Rescuing a greyhound in Australia 🇦🇺 has been the BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE! They are loving creatures who will enrich your life and make you happy 😊
I recently adopted a lurcher here in the USA. She is totally a couch potato and is more than satisfied with a walk and an hour at the dog park each day. She tires herself out and will sleep for 10 hours after an hour at the park. She is the most affectionate couch potato ever and I can definitely see myself adopting this breed again in the future.
We have our fifth retired greyhound over the past 31 years. One was a lurched, the others all racers. Most fantastic dogs out there. Now that we’re in our 70s we can attest to the fact that these beautiful beasts are perfect pets, especially for seniors.
Our big boy is the delight of our daily existence. If you've never had a greyhound you have never lived. In our case it was through Greyhounds as Pets, New South Wales.
I've rescued a grey called Murphy, he has been a challenge, as in the past only rescued collies. He is an ex racer, and a terrible food thief, which is challenging!!!! 1.5 years down the line, we are getting there, as long as I keek the kitchen door closed!!!!
Please adopt from GRWE. I adopted my beautiful greyhound from them some years ago - an ex-racer from Ireland, and he has been the most wonderful pet. Currently, I also have a lurcher who is fun, slightly mischievous and totally affectionate and loyal. These dogs deserve to be loved and cared for, bred as they are either for pure utility in hunting, or to make money by racing. They deserve better, and they deserve a long, happy retirement.
I had spaniels for years. We got a lurcher a year ago. They are such easy dogs to train from puppies, placid and love to lay around. However once they’re out they’re lightening fast. Beware, no matter how good recall is, once that prey-drive kicks in, you’ve no chance recalling. Brill dogs though.
I am wondering if I can get more information on lurchers. We have just got a lurcher whippet X and we need more information on them first time having this breed xxx
Its not exactly true what slugboy said. In the UK the regulator that oversees greyhound racing invests heavily in projects relating to welfare rehoming and adoption. Source : www.gbgb.org.uk/welfare-care/investing-in-welfare/
Oh my God this is awful! How could I adopt one? I've been looking for the right lurcher for a long time for a hiking companion. There putting them to sleep what's wrong with this world? p.s.i remember you from buffy the vampire slayer

Best dogs in the world, and have been for thousands of years
I agree with that!
Perhaps you can consider the reason there are so many rescue agencies dedicated specifically to greyhounds.
