    It always amazes me when looking at the quality(or lack thereof) of work that skilled trades provide. I saw quite a few short cuts that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing all took when piercing the exterior of the house. I know that the quality isn't necessarily a code issue, but it is sad that people don't seem to take any pride in what they do.

      Definitely. And we are paying so much money for these homes too.

    Great video very informative. I wanted to ask if the fresh air intake you talked about is too close to the soffit vent? Aren’t they supposed to have 3 ft of distance between each other?

    • @texas.edge.inspect
      @texas.edge.inspect  25 дней назад +1

      @@allenhernandez684 there is probably a more ideal location, but since those are both intake vents, it probably isn’t a big deal. You certainly wouldn’t want an intake close to an exhaust vent.

    Nice job. I notice that you and I have a similar issue. We speak or act before we completely confident in our findings. You'll notice at 1:37 the stud left of the ground rod has a V-notch in the middle where it connects to the sill plate. I believe, had you looked closer, you would've found the proper attachment. I'm sure I could be wrong, but I bet they did the same thing on the other side.

      You literally said you could be wrong. When I tell you that you are not seeing what you think you’re seeing, and then YOU, clearly get offended and take to writing a sarcastic thumbs up comment which you didn’t get any action on. Then you decide to send an email to who you thought was me, with some backhanded advice, claiming that I was offended. It’s honestly laughable at this point.

    Dont mind the detractors. People are already paying massive amounts for a home (maybe even the majority of one's income or savings) and getting cheap cardboard homes. They should get something for what they pay for even if that is only the things an inspector can garuntee.
    Your work can affect multiple homeowners. If it costs more to do a crrap job twice than to do it right, homeowners get a better product. Job sight managers may actually enforce an acceptable standard.

    Are you a building inspector, as in a representative of the building department in that jurisdiction? Or are you a private company that does inspections? I ask because I am buying a house in a jurisdiction that does not offer inspected permitted work. They will issue permits, but not inspect nor require an inspection. I am going to be doing a full gut on the property and replacing all the major systems, making foundation repairs, and making some structural changes. The foundation and structural require I hire an engineer either way, and I can pay my engineer $60 to do an onsite consult on top of his regular fees. I guess that most people just do unpermitted work, as this jurisdiction allows it as long as the work doesn't include any site plan changes. I am planning on selling the house, and would like to pass the property along to a new owner with confidence that the work that has been done is safe and meets or exceeds standards.
    I have always been under the impression that commercial home inspectors didn't have the same qualifications as building inspectors. With that impression, it hadn't occurred to me that I could hire a private inspector to oversee all of the work that is done. Which brings me to my question: Are the qualifications that private real estate inspectors are required the same as those of a building inspector? I always assumed that every electrical inspector was a master electrician. I know that most of them that I have dealt with were at least an electrician, but there have been some that it was questionable. However, they did as thorough if not more so than the electrician inspectors did.
    What, do you suggest, that I should look for in certifications or qualifications should I seek the services of a real estate home inspector, if that is even possible or advisable?

      It’s hard to say. I am not a representative of a building department. I am a private third-party inspector. You just have to research inspectors that do that line of work, try to figure out what the scope of their work is, and possibly view some sample reports that they have created. That’s the best advice I can really give you. Results may vary, depending on where you’re at.

      @@lewchishelltaya5745 allow me something to you. First of all, the only anchor bolts found on the house were in the corners by the garage. Everything else was held down by straps. Sure, they can go in after the fact and drill in additional anchor bolts if needed. But if this one was in the place of the stud, they would’ve cut a notch long ago, and there wouldn’t be sawdust as you say you see, sitting in that exact location. However, if they had drilled the hole for an additional bolt, there would be. But that wouldn’t require a notch in the stud, would it?
