I was staying at a small hotel on the hillside just east of the San Diego airport. The planes come in so close to the hillside that I could actually see the faces of the passengers.
Yep. Same thing when I lived in Reston, VA (planes coming into Dulles). You could literally see people in the windows. It was really bad when the Concorde was coming in. The noise would knock stuff off the shelves.
There's a very famous incident with a British Airways 777 flying on that exact approach running into a fuel issue resulting in a loss of thrust in both engines, the pilot very very narrowly avoided theses houses and landed just short of the runway, No deaths thankfully and only 2 injuries.
I remember back when I was working construction over the summer last year. We were adding an extra floor to an apartment block and I was helping out with the plumbing. Every time I was on lunch break for around an hour, I'd get my food, go right to the top of the roof on the scaffold, and just sit there and eat while these massive planes were landing right above my head. The apartments were right next to runway 27R, if I remember correctly. That was the best job ever.
I know this street and I’ve visited to watch aircraft, amazing location. The houses are very attractive and well maintained, built before Heathrow Airport became a major airport. There is no flying at night so residents will have uninterrupted sleep. The take offs and landings are rotated around the airport every few days so that residents are not subject to constant aircraft flying overhead.Great footage.
I stayed once in a hotel in this area at one of these houses and watched the planes arriving at just about the same spot. There is an endless flow of planes landing.

Well, that's something for the residents. However, not enough! These big companies don't give a rats ass about people. It took legislation, I'll bet, to get them to give the consideration now in place!
Parts of my family live quite close to this area in Osterley, when I was a child you could see one airplane coming and another going. Years later it was four planes at the same time and the noise used to be quite bad but these days it is quiet. And yes, the houses are very nice and quite pricey.
My grandparents owned a detached house in Hounslow, and they had a large pear tree in the bottom left of the garden. These aircrafts used to fly directly over it, and as children we used to believe the pilots used that tree as a guide line for the runway. Happy memories, expect its long gone by now. Garden also had an air raid shelter in it. Another story was of a doodlebug heading right towards the back of the house with my grandparents and dad watching from the rear windows, when it cut out and headed directly at them. Then a gust of wind took it, and it landed and exploded in a nearby field. Just as well otherwise my self and 4 other siblings, and approx 25 (Yes lose count as we all scattered across the globe) other offspring wouldn't be alive today.
I lived in San Diego for 42 years and was a plane spotter in my younger days. While the planes fly low over a certain area of the city, they don’t fly 100 ft over any buildings. The closest they fly is to the parking garage previously mentioned, which is about 100 yds from the end of the runway. There is about a 50-75 yard clearance above that structure. There is no denying it’s dangerously close and pilots complain almost constantly. I heard many years ago that airlines purposely hire ex navy carrier pilots for the SD route because of the building clearances and the shorter than usual runway. If you’ve ever landed in SD, they descend quite quickly after clearing that parking garage. It can be a little daunting for people who don’t like flying. But on another note, I really liked having the different airbus models ID’ed. I’m not familiar with airbus too much so it was a treat. Thanks for the great vid.
Some of those buildings have skylights in their roofs. Can you imagine taking a nice relaxing bath, gazing up through your skylight, and all of a sudden there's a British Airways pilot waving back at you! Interesting video -- thanks!
Are those houses actually residential buildings? I can only begin to imagine how loud the noise from those aircrafts must be. So how is it even possible for anyone to live in a place like that?
As a pilot, take offs and landings are the most dangerous times. If it were up to me, I'd make it a law that no housing areas within a mile of airports! Watching these planes on final approach, if something were to happen, even more lives would be lost. It's bad enough when innocent people in the plane die, but to involve those being in their homes............. tragic.

I think this was shot in or near Myrtle Avenue which would make this approach runway 27L. If I am right about the runway it looks like the planes are flying overhead houses on the west end of the road but are actually slightly north of them, flying over fields behind the houses in the video. You can see the runway approaches very clearly in Google Maps.
I think you’re correct. If you look closely, you can see these planes are flying to the right of these houses, although the angle the video is shot at makes it look like directly overhead. But fabulous video! I’d love this for about a day, then want to move lol. Another nice thing about this video? The sun is out in London!!! 😃☀️
I had a boyfriend who lived in Cranford Avenue, Stanwell, and we saw the planes but they didn't go over his house as his street was parallel to the runway.
That's really awesome honestly! I assume you get used to the noise living there but not the constant worry about if a plane misjudges 😳 That would always be in the back of my mind
I was born & bred in Hounslow, about a mile from Heathrow. You’re right, when you live so close & on the Heathrow flight path you really become so accustomed to the noise every 5 minutes or so that you almost don’t notice it. If you’re talking when a plane goes over you automatically raise your voice without realising it! I moved away from London for over 40 years but moved back to a different part of London 11 years ago. What superb footage! The aircraft are almost clipping the roofs. I would love this. I guess the residents might find it intrusive although the mind adapts to noise over time and filters it out. Some fantastic aircraft, especially the biggies - the glorious 747 and A380's gliding in. 👍✈️

Very clever how it’s filmed, the angle gives you the impression the aircraft are flying over the houses , when in fact the glide path is over a large open field quite a large distance behind the houses……
Oh yes? In Cork City Ireland the approach used be over .Blackpool on the northside and you could taste the fuel getting dumped before landing. Real Estate Agent to client: " I've got a really nice place to show you, and the airport is only a ten minute drive away! There's one little drawback though......."
What's that then?

Planes all the time
the peace and quiet they mustve felt during the pandemic!
Must have felt eerily quiet
4:39 best shot in the entire compilation.
@@karenhoward6712 I can confirm that it is in Myrtle Ave, TW14 :)
@@suzannel8926 you single now?
@@Alyzah My Grandparents lived on the other side of the airport in Zealand Ave Harmondsworth. I expect that will be in the airport soon
If I ever go near Heathrow now I really notice how noisy the planes are, something that never bothered me before!
SO TRUE
@@susankeating8678 I was looking for a comment like this Susan as I always wondered if you would ever get used to it. I live next to a railway line but don't notice anymore but that is nothing compared to this, they're on the ground 😆✈
Aaaahhh, the serenity! 😁
There has never been such a wonderful aircraft like 747, There is never such a wonderful aircraft like 747 and There will never be such a wonderful aircraft like 747. That’s why it’s the queen of skies !!
Concorde was special too just too expensive for the majority
I stayed at my daughters flat in London which was on the Heathrow flight path. I was woken up at 5 am with the loudest plane overhead. It was so noisy and made me jump. After that every 3 minutes the planes were coming into land so I didn’t get any more sleep. I could not live anywhere near that airport as the noise was horrendous. I guess the residents must get used to the noise.
What superb footage! The aircraft are almost clipping the roofs. I would love this. I guess the residents might find it intrusive although the mind adapts to noise over time and filters it out. Some fantastic aircraft, especially the biggies - the glorious 747 and A380's gliding in. 👍✈️
I'm sure they would let you buy there house with No hesitation🤣
@@christinedavey7793 People choose to live there, what better place to be if you work in aviation?
@@DoubleMonoLR You're wrong and I've know people who lived close to where this image is taken which of course has been massively compressed by the long lens/magnification. Aircraft were never as close as appears in the video.
You can easily become immune to noise that would drive others mad. If I recall pilots of the A380, with two crews due to distance, reported problems sleeping because of lack of noise. Parents of screaming kids are immune to noise others in the vicinity are driven mad by.
@@byteme9718 I would probably get over the noise if I lived there but my problem would be the planes getting close to my house and trees
Also most planes crash during takeoff and landing so I would be concerned because if just one plane crashes my house would be destroyed or maybe other places in the neighbourhood
This is so breath taking and heart stopping!
I worked in Heathrow Central Area '70 til ''92. There used to be a workers hostel by the 27R threshold (28R as was) at Hatton Cross and another in the 27L undershoot (28L as was) at Hatton Cross. Airport shift workers were expected to get rested in their time off there. A lot of folks don't realise how much noisier the older pure jets were in comparison to modern fans. It could be painful at times.
If I 'get on the cross', the Underground will take me to the Central Area.
I used to not be far from there. Concorde taking off in the morning was just brilliant.
Couple of Tridents and VC-10s coming in alongside DC-8s and so on.. I mention trident specifically as I know them Rolls-Royce Spey engines were skull splitting xD.
Been here many times, Myrtle avenue is a excellent place for Ave geeks to watch both take off and Landing of Aircraft’s
As somebody who is passionate about flying and planes, I would love to live there.
Probably end up with cancer from jet fuel
@@lightwalker9879 how come air port workers don't have cancer
All those high decibel noise. No way
Glad to have spotted the Kenya Airways. The Pride of Africa.
What a lovely compilation! Would love to live there! It's an amazing alarm! Liked!
It always amazes me how those enormous planes stay up there👍👍👍👌✈️🛫🛬
Same
Maybe I would feel differently if I lived there, but I would love to live there and witness this on a regular basis.
That Malaysia air A350 wow gorgeous and nice to see the old A300 liked the filming too
Ain't no way in hell , That's entirely too close to those houses and powerlines 😳
Don't forget the Trees. Trees are people too!!
The thumbnail was clickbait.
The aircraft are no where near the houses and power lines
Great video
Did you notice any drastic differences in volumes between the newer airplances and the older ones. I.e a350 vs B777 or the 787 and A330
Lol..yes
I think the A350 is one of the best planes out there. Beautiful and produces minimal noise. Especially the -1000.
Being London, those houses will still be worth half a million ! 🤣
Plane watcher’s dream home
I could never live in those houses and if I were in a plane and saw us landing that close I’d freak out probably 😩.
Dont forget the sounds. Imagine trying to sleep or study while planes constantly taking off
@@Tomatost8 I'd love that. Best noise ever
@@Tomatost8 I’d live there just for that view and noise
@@Tomatost8 Hát sztem azért meg lehet szokni ezt is. Pl egyszer voltam Budapesten egy egyhetes kiránduláson, és a Ferihegy 13 R pályairány short final-je alatt volt a szállásunk.
Youd need sleeps with earplugs for sure👍
We take my grandson there occasionally to watch the planes. He loves it.
Cant even imagine the noise those houses are getting,,, Im about 40 miles away from my airport,,, and i still feel the vibration when they fly by,,, Great Vid,,, Thanks.
There is no earthly reason why I should be enjoying this but I am, very much, so thankyou
Hahaha, I strangely understand that!
Very cool shot of the British airways Rome to London with the rainbow.
notice how loud is the B777 vs the B787... 87s also seem to glide more smoothly than 77s ... of course it could be wind conditions and pilot's skills but i'd bet its those nice wingtips... hipnotic video, I enjoyed every second of it
Imagine living in one of those houses and never getting sleep lol. Great video as always though.
The Runways at Heathrow alternate for landings on a weekly basis and they switch runways every day at 15:00 hours to reduce the noise footprint
@@ianstewartaviation2634 thanks for the information, mate. 👍🏻
there are no flights at night
It must be a pleasure to live there!
Frequently shaking furniture along with a nice turbine concert and a lovely scent of kerosene in your garden!
My auntie used to live close to Heathrow directly in the landing path and I'd lay in her garden watching planes pass over. You could see the bolts on the under carriage. LOVE the noise
Great video, my friend, but this would drive me crazy
Man! I'm glad I don't live there, the constant noise would drive me crazy! By the way; nice video.
Soundproof doors n windows and you're good. It would be heaven for aviation enthus...tho
@@deadnlovingit I love planes but NO.
The landings you would not hear after a few days. The takeoffs yes.
Seriously the coolest thing to see irl! Overwhelming but gnarly!!!
Amazing that you don’t hear the plane until it’s right on top of you. I do love those quiet ones though.
Very good job
There was a story that when flights were grounded because of the ash from the volcano in Iceland residents near Heathrow complained that they could hear the traffic on the M25. There's no pleasing some people.
For sale is this charming semi-detached family home. Wonderful ever-evolving scenery and exceptional transport links.
The shaking, the noise, the pollution ... Things you can't just get used to !
Yeah man. Pretty sure the fumes will give you cancer in no time
Oddly satisfying to watch 🤩
The planes are zoomed in with a telephoto lens so they appear much closer than normal.
Brilliant video. I love plane watching. Such powerful, graceful things. When I go to London, my face is always turned upward. 😃👍
Very clever how it’s filmed, the angle gives you the impression the aircraft are flying over the houses , when in fact the glide path is over a large open field quite a large distance behind the houses……
Honestly, it would be scary seeing it for the first time
Oh yes? In Cork City Ireland the approach used be over .Blackpool on the northside and you could taste the fuel getting dumped before landing. Cancer suddenly skyrocketed, especially leukemia in children. Couple of schools right there. That was 1990s. I left then so don't know if they expanded the runways and changed approaches or not.
Using a zoom lens possibly 100mm or more that's why the image is compressed.
I respect your hard work and due diligence on your videos. They're recorded in the place at the same angle. Plus, there aren't any narration or drama queen exclamations like on other channels. 👍👍👍👍
Представляю в какой тишине живут люди. А чистота воздуха просто вызывает (восторг).
Are you on crack?
Stunning work sir ❤
I live in a similar situation, and even though it’s loud I sometimes get amazing views of the planes and to be honest at some point you get so used to the sound that you don’t even notice them anymore, sounds unbelievable but is true.
Thats not a pretty thiing to get used to. Do you live rent free?
What about those jet fumes tho….?
@@ImagMillionaire Yes they should! 😅
@@ImagMillionaire haha yeah I do so I don’t really have a choice.
@@Juliet04738 I actually never thought about those but till now nothing happened, and I can gladly say that the planes don’t fly the whole year directly over our house but only in good weather. So the sound is always there the fumes not I guess.
Imaging being up on them roofs putting up shingles! Love them 787's!
Outstanding footage from my favourite location at Heathrow 👍👍👍
I can see a Kenya airline in this video..love you ❤️ Guys from Ghana 🇬🇭 west Africa 🇬🇭🇬🇭❤️❤️❤️
So awesome!! I would love to live in one of those residences -- just so I could 'plane spot' all day -- or night!! Great captures!! 💕✈✈💕
The rainbow shot is the money shot!
It's a shame that I can't watch big passenger jets flying low around buildings without immediately being reminded of Sept. 11th. It's cool and yet so eerily reminiscent of the footage I've seen from that day.
Skyscrapers yes but houses? I never think of that.
Magnifique vidéo 🙏🙏🙏
This reminds me of a hotel my wife and I stayed at That was in line with the runway at the Atlanta airport. Although I didn't get much sleep, I loved staying at the hotel and I'd do it again
I think I stayed at that same hotel. The bed was bolted to the floor to keep it from moving.
Great shots. Most planes these days look boring as, but it's great to see a few beautiful birds such as the A340, A380 and 747.
Absolutely beautifully filming gorgeous capturing appreciate your Amazing work well done Sir Merci

As much as I LOVE watching airplane and anything to do with planes, this has always made me feel nervous & shaky
Amazing video loved it!
If one of the home owners put their house on Air B n B I’d happily pay to stay there for a holiday just so I could sit and watch all the planes go by
You've really outdone yourself this time.... incredible....just incredible clear with amazing engine sounds footage / content....!!!.... Aircraft literally on the tops of houses....wow.... thanks for sharing...!!
4:37 Stunning!
God, but them 380's are huge beasts!!!
Incredible spotting! Another great video. 👍🏻🎥
That noise would drive me insane!
Imagine living there….😮
A nightmare! The noise and the polution are terrible.
@Anna DB yep but for some crazy plane spotter it will be heaven
In the 1960s and 1970s we lived under the flight path into Heathrow Airport. You get used to the noise after a while. When we were chatting to neighbours and a plane flew over we would raise our voices and shout loudly at eachother as if we were having a heated argument even though it was actually friendly small talk!
Nice
As a kid I along with my Dad and my two brothers would go to Dorval airport in Montreal to watch planes land and takeoff on the outdoor observation deck, which today due to security reasons people can't do anymore. It was cool as a kid but I wouldn't want to be living in a flight path.Too much constant noise and possibility of crashes.
Ah, I could watch this all day.
Wow, that first dreamliner looked like it was going really fast!
Public comments. Wonderful landing. I am enjoying watching beautiful planes.
Great clear, steady footage. I wouldn't want to be live within a mile of either side of the strip though, the noise is one thing, but in a period of heavy winds, i would be very worried. On Sundays, they pass over me about a mile or so up from JFK, sounds like they are a lot closer, unnerving sometimes.
The 380 is so beautiful to watch.
