this uhc super tutorial

giving a like before watching the video because you love doc :D

by 7:50 put a stone slab with a lever between two rail.
Thanks so much Doc! Love you
Hmm seems a little cruel gassing the cows but i like that kind of stuff sooo... GREAT VIDEO!
i can clearly hear that you have a new mic at the beggining
"the baby cow is transported to a killing area"
Thats nice.
I think etho figured out that the game will only allow one or the other, In one episode on the mindcrack server he was hitting cows with crits to avoid the fire aspect so he could get extra meat.
Dear Doc, if you just put a half slab where the cows land it will kill them and give you the cooked goods. like this post up so doc will see
Thanks Doc!
Very cool, going to use it in my server :)
yes thank you docm77
can you use this set up with other types of animals?
I've been working on this for a day or two and it's just not working well. The cows don't always make it to the next track so the bunch up and I have to run around and fix it. Very frustrating. Mic is perfect!
29:22 "I need to get some weed" :P
are we able to enclose it with bricks or something or do the cows die?
Stop teasing !! When's World Tour III coming ? :-)
Yes! finally a tutorial
1.4.5 fix!
1) Extend the dropholes by one block
2) Replace the paintings with fence
3) Ajust the tracks a bit so the minecarts fall on them
4) Enjoy you're MotherBoard 3.1
Like so evereyone can see!!!
Might cross chunks - try building it one block to the left or right.
Stop asking for it. It comes when it comes.
Do you think that this could be stacked vertically?
so i made mine with 8 cells in each row, cause i wanted to be able to breed endlessly, so by the time i bred all the cows, they would be ready to breed again but will 6 cells do that?
best answer ever doc ;)
mines still working, whats the prob is it empty carts? that does happen now and then to me but most the time its runs nice and smooth
