    That's how it should be done. I see too often people drawing 30" ring, shoot pattern from 40' and count pellets from ring although pattern has missed it a bit. Then aiming mistake makes more difference than shell or choke. Shoot to the paper, then draw the ring around pattern and count pellets.
    Keep up good work! 👍

    Boy am I glad I've got a carlsons sporting clays light modified. I'm gonna have to try that one out. Might be a perfect median for this steel load.

    Great video.
    .715 construction would be light modified. Expressed as 3/8 choke in England/Europe if dealing w guns from there. Here, you will it marked on interchangeable chokes as Skeet II.

    • @aman9054
      @aman9054 3 месяца назад

      Traditionally (in Europe) full has been 1 mm tighter than cylinder, IM 0,75 mm, M 0,5 mm and IC 0,25 mm tighter. But steel shots have made difference cos at least some steel shots won't pattern good from full choke. I think that's the reason why Carlson's use close, mid and long coding at Crematros. They are a little bit more open than traditional chokes that are made for lead.

    • @Joshua-yr2fz
      @Joshua-yr2fz 3 месяца назад +2

      Yes, and those fractions on a nominal .729 bore expressed in cm on guns comming out of Europe and the UK now come to about .715 for LM.
      Perazzi and a few others label there interchangeable chokes in numbers. For example, No 4 that no. 4 coordinates to 4mm or .016" - LMod.
      Now, Every Gun Fixed Choke Gun expressed now on fractions including the UK with the CIP standardization.
      1/4 is IC, 3/8 LM, 1/2 M, 1 is F.
      These will be stamped on the barrel flats of fixed choked guns.
      I know only two manufacturers who will build a gun w fixed choke, with warranty, with tighter than 1/2.(M) with CIP Superior Steel Proof proof mark.
      Hull recommends no tighter than 1/4 (IC) when using their High Pheasant Superior Steel load.
      I have shot that load through my Superior Steel proof 1/2 Merkel.
      Interesting, the old Kent Matrix load (tungsten and polymer) on the box recommended no tighter then 1/2 choke when shooting a lot on the number 3.
      I asked Kent about it as the marketing was any choke safe. The answer I got was you could shoot it through Full.
      What I always hated was English guns withproof marks pre 195(8) did not tell you the choke was.
      One barrel flat might be marked choke. That means there is some choke in that barrel flats barrel. One must them go pattern to figure it out. There was no proof mark to tell you how much choke. The other barrel flat might have no mark. This absence of the proof make choke meant cylinder bore.

    Great stuff George! I have been really happy shooting a Carlon's Cremator MR for anything from 15 yards out to about 35ish yards or so. I think its a great choke for hunting timber/smaller holes or if you're going to get some good decoying shots or close passing. The LR is definitely too tight for me inside 25yds, but if we're hunting an open field for something like Canadas, can't go wrong with it!

    Awesome, awesome video George. Really neat to see what we were always "taught" about how choking down steel too much will blow a pattern. Very curious to see why this didnt happen in your previous video. Maybe a repeat with a kent fasteel vs federal speek shok is in order. I believe Boss' patterns are extra tight as I think theyre using the new wad they developed for warchief with it.

    • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  3 месяца назад

      Thanks! BOSS said that this wad was engineered for a modified choke, they also didn't want the patterns to get super tight because they designed it as a 30-yard load. Any tighter than this would be bad at that range for sure.

    I hope that here in England a lot of shooters take notice of this, as we are now entering a lead ban very soon for meat that goes into the food chain only? (we hope) and steel will be the only viable alternative: everything else being twice the price.. As expected some of our manufacturers have started to make game loads MORE EXPENSIVE! Than regular wildfowling loads. This can only have a knock effect: slowly bring shooting beyond the ordinay persons budget. Just watched a video from one of our cartridge suppliers; where he put everthing in perspective about increased pricing. A 150mm shell contains enough powder to load 4,500 cartridges! And there are thousands fired in Ukraine. Thanks once again for videos like this that will help shooter understand the complexities of chokes.

    How was the pattern uniformity of cremators vs. others that performed similarly. That mod had some a fairly wonky pattern that left some good sized voids at 40. Counts are great, but shape and distribution matter and I’ve found the cremators tend to throw pretty uniform circular patterns with steel.

    • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  3 месяца назад +1

      Yea, I tried to note that in the chart at the end. Some had more uniformity than others. And those did well.

    I would love to see you compare Carlsons coyote and trulock predator or even just one of them. The goal is to see how #4 buck does at 75yds and even 100yds. There aren’t any good videos on the subject of longer range predator loads. The videos on the tube either don’t mention what choke or are just someone taking a long shot with a cylinder bore tactical gun. Long range 00 buck in a boar blaster or carlsons would be interesting. The 100yd thumbnail gets the clicks but we’re all let down by the details in their test.

    • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  3 месяца назад

      I never thought of that. It's possible. A bit outside of anything I'd ever hunt with but it makes sense. Tell me a bit more about the loads you'd use.

      @@TheNewHuntersGuide just Winchester super x #4buck. I have started to collect a few rounds in 3 1/2” and 3”. Hornady makes a coyote shell and so does apex. But they are expensive. I’m not convinced the down range energy is the issue it’s more about how to keep it together at distance. And if you keep a fairly symmetrical pattern you only need a 3-4 pellet in a 10” or so cycle to be fatal. Check out a MFK video he’s got a couple they get 5 coyotes in one sit. Pretty exciting. Shot gun for coyotes is pretty popular in the southern heavily wooded areas.of AR,TN,MO,MS,AL,GA,NC,SC,FL. It’s pretty popular but there is very little content about it.

    Is there a reason you didn't provide measurements of the muller tubes?

    • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  3 месяца назад +2

      They don't do constriction numbers. According to Muller, choke geometry relative to each barrell is a bigger indicator of pattern than choke constriction. So they boycot constriction as a measure of pattern density

      Pattern a few chokes and see how each does. Never just watch a video, pick a choke and head into the woods. At best, these videos can save you some time on figuring out a closer starting point for your own testing, but they can't replace it. You chokes could produce different results.
