Tamiya's TS Lacquers are gorgeous. Great colours and a great, durable finish. You can buy most of them in smaller 10ml jars now for airbrushing in the LP line. But even better is to decant from the spray can into glass jars and then run it through the airbrush. For a little over twice the price of a 10ml jar, you can decant between 70 -100ml from a spray can (the pearl and metallic cans tend to have less actual paint in them but still loads more than a 10ml jar). Its the same paint and sprays perfectly with little or no thinning. All you need is a glass jar and a plastic bendy straw - the straw fits right over the outlet on the cap and sprays into the jar, the bend in the straw slows the flow down so it doesn't spray everywhere, and as long as you let it off-gas overnight (just loosely sit the cap on top of the jar without tightening it) it won't bubble over when you stir or shake it.

Appreciate the help. Thanks! My concern is whether handling the rear cap with my finger would led the paint to flake off.

Hi, can you mask over gloss Tamiya airbrush acrylic paint using Tamiya yellow masking tape without stripping the paint or leaving sticky residue? Or is better to use Tamiya gloss spray paint for this? Also do the metallic colors look more metal than the acrylics?

hi, i want to know. first i need to primer the plastic with Mr.Surfacer 1200, then i can apply the Tamiya metal color spray cans right? do i need to apply clear coat after that?
I didn't use any Gloss coats on these as I wanted to test them straight out of the can. The light gunmetal is one of my favorites here and it looks perfect without any top coat
@@barbatosrex9473 for sure it looks really clean and that was the look I wanted for my model kit that I recently bought and the people at the hobby store recommended testors which I didn’t really like but the tamiya is so hard to get
Thank you for the video, does this flake off the paint easily when it apply to bare plastic gunpla kits? Planning on using it on silver and gold of Rg Hi Nu, also is it okay if i didn't prime before painting it with ts tamiya?
I'd be interested in a list of paint set up you would recommend for people getting back into modelling that would give good coverage for most jobs. Would it be a combination of spray cans and air brush? For instance are you better off using a spray can to gloss finish like Mr super clear rather than messing around with thinning down for an airbrush? Small parts with brush I assume is the way to go. For someone who would make the occasional model, not churning out multiple models per month should we just use spray cans?
For the person just making an occasional model , these Tamiya spray cans are the way to go. I'm blown away by there quality. I'll be testing their brighter car type colors next but I expect them to be great too. As for primer, use Mr Color Surfacer white and grey. I like that better than Tamiyas primer. As for jars of paint, stick with Mr Color, it's the best all around paint in my collection and super affordable . Hope this helps
Thanks for your video! and I would like to ask do u paint all the parts with MR hobby Mr surface 1200 grey primer b4 u use the spray gun? Like grey primer then Ts-21 gold? Cheers!
I have to say these Tamiya spray cans don't really need a primer, they cover really well. The gold's and the silvers do look best over black. That said, I do like to prime and Mr Surfacer is my favorite primer. When possible I always prime but I do have friends who never prime anything, ever and their kits look great
Love your reviews! I've seen one guy get the can color for gunmetal but mine came out like yours after 2-3 coats. Finding proper gunmetal in spray can form is looking to be a journey.
I don’t own an airbrush so this was extremely helpful! Very thorough and I appreciate your thoughts. Good stuff. What do you think of the TS-100 semi-gloss bright Gun Metal for a gundam frame (using black primer)? I agree with you that the flake in some of the metallics feel more for cars.
That's a perfect color for a frame. I'm planning on using it myself for a frame. Also coming up very soon is my Tamiya Spray Can test of their Opaque Colors.

Love your channel! Im just starting and I have a quick question. I'm planning to paint a lot of mini4wd cowls. do you need primer for other colours as well?
You truly don't "need" a primer unless you have filled gaps with putty that was sanded, then the primer helps smooth that out with sanding it. But if your going over smooth plastic like a car model out of the box you don't have to prime unless your going with a very light color over a dark color, meaning if you want a white paint job but the kit is molded in dark blue then I would prime it in a grey. Hope this helps

Do you think it's a good idea to decant these spray cans for airbrushing purely from a cost savings point of view? 100ml can for AUS$12 VS 4.50 for a bottle of 10ml paint seems a lot more economical.

Great vids very informative. Have you tried SPAZ STIX paints
Filmed my Spaz Stix test tonight, going up tomorrow
@@barbatosrex9473 SWEET! I just received the 5 bottles of paint that I ordered last week to try out
@@sectorse7en Happiness is a new batch of paint 😏
Do you think it's a good idea to decant these spray cans for airbrushing purely from a cost savings point of view? 100ml can for AUS$12 VS 4.50 for a bottle of 10ml paint seems a lot more economical.
Yes ci can see decanting the paint to stretch out your dollar. Absolutely
Brother, I watch your videos all the time, then watch them again bc I LOVE PAINTING TOO!
Please do a test of the flat gray’s and cover them with gloss. Grays are so hot ringer now for car colors. Plus call me a weirdo but I think I want to start building Gund’s but do one in all gray colors
Please?
An all gray Gundam would be great. Very modern military aircraft looking. I'm planning on a clear coat test and part of it will be gloss coating flat colors
Bro, which one would you use to put "steel base" for a tank? 😅
TS-42 Light Gun Metal
great video man! trying to paint a mandalorian helmet. I think the gunmetal color would work best. I appreciate the amazing content! keep it up!!!
Thanks brother, much appreciated 👍
Do anyone know if those bomb could be used as an undercoat for resin miniatures ? (Like fallout wasteland warfare)
Curious what metallic grey looks like with a gold base compared to a black base..
I found these very pigment heavy and I feel they would cover any color under them. That said, I will test it tomorrow and let you know the results. I will post a Pic in my community page
Lovely cave.
Do you know a way to make the gold more yellow while only using tamiya spraycans?
Maybe spray clear yellow on top of it?
@@barbatosrex9473 that would definitely work but i dont have a airbrush, does spraying basic yellow as an undercoat work?
@@curse.dmeme..3399 Tamiya TS-47 Chrome Yellow spray can should work. Lay down very light coats
@@barbatosrex9473 thanks
Thank you!
How do these compare with other brands such as Rustoleum, etc. Thank you, Judy in Nova Scotia, Canada
Check out my Rust-Oleum metal colors test. They're not really in the same league. One color I did love as you will see in the video was Carbon Mist.
can you use these for model car projects without primer ?
Yes, I didn't use primer here, they work great without primer
Why does your ts 75 look better than mine and it also matches perfectly but mine looks like silver why is that
Not sure why that is but many times it's environment.
@@barbatosrex9473 😂 I silly it was probably because I was in the sun outside painting my car but when I got in it looked good and exactly like the can
Ok, then it is TS-17 for Hobby 2000's Mig-15 (first fighter jet after many years).... Thanks for make my choice easier :)
if i could only buy one primer for all of these color which colour would give me the best results? black, gray or white?
For metal colors such as these go with black
