  • November is all about thighs on Beauty and the Surgeon! Thigh lifts are one of the most transformative procedures in all of plastic surgery, but it's no Thanksgiving picnic. In part one, Dr. Martin and Amy discuss what a thigh lift can and can't do, who is a candidate for the procedure, what to expect from your consultation and pre-op appointment, and much, much more.
    Questions to ask you surgeon:
Are you certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?
Am I a good candidate for this procedure?
What surgical technique is recommended for me?
Where and how will you perform my surgery?
What are the risks and potential complications with a thigh lift?
Will I need liposuction in addition to skin removal?
    How are complications handled?
How long is recovery? Will I need help during recovery?
How can I expect my thighs to look/age over time?
Questions to ask at pre-op appointment:
Where will I be taken after surgery? Overnight stay?
What medication will I be given or prescribed?
Will I have dressings/bandages when I leave the hospital?
    When will they be removed?
When will the drains and stitches be removed?
    When can I shower?
When can I return to normal activities and exercise?

The two of you are really great at this! I’ve lost around 70 lbs and maintained my goal weight for 4 months now. No bariatrics, but I am on a GLP-1 and plan to stay on it for maintenance. I follow a few facebook thighplasty groups and some female patient have reported labia discomfort from the pulling. Will being less aggressive with pulling the inner thigh area decrease the risk of labia pulling?

Thank you for watching! Great question! Incision/scar placement and the internal anchoring of the underlying soft tissue is the best way to eliminate or minimize pulling of the labia. It's very common to have some sensation of pulling in the first few weeks after surgery even without any visible pulling due to inflammation and tightness of the surrounding areas. I would highly recommend discussing your concerns with your surgeon and specifically ask about deep placement.

Hi Tana! Thanks for watching and congratulations on your recent surgery! We have several great episodes about recovery. A few things that we really like (please be sure to clear any/everything with your surgeon) are hyperbaric oxygen therapy, cryotherapy, and acupuncture. All three are great options for decreasing swelling and pain, increasing mobility, and supporting a fast recovery.
