Would love to see dance music come out of the studio, away from computers and return to its roots - funk played by talented musicians like this. No return to wearing white boots though !
3 amazing musicians and one of my favourite clips. I'm so glad I got to see George Duke before he passed away. I just wish I'd had the chance to see Louis too. He is, and will remain one of my favourite bassists of all time. Heaven gained two funky ass people.
Louis Johnson is definitely the FUNK MASTER,THUNDER THUMBS AND LIGHTNIN LICKS,WHAT A COMBINATION,THIS WILL ALWAYS STAND THE TEST OF TIME !!THESE GUYS WILL ALWAYS BE ON MY PLAYLIST !!
I agree entirely. No one can match louis' groove and feel. I never get bored of hearing this track as well as the intro to the starlicks 'Louis Johnson - Slap Bass Tutorial, Volume 1' video!
I still have my stingray bass because of Louis. That bass ain't going nowhere!! Love his solo and Paul's. That was a tight band George had @ that time. It even feature the late Mr. Robert Brookins on keys as well. Great clip!
Gorgalisin, to answer your question the name of this tune is Silly Fightin'. Original version on George Duke's CD "Guardian of the Light". Louis Johnson also played bass on the studio version as well
You're right... I love the Musicman Bass. And also for me Louis is great, one of the best. I played a lot of stuff of him, but it stil sounds different. His touch is fantastic.
I wonder what LOuis would have done had those two strings not broken... Anyway this is a great excerpt from George Duke's DVD Live in 83 in Japan... There are some more wonderful moments on it.
I was amazed watching this... Searched on amazon, but it says: "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer." Does someone have a clue where to get this? (couldn't find it on ebay either) Thanks for this masterpiece! WORLD, CAN YOU HEAR ME? I WANT TO BUY THIS DVD! :)
Holy shit, after Louis Johnson finished his solo, that poor bass needed to go to the ICU for some TLC. He broke both the G AND the D strings - Daaaaammmnnn!
