- "Nobody Loves You (When You're Down And Out)"
Nobody loves you when you're down and out
Nobody sees you when you're on cloud nine
Everybody's hustlin' for a buck and a dime
I'll scratch your back and you scratch mine
I've been across to the other side
I've shown you everything, I got nothing to hide
And still you ask me do I love you, what it is, what it is
All I can tell you is it's all show biz
All I can tell you is it's all show biz
Nobody loves you when you're down and out
Nobody knows you when you're on cloud nine
Everybody's hustlin' for a buck and a dime
I'll scratch your back and you knife mine
I've been across the water now so many times
I've seen the one eyed witchdoctor leading the blind
And still you ask me do I love you, what you say, what you say
Everytime I put my finger on it, it slips away
Everytime I put my finger on it, it slips away
Well I get up in the morning and I'm looking in the mirror to see, ooo wee!
Then I'm lying in the darkness and I know I can't get to sleep, ooo wee!
Nobody loves you when you're old and grey
Nobody needs you when you're upside down
Everybody's hollerin' 'bout their own birthday
Everybody loves you when you're six foot in the ground
Have always liked this version more than the one on "Walls and Bridges", wish it find it's way to Spotify one day. Yes, I have exactly this CD, but getting old and lazy.
Agreed. The stripped down version on the Anthology box set are brilliant, and in many cases better than the more produced and slick finished versions.
Follow-up to Harrison's "Isn't It a Pity", that chord progression truly does the magic.
Bingo!
And eight days a week!
Isn’t it a Pity is mostly I-Idim-Iim/I-I. This is mostly I-II-IV-I.
@@victorlinge92 And You Won´t See Me, but the bridge is reminiscent of Isolation and That Is All.
This version is much better than the original, and has a stripped down arrangement, but the lineup is essentially the same, with Lennon on vocals and rhythm guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, Jim Keltner on drums, Jesse Ed Davis on lead guitar, Nicky Hopkins on piano, and Ken Ascher on organ. This song (along with "Jealous Guy" and the Beatles song "Two of Us") features Lennon whistling, and it sure is some mighty fine whistling.
I was just comment the same thing. This version is so much better than the album version. He slowed it down on the album version way too much in my opinion. This version is just perfect. Lennon was always better raw
It's because this is the original recording. .. no echo!
Agreed 👍
I agree. I have the Wonsaponatime cd and i also like the version's of I'm Losing You and How Do You Sleep on that cd. Much rawer and exciting than the one's that were released on Double Fantasy and Imagine.
I agree, this version is perfect to me
I like how John whistles.
This is a Masterpiece!
Beautiful song
Best versión and the first that ive heard from
The others
3:28 best part
Masterpiece!
Anybody ever get hold of "Grapefruit" a book Lennon put together with his great whimsical drawings? It is classic from the 70s. Bright pink colored small square book. Awesome. John you are missed brother John💖☮️💖🤙🏽🕊
I bought a copy of Grapefruit in college in the late 90’s at a used book store and had it for years until an ex girlfriend took it and never gave it back. My copy was yellow and pink. As I remember, the drawings and the surrealistic poetry or “instructions” were all made by Yoko in the early 60’s. John just presented the contents of the book to the reader.
@@cactaceous mine was ripped off as well in the 70s. A coworker casually looking through it and next hour he was gone with the book. Yellow and pink! I thought I had seen it all. John and yes! Yoko were exraordinary groovy people💖😢☮️💖☮️🌸John was a genius
@@river4462 Agree. John was a genius. Yoko was pretty cool herself. Unusually. You heard her album Feeling the Space? That’s pretty groovy.
Every time I put my finger on it, it slips, slips away. Such a fantastic version
Would love to hear Willie Nelson sing this!
Me too. It would have been a great song for him.
Una cancion cuando estas verdaderamente triste
Quiobooo...
this is so true
Best version ever
The whistling should be longer it’s great. Listening on a set of boss
headphones man the bass line by Voormann! A madman took John
Lennon for no reason less than a decade later Love you Mr.Lennon.
Me encantó
Way down below the ocean
Where I want be - she may be.
Love to JWOL, but this is Donovan.
I hear a bit of Donovan influence they were great friends. He taught John a claw hammer guitar picking method that Lennon used in some great songs. The song is John’s but all music consists of bits and pieces. I saw Donovan live in the 70’s
he closed with a very heavy version of Atlantis one of his best songs…
I prefer John Lennon's speaking voice to the late Paul Ogrady's; they did sound a bit similar. And I can vouch for the fact that nobody loves you when you're old and grey if you can't pay your way in this world today.
God bless his
Linda.
This may be my favorite version of this song though I heard a blues version the other day that was pretty good. I don't like the rock versions I've heard of this so much.
Jesus the voice of your word so true and clear perfect up in your way brings healing your peace clothed in knowledge your garments dressed up in the tempered balance of wisdoms understanding the Spirit of the Son of God the I am.
1:05 these chords remind me of his song Out The Blue.
We all exist
Lord God Jesus el the mercy that I am sensing helps with my need to feel alive Father of lights wake me up in your presence every day and night Jesus let me me feel your breath of life up in this wounded vessel of broken clay may the potter's hand rebuild my life comforming me to Christ image and not my own or the peoples way let your word and Spirit of of truth take root. with the key David love opening the door when I turn it upside down to open up the door to your lighted way
