I concur that Kantara was overated. Not saying it's a bad film, it's a good film, just not the 'once a lifetime' movie folks are making out it to be. And before anybody lectures me to learn abt the traditions, I am from Udupi district. Additionally if I dislike a movie based on WWII , it doesn't mean I am disrespecting the victims of war/siding with Nazis. I simply didn't like the film on a cinema making scale. Also I need not read books/study cultures/ prove thesis before choosing to watch a movie. So stop saying that. Not liking a movie ≠ disrespecting anything
I don't regularly watch awful and awesome, but kantara was mentioned, so just wanted to give a try.. I think u guys should have watched full movie and should have known least bit of info about the traditions shown in the film like kambala, daivaradhane and other traditions as well and if u had seen those traditions in real life too, which are mainly performed in coastal areas and malenadu region of karnataka, may be views had been different. Peace out. ✌
Same here, i also don't watch awful and awesome often, though I watch other newslaundry things. I haven't watched the film yet, but yes, I would rather not speak anything about a movie whether it's up to the mark or comment on something else since I don't know the context of say screaming here in the trailor etc for which I will have to watch the movie first. Abhinandan Sir, please don't lose your credibility, i am a huge admirer of what you had started with Madhu Trehan ma'am. Please give some time to yourself. Aap mere bade bhai jaise hai, please take some holidays as I know you like to work everyday and the day you are on holiday, you are naturally reminded of newslaundry as you love your work so much. Someone, reading this from newslaundry please ask Abhinandan Sir to be on leave for sometime. Manisha ma'am, Atul ji along with the rest fabulous team, will take care of us. Have a great day ahead!
Kantara is a good commercial film with strong proletarian themes. Bhoota Kola itself is about the semi historical folk heroes fighting caste etc in the past which has been appropriated by brahminism.

Kantara is applauded by both masses and classes.. If the persona of an actor is what stood out for you after watching this movie, it very well means that you’ve not got the plot, storyline and also the fact that ‘Daivaradhane’ (on which this movie is based) is in fact practiced in Coastal Karnataka. Perhaps you’ll have a different view if you read the ‘Wikipedia’ about Kantara and watch the movie again, preferably in a Theater ! I, being a Kannadiga, but not a fanboy of Kannada movies was ‘stunned’ by this movie and I ended up watching it thrice !
Sekhri thinks he is Ram Gopal Verma 😂 and any film released is not good and has no story at all . He is also the guy that said RRR is bad film and Gehrayian was best movie of 2022 and then wants everyone to subscribe to NL 🐏 . 🤡

Kantara is not a perfect film but it touches so many points that a normal commercial film would not. Such as, 1) The land ownership dispute between govnt and tribal folks. 2) Breaking stereotype of typical Hindu beliefs. 3) Cast and class disparity in Indian society. 4) Belief system of Indian in rural India. It's understandable that these woke journalists who a born and bought up in large cities and have no touch with the real India. I am not surprised by their comments, who sit in ac rooms and try to decipher a traditional rooted movie like Kantara.

The first Newslaundry video I've disliked! Such a lame review of Kantara. Anyway, to each their own. But the way he talked about Hrithik's body transformation, I can picture how this guy would be in parties or in any regular conversation, sprinkling his salt everywhere about everything
Pls do some research on Tulu Nadu culture before commenting on kantara, it's a layered film with multiple meanings.really bad review , go and research why the daiva screams it's all real and happens in Mangalore , it's not overacting it's how boota kola and daiva react

I am just stunned by your analysis. You need to dig deeper in terms of the culture to understand a movie like Kantara. At least watch the movie fully and read up on the traditions. Have you been or read about "Mangalore" at all? Honestly, your analysis was like a Non-Christian watching movie "Ten Commandments" and saying its nothing great. Please do your homework before you present something! or please stick to local politics
Not at all appreciable, if you are conducting a podcast then be informed about it and it's severity. Trans people face a lot of trauma bcz f these "fun" things. U should apologise.
