- A simple and cheap gray water system built for our off grid cabin. We built a french drain to filter our grey water back into the ground. This system cost in total around $250. We are happy with how our DIY gray water system turned out and are excited to put it to use once we move in!

Great video, we're going to be doing this soon. I'm a civil engineer, and we do similar systems for drainage on roads. Rockfill with a holed pipe to keep groundwater from the road layers. We use geotextiles that allow water through but keep silt/soil out. We usually dig a trench and line the entire inside with the geotextile leaving enough on the ends to then lap over the top of the stone. I think I'm going to try that.

Seems like you could have used a sleeve around the pipe to prevent soil from entering it, also.
