I personally learn this strategy as a coping mechanism. I have an excellent personality that put others on edge and make them feel uncomfortable around me because I will always outdo them. It makes me feel lonely and scared. To adapt, I had to start telling people I am not good in anything. It works, but my initial approach was crude. By the time I get wiser to subtly add my imperfections to my personality rather than saying it, it works better.
Humility. It humanizes us. Even the braggart can benefit by showing occasional weakness. We want to see some humanity.
