Weapons and armor, especially, look much shinier and more realistic. Faces don't look nearly as flat and dead, though the overall quality level is still below Rome 2 or Shogun 2. It also adds about 20 GB to the install and impacted my performance on the Extreme unit size to the point that I was no longer able to cruise at 60+fps on my GeForce RTX 2060 Super with no major dips, like I was without the pack installed. - Leana H.
Thats is just the reality of historical warfare. Imagine a giant army of professional soldiers attacking the front of your group you can barely see the front, and now there has been a shock from the back were the back of your group has been charged, everyone around you is panicking and so are trying to run away, what do you realistically do, not a persona of a grizzled veteran, because most historical armies were made up of fresh volunteers from villages.
If you want to play a modern version of Rome: TW, there’s Rome 2 and Attila. Rome Remastered is meant to be a faithful update of the original, and a key part of that is how it runs well on modern hardware. Getting upset about this, which is what the fans want, is silly.
Guys idk if you'd thought of this, but the reason it feels like a game from 2004 is because... it is. It's just got better graphics and such (only a few actual tweaks).
So it's an old game that, over time, got outclassed by other games in the same franchise that only got a couple of actual tweaks. Why should it get a better score than 7 if it's far from the best anymore?

How can you we not 'fault' the original Rome TW? Diplomacy was non existent, AI was non existent and combat was entirely broken. There were games at the time that had excellent all three, Creative Assembly was just neglectful.

$15 on Steam until May 31st if you have the original Rome Total War already in your library. The game will be getting a ton of mod support from the Total War community.
The challenge of Rome total war for me was to defeat Rome with one of the other factions. To have them all available to play is very nice as it saves the time of having to defeat that faction as Rome before they die to another faction.
They fixed and balanced the large unit size issue too. If you set the unit size to large or max, you and the AI would never have a high enough population to level up a city. Now, the population scales with the unit size...the bigger the unit size option, the more citizens youll have. Things like that make me so excited for this remaster.
IGN: "missing so many years of iteration and refinement of the formula" Such as removing the ability to have armies without generals, having a set amount of buildings per settlement, a limit on how many armies you can field, and simplified visuals that make it hard to discern buildings and units.

Ign only gives cod 10/10 cause they're run by a 5 year old. It's meant to be a more modern polished game, not a whole new game. It's the exact same as rome 1 with a Lil changes.

Yeah, the whole point is that we don't have 1v1 duels and one man armies. That we don't have provinces limited to 4 building slots, that we don't need to attach a general every time we want to send 1 unit to another city etc. Can't wait till they do Medieval 2 Remastered
As a Total War fan who started with Rome 1, I'm going to pretend that this review was an intentional joke and IGN knows the value of nostalgia and the meaning of "REMASTERED"
If your an OG player, this game will not deter you from playing, only the new comers that enjoyed the quality of life changes. My brother has tons of hours into this game and still has his CDs and box set. When he saw the remastered, he was thrilled to have updated graphics as he's use to the mechanics of old. Just like Monster Hunter games, new ones are easier to control but the old have its challenges that shaped their players into veterans.

Being able to move separate units without a general is amazing.. Rome 2 getting stuck in endless chase due to force March... then the AI captures your town
Rome 2 has another system which is working very well which named garrison system and recruiting a general then disbanding him and recruiting another in another place you wants to put in extra units + the garrison allows you to rank your generals up ....comparing at this points is just not right

Yes! It means you can detach a couple of units to allow your others to escape and block paths and bridges without it being a waste
